I thought it was bathing that wasn't allowed? I had a stint of installing loads of showers for Asian doctors residing at Hospital residencies because they were just throwing buckets over themselves.

Literally no idea mate. What part of Asia were they from? I'm guessing they're observing some form of bathing etiquette. :eye:

I thought it was a Muslim thing. They couldn't have baths so they were filling up buckets of water while in the bath and throwing it over themselves.

Hmm...Not really computing. I'm thinking it'll have something to do with the bath water getting dirty after scrubbing yourself, so unless you shower after you may not be paaq (pure) for prayers and that.

Yeah I boycott Amazon these days.

Think I'm the same. Uncle gave me an Amazon voucher for Christmas though, so I used it to buy E. P. Thompson, Luxembourg, Milne, Gramsci etc.

More people are waking up to their unscrupulous practices and I'm sure I'm not alone in avoiding them.

And for every one of them there are ten new customers using them for the first time after realising the convenience and value they offer. It might explain why Bezos became the third richest man in the world this week.

What do you think of people who boycott the Sun?

They recognise shit journalism.
They don't, because they still buy the Mail, the Mirror, the Guardian etc. All papers are shit really. They boycott it because of immoral reporting of Hillsborough, but do you think it keeps Rupert Murdoch awake at night?

Do you not even feel slightly guilty about putting convenience and value above tax and employment practices though?

I didn't realise you were being serious. Of course he doesn't give a shit, any more than Jeff Bezos does with Amazon and people who don't buy products through them because they disagree with their business practices. I never said boycotting or the principles that lead to such actions are wrong, it's entirely up to the individual.

Is that what I'm actually doing or do you think you're perhaps being a little dramatic? Do you believe the vast majority of companies are not doing all they can to reduce what they pay? Of course, some are worse than others but should we avoid all of them or just the big ones that make the news?

You said (well, implied) it was pointless. Just wondered if you'd say the same to a Liverpudlian who doesn't buy the Sun. Some people probably just don't want to be complicit in evil.

Like you.

What I said (well, implied) is that it's pointless in terms of the effect it has on the business in question. I never said (well, implied) that it's pointless from the perspective of the individual. Happy to clarify.

So do I take it that your esteemed friend SALTIRE won't be on the end of any more withering sarcastic put-downs on account of his principled stand?

It's a gift.

I suspect buying from Amazon is a bit like voting Tory judging by this thread. Something a lot of people do, but not many dare own up to it.

Fair enough, but how many Liverpudlians have a Sky subscription I wonder?

Not so much like, more find amusing. My brother upgrading his Galaxy Note 3 to an iPhone 6s against my advice then calling me up asking where he puts the 64gb memory card he's just bought for it.
