So, Marcus Bignot is the latest person to become odds on favourite to take our vacant managerial position.

Not sure if Gods Gift has heard any whispers as he often seems too. Wouldn't really be that upset if he was appointed. A good young up and coming manager and has done a great job at Solihull.

Candidates being interviews this week with an announcement exepected towards the end of the week.

I think you've had more odds on favourites for the job than NFU have had goals this season!

Find it quite amusing that on the Fishy a few Grimsby fans seemed to reckon the Cowleys would have been a very good acquisition for them (as they would be for most clubs). However, a lot said they needed an experienced league manager and it would be a big backward step getting a NL or below manager in. Then when it seemed highly unlikely that the Cowleys were in the frame, most were so glad to escape such lesser candidates for BP. Now it seems Bignot is in the frame, and lots reckon he would be a good candidate to take over from Hurst. You just can't make it up!

FWIW, I think Bignot would be a good shout and worth the risk, he has done a very good job at Solihull.

I no longer work at the GT unfortunately, so my days of leaking the latest news from Blundell Park is over I'm afraid. From what I gather though, the Sports team there are in the know as much as the fans on this one.

Bignot would do well and he'd get the team playing in a way that gets the best out of Omar Bogle - who you got from Solihull.....

Bignot would be a fantastic appointment. And if I read rightly a few months ago he's not under any contract at Solihull so he'd be cheap

Take anything you read on the Fishy with a pinch of salt. I'd have been happy with the Cowleys and I'd still be happy with Bignot. I'd be similarly happy with a higher profile manager such as Evans but that's pie in the sky.

Appointing someone like Wilcox or Robins is a massive backward step and I'd be deeply upset if they came here.

You could do a lot worse. He certainly has Solihull, for all thier limited resources, playing some decent football

Mark Robins? He'd be a cracking appointment, surely?

Always been very impressed by Bignot. He speaks well, seems a nice bloke too plus he has done a very good job with Solihull so far this season.

Mistake number one was reading the fishy, Moston there change their opinions on anything to do with football every hour.

Seems its now official that we have made an approach to Solihull to speak to Marcus, and he will be interviewed this week.

For what it's worth I would rather appoint someone like Bignot or the Cowleys than people like Wilcox, obviously would prefer Adkins but never going to happen so look down for someone up and coming rather than failures at lge 2

Would be gutted if we are to lose Bignot. He's completely turned the club around since he arrived as our attendances have improved by about 400%. Grimsby is a fantastic opportunity for Marcus and it would be stupid for him to turn the job down, I'm sure he would relish the chance to work with Omar again (which is what he said would like when Bogle signed for Grimsby), a team with potential success and a big fanbase. Our chances of survival will be severely dented by Bignot's departure...

Marcus Bignot seems to be one of those guys in football that nobody has a bad word to say against - and that tells you something about his character.

Was very well respected in his time with R&DFC, while he was already cutting his teeth in coaching/management with Birmingham Ladies IIRC. He seems like a solid hard working manager making his way up. As far as I can see he's done an outstanding job at Solihull.

What he gives that the Cowley's don't seem to is league experience - from the playing side. I don't know the Cowley's history too much, but they don't appear to have every previously been full time in football before now. Although Bignot hasn't managed a full time side before, I expect it will be a smaller step up as he will have a better understanding of the modern lower football league player's mindset.

I think Conference South was the highest the Cowleys played (DC retired early due to injury).

DC came through at Wimbledon but I'm not sure whether he made any appearances for them or whether he was released at 17/18.

Looking like it's going to be Bignot who is now 1/8 for the job.

CLUB STATEMENT: MARCUS BIGNOT
*Solihull Moors issue update on manager Marcus Bignot*

Solihull Moors has granted permission to Grimsby Town to speak to Marcus Bignot about their vacant managerial position.

The Board wishes to place on record that whilst it would not wish to stand in the way of an individual's ambition, it is eager to retain the services of Bignot to continue the progression he has made at the club in his five-year tenure.

It is hoped that the talks will reach a swift resolution to ensure minimum disruption for all parties and the club will endeavour to update supporters in due course.

There will be no further comment until this matter is resolved

It would be quite a brave move from Grimsby to go for Bignot, who looks a talented manager. Where will this leave the Moors, if he does move on?

Bignot's done nothing more compared to Aspin or Wilkin for example...

It's a complete poisoned chalice at Grimsby.

I think Bignot would be a great shout for Grimsby, always came across as a leaser on the pitch and has worked wonders at Solihull. Besides afer a long line of failed league one/two managers and a few past their best at Rovers ultimately leading to are fall into non league, then seeing what DC did for us I think most league 2 teams would be better off looking down for fresh blood than the graveyard of unemployed failed managers.

How is it a poisoned chalice when we have just lost one of the longest serving managers in English football by moving up rather than being sacked? Most other clubs sack managers every season.

Expectations are now lower than they were in the conference too, so the fans have calmed down, its amazing the board stuck with Hurst so long, but credit to them for doing that.

Sure if he send the club backwards then he won't last long but that's the same at any club.

Yep, uncharacteristically nonsensical post from the usually bang on Shayman.

I'm pleased if it is Bignot, would rather him than most of the realistic names (with league experience) that have been bandied about. Westley could be good, but I don't remember his teams ever being particularly entertaining? Agree with Jacob too, not sure what the Robins hate is all about. Seemingly out of his depth in the Championship but did well at Coventry. Maybe the fact that Alexander is doing so well at Scunny is making his time at Scunny look worse than it was.
