Wrexham at home and Eastleigh away next up for us. 6 points and I believe the last game of the season will just be a playoff warm up, as is the FGR v Dover game. Anything less and that last game could be huge though.

But they're only 16 points behind Cheltenham and I was called pessimistic for saying they would get nowhere near winning the league.

As poor as we were today, Jennings and Hudson will be back on Tuesday, we'll play much better and probably win. Then we know that victory next Saturday puts us above Tranmere . We're still well in this playoff race. We need to count on Eastleigh dropping some points in a couple of games, but that was the case before today. Shit, they may well drop some on Tuesday against Barrow.

Nothing much has changed really.

It has already been established that Dover cannot be stopped by any means, so it's all irrelevant. I think they will end up winning the title somehow, such is their indefatigable refusal to sod off.

We're making bloody hard work of this. Despite 3rd looking guaranteed a while back, if we fail to win our game in hand one Dover, I feel we can probably expect to finish 4th. Still fairly confident that we'll actually stay in the playoffs, mind.

It's a fair point Master D. Sorry Grimsby, but the Dover express cross channel ferry is unstoppable. We're probably best off not getting in the playoffs at all so Mills can briefly pause to run some Sexy Hair Gel through his hair and then start planning next season's title victory ASAP.

It seems to be abit predicable being a Grimsby Town supporter. This was the year there fans truly believed they were going to be heading back to the football league!

As a Tranmere Rovers fan I would take Forest Green in the play offs they really are nothing special and I would rather take Grimsby over Dover.

Come on you Rovers let's bounce back straight away!

I genuinely don't think Tranmere will be in the play offs. Seen all three teams battling for the 5th position this year, and Eastleigh are definately the strongest of the three

We now have 2 threads for Grimsby both started by other fans and both could have just been put into the play off thread

Right, decided to merge the 2 Grimsby threads into the main play off thread, because I agree that they are topics that could be talked about in here.

A note to all, please don't start un-neccessary new threads about any of the play off teams. That stuff can be put in here. Thanks.

Thing is pal, we play Wrexham at home, Eastleigh away and finish with Grimsby at home! It's in our hands which it wasn't last week! We're unbeaten for 6 months away from home! 5 points will be enough! Our goal difference is better than Eastleigh. Braintrees run in is very very difficult.

I think the current four sides will stay as they are, with just the final positioning to sort. Eastleigh aren't good enough to be top 5, Braintree have injuries and Wrexham - who I said would make the play-offs a month or so ago - are adrift. They have to beat Tranmere this week to stand any chance. It's a very good effort from Dover and Tranmere to finish in the play-offs. 'Part-timers' and a just relegated side. I actually think Dover might win the play-offs.

We haven't beaten a team in the top 8 at home all season (although we're unbeaten away against them). In other words, if we beat Wrexham, I'll believe we'll make the play offs!

With the way we've been playing against the better sides in the league I genuinely think we have a chance of going up. We're prone to a bottle-job though. Hopefully we win 1-0 at Wembley with a Deverdics penalty from a Modeste dive

Read that Wrexham haven't won away against a top 8 side in the league, though they did beat us at PP in the FA Trophy. So it looks like a draw and Beastleigh or Braintree sneaking the final play-off spot.

Some irrelevant stats mean that we will only draw and therefore miss out on the playoffs?

Even if we draw we can still make them. Beat Eastleigh and four of five points will be enough given Braintree's run in. Probably a good thing the most important game is away.

Yeah but you won't beat Eastleigh away so your point is also irrelevant.

Although we have a hard last few games on paper and yes we have injuries but taking a look at this table I'd much rather us playing top teams than teams near the foot of the table as we seem to be shite against those

Apologies, haven't worked out how to embed images yet on this phone...
Fair enough.

Our away form against the top third is superb and Wrexham is a derby game so anything can happen.

There's a bit too much chicken counting regarding Rovers play-off prospects for my liking.

On this season's form, we'll draw with Wrexham, beat Eastleigh and lose to Grimsby. 4 points, barring miracles, won't get us 5th place, so we have got to tear up the form book and do better.

its totally out of our hands now. even if we beat tranmere and Braintree (unlikely at the moment) then we still have to rely on the teams above dropping points (again unlikely)

holding on to the thin thread of hope though, unlike others on Red Passion who i think are all going to commit Hari Kari at any given time

Eastleigh vs Tranmere in 10 days time is a crucial one. Whoever wins will be in the play-offs come the end of the season IMO.

We could and should have made it safe last night. Hopefully can get something from Grimsby, although a draw puts massive pressure on for the Kidderminster game. Don't want to go into the last game vs Forest Green without having secured a play off spot

as is standard of Wrexham FC though, they give us that tiny glimmers of hope that all fans latch onto like a limpet :)

Vanni said this in the now locked matchday thread.
" I'm reading all these will Grimsby make the play offs posts and I'm chuckling to myself. Ever since they realised there was no stopping Cheltenham, they've taken things nice and easy, in readiness for the play offs, and it would take a brave man to bet against them. Going up and you can all bookmark this."

I find it very hard to believe this. Winning is a habit you can easily get out of and psychologically with two games against potential play-off opponents in Eastleigh and Braintree, it would have been better to make a mark by coming out on top of them.

I'm not saying the Mariners won't go up, but if they do it will be by digging themselves out of the current rut, rather than some tactcal master-stroke of saving themselves for the play-offs.
