You Liverpool fans should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves for getting so excited about pre-season games.

Precisely. Pre-season games mean absolutely nothing. *

*unless you win them.

Solid 1-1 draw with Valencia...as you do...

Makings of a decent side, clearly can't draw many conclusions from a friendly but it's a nice shape with Ake flitting between midfield and defence and the full backs getting license to attack as a result.

Valencia better first half, we were better second. Disappointed we didn't score a winner, Afobe missed a sitter from 6 yards. Last 10 mins were lost in a haze of subs though.

Highlight of the night the contingent of Chinese fans over from Beijing decked out in their Bournemouth shirts. A few of which were dragged onto the pitch to do the half time 18 yard cross bar game. I think the rules got lost in translation, as the first bloke went mental when he side footed the ball into the net, but they were good sports. With our own Chinese fans, we must be a proper Premier League club? Surreal.

Yeah, as friendless go, that was fun.

Seems like the most entertaining part of the testimonial.

"Seems like".

As if you expect us to believe you didn't travel all the way over from Maryland to watch it live and in person.

It was a game played a very low tempo, some may suggest it was a fitting tribute to late era Rooney.

I can't see how Rooney fits into this United side now. We've simply got better options than him in every position.

But it was good to see Luke Shaw continue his comeback, he's really impressed me all pre-season. It won't be long before we see him back to his full throttle best, he's such a powerful runner and has the potential to create something special with Martial down the left side with his overlapping runs.

Holgate for Everton impressed me too, Martial took it round him once but other than that he handled himself very well, covered Stones' sloppiness a few times too.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
City beat St Johnstone 3-0 yesterday behind closed doors. Fernandinho, Silva and Delph were the scorers according to Twitter.

Not seen an official account anywhere but apparently Hart, Zabaleta, Kolorov, Adarabioyo, Clichy, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Silva, Sterling, Nolito and Aguero started with a load of the usual subs and kids coming on here and there.

Caballero, Gundogan, Kompany, Otamendi, Sane, De Bruyne & Bony were all missing through injury or not there for some other reason. So again, nothing to read into there really as Kolarov and Zabaletta both seem to be rumoured to be on the way out and you'd certainly expect KDB and Otamendi to be in the squad.

Next up is Arsenal, which is for some unfathomable reason, apparently live on ITV.

Musa destroyed Barca. Shame they were 3-0 up, but he should have got a penalty at 3-2 as well. Decent kick about. Mahrez alongside Vardy didn't work. New lad Kapustka got on the pitch the same day as signing for us. Our attack is going to be rapid this year. Mendy looks likely to play a traditional defensive mid role rather than box to box like Kante did.

I don't like this relatively new thing of Premier League clubs playing each other in pre-season. Don't know why I don't like it, I just don't.

Anyway, I didn't go but our 1-1 with Valencia sounded a very good performance, Gradel in particular turned into a bit of a tormenter of their defence by all accounts; having him fit this season could be huge. Can't read anything into friendlies but this was an encouraging sign.

Mane gets his first goal for Liverpool versus Barcelona, that'll do the boy good.

2-2 draw v French side Lorient.

Deeney and Ighalo with goals.

Didn't start with any of the new signings!

Isaac impressed when he came on.

Finished 4-0. Decent result which will hopefully up the confidence for next weekend weekends game against Arsenal. Won't get anything more than a draw though, we just can't win at The Emirates no matter how bad Arsenal are playing.

Fantastic header by Grujic at the death. Got three goals in three appearances this pre season.

Will Saltire be crediting this one in the form books, much like when he claimed Liverpool held a big win over Dortmund the last time they played (at the time) which was a friendly?

Rounded off pre season with a 1-0 win over Ligue 1 outfit SCO Angers, using basically a bench 11. That concludes an unbeaten pre season.

We're gonna win the league lads.

It was somewhat frustrating to see Mane tear Barcelona apart.

I don't see your point, we beat Dortmund again since then as well remember, whilst you guys got battered from them the other day. ;)

I was hoping that Liverpool would press and harry Barca and see where it went, and was delighted they did that and got a great result. Hope they can do something similar to Arsenal on Sunday.

Good seeing Mane get his first for the club as well and he has looked good this preseason, and Grujic looks one hell of a prospect. It's coming together nicely for the start of the season.

Liverpool going to Mainz tonight as well, I wonder who'll be playing in that game.

The point was you using friendlies as legitimate previous meetings.

We ended pre-season with a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. Shane Long with the goal.

They playing that early after yesterday?
Yep.

9 changes although a lot of the players who played yesterday travelled and some came on.

I don't think we created one decent chance.

City, without a centre back in the side, take a 1-0 lead against Arsenal.

Great cross by Sterling and a tidy finish from Aguero.

Pre season friendlies seem to be taken quite seriously in the Premier League section.

Only by some needy bellends. Finished 3-2 to Arsenal. Not got a clue what City's defence is going to look like on opening day to be honest.
