I'm surprised he had to point out what common sense should have told everyone.

Nothing
Maybe 25+ years ago, there have only been two in the past 20 years, the last was almost 15 years ago (Xavier) and Barmby's move wasn't the most well received, let's say. There'd be an absolute shitstorm if we tried to take one of their players now.

I can't imagine Benitez would be warmly welcomed by many Evertonians, they'll never forgive his connection to us and calling them a small club. It'd be a good move for him and his family would love it though (they still live on the Wirral, Merseyside's their home now).
While I don't disagree, Benitez isn't a current Liverpool employee. Though he's clearly affiliated with Liverpool and always will be, it's not like he's joining a direct rival or one that is truly hated in every sense of the word.

While when it comes to the derby games I'm sure each side wants the smash the other, but I don't sense the real hate between the teams to make a Benitez Everton move impossible.

Well my wish when I started this thread has been granted, but now I'm scared Kenwright, in his last major act, is going to cock this up good style. Please, we have £100M+ to spend. Do NOT appoint a manager who has achieved/won nothing or an ex Everton/Liverpool manager. Get this right Bill or forever be condemned.

Just wondering, what manager do you want to replace Martinez?

Pelligrini or Bielsa are my main choices. For once we need to show some ambition and just go for it.

He's been found out, he should have had this reputation after his spell at Wigan but after winning the FA Cup and the fact it was Wigan it was overlooked. At a club like Everton it was never going to be overlooked and I can't see him getting another job in the EPL unless he brings a team up from the championship.

I reckon Martinez will go to La Liga IMO, as the above says I doubt he'll get another job in the BPL for a while.

But he doesn't have any pedigree there, virtually all of his football career has been here.

Yeah I don't really get the idea he'll go and get a job in Spain. It's not like they dont need to defend in Spain as well.
He needs to appoint a defensive coach wherever he goes who will tell him where he's going wrong.

It's a shame it's ended this way for Martinez because he seems like a genuinally nice bloke, and his first season at Everton was very impressive in fairness. Eventually though his style of play was always going to get found out, as it did at Wigan.

As for his successor Everton seem to have high expectations of who they can attract, not sure if Manuel Pellegrini would be interested and I can't see them luring Ronald Koeman or Billic with Southampton having European football and West Ham looking likely to acheive the same. I'm expecting Frank De Boer, be interesting to see how he gets on Dutch managers have taken well the Premier League recently.

He is, thought that was well known? So is Lallana.
I thought Lallana was a Liverpool fan or was that Delle Alli or Walcott. Never mind that doesn't matter, but the fact is Everton need a manager and Howe is an Everton supporting one that would jump at the chance to move from the bottom of the league to 11th.

So Everton have approached Mourinho. He won't take it but it would be hilarious to see the fallout if he were to sign for them while Van Gaal stayed on at United.

Fair play to Everton for that, they maybe in the gutters but they are looking at the stars, until he says piss off and they fall on to Howe. :D

Why on earth would Mourinho be interested in the job, he's still arguably one of the best managers out there and should be getting a Champions League club minimum.

He's got his heart set on a Europa League club at present.
