How was he last year?
He works hard and wins balls in the air and chases lost causes. Don't expect more than ten goals in a season though. Not the sort of player to win you promotion from here, more of a "can do a job" type player for a midtable side. Would probably score more in the Conference.

Featured in every one of our 52 matchday squads last season and and got on the pitch in 51 of those, so he had an injury free year last season.

Im quite happy about this one but I think Billy Clifford may struggle for game time if (big if) our other attacking midfielders play to their potential. Roberts is a shoe in for the left, Enzio for the right so that means Clifford and Banton competing for one place. I just feel Banton has more about him.

I recall that Banton has had some 'issues' at previous clubs so there may be more chances later on in the season.

Casey

If you have the Banton from our second season of battling relegation, you'll have a great player. He basically single handedly kept us up. However hes done absolutely nothing since. Career is really going down the drain which is a shame cause he had so much talent! I think this will be his last chance in the football league, if he fails with you he'll have to drop into the non league.

We had Charles Dunne on trial Tuesday night. He had a decent game so I'd assume we are going to have another look at him.

We also had some big lad up top. Think Kyle Perry. X him with Ollie Palmer and you've get this lad who played for us. He won't be getting another chance!

People like him because he "tries hard". He isn't very good.

The lad has a Champions League attitude in a Ryman Premier body. You couldn't ask for more commitment on (and from what I hear, off) the pitch, but he should really be applying said dedication to becoming the very best four-legged child conveyance on Blackpool beach instead.

Dunne will get sent off within the first few games of the season he just can't help it.

Crawley are a last chance saloon. If you are deemed to have failed here you do not get another shot at League football. From last season...
Gavin Tomlin, turning out for Dulwich Hamlet.
Lee Barnard, Braintree.
Roarie Deacon, Sutton United
Sonny Bradley, Plymouth Argyle....(my smiley/winking face doesn't seem to have been added)

Banton has looked good in pre season. He has definitely put a shift in but I'm aware he has had issues hence I said Clifford may get more playing time later in the season.

He played the back end of the season at Crawley and did not look out of place in a defence that was shipping goals constantly.

Honestly did not look bad but no one is up in arms that we didn't try to retain him.

Charles Dunne must have been rated at some point to have commanded a £250k fee at one time - though that might hint more at a basketcase club and an over-rated, underachieving managers poor judgement?

One thing I will say is that this time last season we signed a left back, in Benning, and was told what a hopeless case he was by York City fans - I'm not sure that there were many better full backs in the entire division last season.

Grimsby signing a striker who played in the Conference last year on a season-long later today/tomorrow morning.

John Akinde (Pen) signs a new 3 year deal with us

I think (maybe) I might be able to think positively about this :2thumb::2thumb::2thumb:
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed to see this as I have hoped that maybe we would try and tempt him away from Barnet with our owner splashing money and with Jay Simpson being touted by Charlton, he'd have been one of two players I'd have wanted as a replacement.

Great bit of business by Barnet though, don't think he'll go above League One, but the last few seasons he has developed into an excellent lower leagues striker.

I just love the bloke. Met him a few times and he's really friendly, he's always got loads of time for the fans and is really funny to watch. I don't know what it is (I mean yeah he's a big bloke, but surely defenders have come across bigger than him) but he really puts the shitters up defenders. They just crumble under pressure from him - he made Scott Dann look like a fool last pre-season - and it's such a suitable weapon for Martin Allen's physical football. He's got a ridiculous turn of pace on him too for a big guy which forces mistakes too.

Don't get me wrong, he's not Maradona (I won't be trying to marry the bloke like Luton fans are over Marriott, for example) and I've seen him shackled by some defenders (that massive bloke Hartlepool had on loan... Jones? kept him quiet easily) but to tie him down for 3 seasons is fantastic. Our chairman gets a lot of undue slack from our fans but this is easily our best bit of business since we were promoted.

We might finish 23rd rather than dead last now!

Apparently Vadiane Oliver is signing for a league 2 team tomorrow,I'd personally drive him to the club free of charge to get rid of him, hope it's not Grimsby cause that would be a quick return to hell,

Vadaine is capable of the odd performance but let's face it wherever he goes a relegation battle ensues.

On the rumours thread GodsGift says we are signing someone tomorrow who played in the National League last year so that would rule him out unless he went out on loan somewhere last season?

Seems as if trialist Isaac Vassell will be signing a 2-year contract with Luton today.

Crawley announce the squad numbers for the season. Why in transfer rumours? Two numbers are missing from the list including number five.

I'm starting a rumour that we are getting an experienced centre back and another striker or midfielder in before our business is complete.

We need them!

Anyone got a list of high profile league one and two players still without a club? Only two weeks to go and I'm surprised a few more aren't fixed up.

That's an interesting one! I can't imagine he'd be anywhere near your first team??

He won't be first choice, but he'll have a very good shout of being on the bench every week as we have a smaller squad this season and CMS is out injured until October at least.

It'll be interesting to see how he does, Plymouth fans obviously don't rate him but then Shrewsbury fans didn't rate Andre Gray either! Vassell has had a couple of years away now and a lot can change for a player in that time. Plenty of scouts had him watched last year by all accounts so he obviously has something about him.

Low risk signing for us if true anyway, surely won't command a big wage and won't be expecting to get in the first team ahead of Hylton and Marriott just yet.
