We were pants today against a side that we really should be getting something against if we're going to have a good season, and I say that without meaning any disrespect to Rovers. They deserved the 3 points on the whole, but had we played anything like well or what we're capable of we'd have come away with something.

We missed Foley a lot today, he offers us so much energy in the middle of the park. Pereira has talent but the game passed him by and he struggled. I think Amoros would have been the better choice. Away form is a massive concern and has been for a while. Need to get back on track at home to Millwall in the week and I have every confidence that we will, despite the shocker today.

Chill guys, well done on the three points Rovers, we've clearly not performed to our best and got what we've deserved and it's up to us to bounce back.

Foley is better than Lines of course and we missed him badly today but Lines didn't work out and moved back where his roots are (like Pope being far better for us than anywhere else).

Moore has been a complete testicle of Twitter and got slaughtered for it considering the support he had at VP after the issues he had. Classless, unlike Lines tonight.

What has he said? I don't waste a follow on footballers so I always miss the beef when their account is private.

If you had a forehead like Byron Moore I think you'd be pretty angry at the world in fairness.

I take from most of these comments that none of the Vale fans were actually at the game today, because we were by far the better team without being anywhere near our best. We didn't need to go through the gears because we were in control of things in the second period. We should have got another goal or two in all honesty, but it doesn't matter now.

I can completely understand why Vale fans have faith in their team and would fancy a victory against us at their place as they've got used to winning there this season. If the Valiants on this forum don't go to away games, it's inevitable they will feel they should be beating teams away from home too. However, based on today's showing where they offered very little (and their other away results), they're going to be very disappointed every other week this season.

People seem to be underestimating us (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and feel they should be beating 'teams like us', but we are a much, much better team than we are being given credit for. When you consider we were without our top goalscorer today and played our battling midfield players for most of the game rather than our creative midfield players, we're going to give anyone a really good game.

Looking forward to Tuesday night now!

I was there and you're making it sound like you played us off the park, which is a load of nonsense over the 90 minutes. First half was pretty equal. You started better but then we got a grip of the game and at 1-0 felt very comfortable. The goal just before half-time completely changed things and the inevitable onslaught happened somewhat in the 2nd half, in which you ultimately scored the winner.

We've been extremely poor away from home for a while now and always struggle on small pitches like yours. What a truly shocking ground, and I'm not saying that out of any bitterness whatsoever. You do well to put up with that at least once a fortnight.

But you lot are on here ranting about how you were worth a point? You weren't at all. We didn't play you off the park but it was a comfortable win and a relaxed performance without our top scorer. Even before your goal we could have had a few.

I expect big things from you on the reverse fixture now though, and if you're much better I'm sure we'll up the intensity ourselves.

Our ground truly is a shithole, but it's our shithole :2thumb:

You were watching a different game to me. You hardly created chance after chance yourself, though you did hit the post. As stated, you were deserved winners but we were pretty shocking today, yet only lost by one goal. Had we played as well as we generally do at home we'd have come away with something, but our away day woes go back a long way before this afternoon.

You have to laugh as some of these poor Vale fans, thinking they were piss poor and we played to the best of our ability.

Guess what Vale fans, we didn't need to....and that was a newly promoted side without our top goalscorer.

Ifs, buts ...blah blah. Pipe and smoke it comes to mind.

We played terrible, as we generally do away from home in comparison to some of the football we've been playing at Vale Park. Are we supposed to lie and say that we played brilliant but Bristol Rovers were simply outstanding? We were pants, you were average, you won the game.

No Rovers fan has claimed we were outstanding.

We have all said that compared to most performances that was below par for us and had we needed too we could have upped the intensity of the game. We played poor and still controlled it. You played poor and lost. The game was closer to 3-1 than it was 2-2 though, which your fans just don't like to hear??

I look forward to the return trip where you're going to bend us over, but I can't see it happening. I like how everyone underestimates us, it's worked the past two seasons and if fans and teams think the same this season, then we'll have another good season.

I think you'll find that your pitch is hardly bigger than ours.

Perhaps not that much different in dimension, but your ground is certainly a lot tighter and compact than Vale Park and most others. Not using that as an excuse for losing the game. We lost either because we didn't play well at all, or you're this amazing team that just hasn't got going in the league yet and once it does is going to be beating sides by 4 or 5 week in, week out. Can't wait to see it.

A lot of Vale fans will be looking forward to the return fixture too, myself included, make no mistake about that.

I don't think many people were underestimating you, and on our forum most people were predicting a tight and difficult game, which is exactly what it turned out to be.

That's a more sensible summary but some of you proclaiming you would turn us over at Vale Park is ridiculous. Nobody turns us over these days. Think you may get a surprise in the return fixture.

Four yards longer and four wider actually... one of the biggest in England (down to when Vale Park was built to be as "Wembley of the North" in 1950.

We've been outstanding at home this season, thumping the likes of Scunthorpe. You can hardly blame Vale supporters for thinking the game might well be much different in the return fixture really, surely? We didn't play to even 40% of what we've been capable of at Vale Park in regards to today, which for us is very dissapointing. But fair play, it seems you were nowhere near at your best either, and didn't need to be as we were so poor for the majority of the game.

Who knows, silly statement to make from the lad although we will be favourites and have turned over Scunny already this season (lost four in a season and a bit at VP now), sure you'll be a tougher nut to crack than the side walloped on your last visit to us for sure.

We've lost 8 away league games since 7/9/2014(I think). I'm sure that will go up a fair bit this season and it already has once, but we're pretty solid on our travels.

First half was fairly even and 1-1 was about fair. Second half we didn't turn up and Rovers deserved the win.
If Smurf has any plans on us going up this season then something needs doing about the away form, carry on as we are and mid table is the best we can hope for.

Like I said silly statement as when the return comes around we both might be in totally differing forms to now. Currently we would likely win due to how superb we've been at Vale Park but a lot can happen before we meet again.

If not sorted by Xmas (in top six) "plan B" comes into force (which has been revealed as signing a load of experienced English players at this level) making our squad size 968 players!

Good stuff. Our start to the season is looking fairly impressive now.

Its early days bit there's something about this group of players. 9 of starting 11 yesterday were playing in our conference squad. Only Hartley and our on loan keeper weren't.

I thought we started brightly and looked on top until a huge slice of luck gifted Paterson the chance to give Vale the lead. We didn't react particvularly well to that set back initially and Vale saw a lot of the ball for the next 15 minutes without actually doing anything with it.

We started to get back in the ascendency before half time and got the equaliser with a great header from Harrison. On balance all square at HT was a fair reflection.

Second half there was only one team in it and we ran out deserved winners. Should have won by more in all honesty as Vale offered absolutely nothing until they started launching 50 yard balls into our penalty area in the last 5 minutes to their tall substitute striker.

A comfortable win and without our top scorer and best player. Didn't even need to bring our creative midfielders off the bench this time.

I'm sure Vale can play better than that but so can we. It's doing what you need to do to get the 3 points on the day that counts.

I thought we was below average today and still manages the win. With our top goal scorer not in the squad and arguably our best two midfielders being an unused sub

When Rovers are in full stride and actually start playing their best players who for some reason are sitting on the bench, they're going to take the league by storm!

Seriously, can't wait to see it. What a team! The reality is you beat a side by one goal who were well under par yesterday and still very much searching for a solution away from Vale Park.
