Thing is he’s encouraged by you lot, and the ‘it’s just how he is’ attitude, the club need to tell him to stop.

The club have tried with him frequently I believe. Just incredibly stupid to keep putting himself in these situations. Will likely get another ban and can’t say it won’t be deserved for stupidity more than anything.

Yeah I think so.

What a idiot Waterfall is too, I know weirdly that sending off helped you but what a ridiculous challenge so early on, dock some wages for that.
Holloway said afterwards that he was egging him on to go for the challenge, so he'll probably get a bonus for doing as he's told! Don't think it was anything malicious, just far too late. It was dangerous regardless and absolutely a red. Robson made an even harder tackle in the lead up to our goal, could've been just as bad but thankfully he won the ball brilliantly.

I wouldn’t say he’s overly encouraged, some fans since the ban have really been annoyed by it, old team mates seem to comment enjoying it though.

The Stones comment (which is probably something most lower league players have said about England players in the past at some point) only came out because of the draw which he could never predict and it’s made him a minor celebrity of late... and his goal obviously fuelled that and his cheeky dig last night again over Stones.

That kind of thing is banter and not issue with that, he backed it up and Man City players were waiting for him to have selfies! So the majority of it is harmless fun.

The one he got banned for wasn’t... it was something fans maybe throw out there but that’s where he needed to be sensible after some abuse and not react... the one last night was clearly not meant to come across as anti semitic and has you’d have to be very dim to see it as that but whilst he has certainly Man City fans (bitter lot they are considering their success) on strings on there he’s always open to that lately.

What was the offending tweet out of interest?

He was asked after his goal by someone “how does WWIII end and said something like “we will invade Iran, North Korea and Cuba and the Rothchilds are crowned Champions of every bank on the planet”

Something about saying he’d score 40 goals a season playing against stones - and he scored yesterday.

Whereas posting stuff like that probably isn’t smart it’s hardly offensive he’s hardly said something ridiculous like “down the pakis” or something homophobic.

I don’t really understand how that’s offensive but that’s mainly as I don’t understand what the Rothchilds bit means.

He's referring to the conspiracy theory that the Rothschild family run the world. That conspiracy theory has been used throughout history as a smear on Jewish people, that's why it's been seen as anti semetic

Whereas they do apparently have their links to most of the worlds banks (apart from the dictator states) which is what Pope was referring too.

I am sure the Rothschild family will be upset about being mentioned by the Port Vale centre forward , tacitly acknowledging a conspiracy theory. What a very strange world we live in.

I can assure you that mansfield have surprised the Mansfield fans this season more than you can possibly imagine.

This season is basically like someone thinking they’ve got the squad to win the lottery but turns out you’ve won a tenner

He came on against us and we didn’t even notice he was on the pitch, did absolutely nothing.

Of course Pope is hardly likely to have meant it in that way at all but this bollocks shouldn't be repeated as it is an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory (Jews control the banks and thus the world!!) and needs to die a death with the rest of that late Victorian racist rubbish. Expect he'll have picked it up because it still does the rounds of assorted alt-right knob ends, freemen on the land loons and people who don't think on.

well you were calling him a paedo all game
Haha I was convinced he’d come on and score with the abuse he was getting while he was warming up, but then I genuinely never noticed him on the pitch and can’t remember him having a shot all game.

Pope got briefly discussed on the Totally Football show this morning and this was mentioned. They also said that he had some pretty nasty previous in his locker. Something about saying that disabled people shouldn't go and watch football? Seemed unlikely that any footballer would say that, that can't be true surely?

Sadly it seems that he has really shot himself in the foot after his positive press on Saturday.

Any sane person would take it the way it was meant- as a joke.
Anyhow I have heard that Popey is now going into politics and is going to do a collaboration with Robbie on " I`m loving Engels instead". By the way for those humourless sensitive knobs out there that isn`t true either.

I am not aware of him ever stating anything against disabled people and the tweet he got banned for was not a tweet regarding the disabled. I don't think he means anything nastily, if a fan gives him stick on twitter he will give a bit back but needs to learn the line between fan/pro and not sail so close to the edge.

I think in all honesty he should probably just come off of Twitter completely as I don't think he can control himself. He should really do his talking on the pitch.

He did on Saturday to back up the Stones one to be fair :)

But yes, I think its backfired with the one about the Rothschild family so if he is going to be a twitter celeb he needs to vastly control how close he sails.

This is the tweet that the people on the podcast will be referring too

He didn't actually get banned for this though, he got banned for being transphobic. The man is a bigot but is somehow constantly encouraged by Port Vale fans.

Have you the quote as to what he was replying to?

He didn't get banned for a transphobic tweet...

Had a gander and he was discussing "Jazz Hands" in which Bottega has posted a reply... so he hasn't said "Disabled people should go to the football" in any stretch of the imagination.

Leon Legge openly took the piss about the Jazz Hands suggestion and he has a disability!
