I'm not really sure why either. Red has regularly been a feature on the black and white shirts and throughout the 70's and 80's we always wore red socks. The red socks have only come back in the last few seasons though.
We had them in 05/06, I think? Then there wasn't there a couple of seasons off and they were brought back by popular demand? I think the only home kits in my life that didn't have even the slightest bits of red on them were those ones at the start of the millennium that had a yellowy ambery touch to them, sponsored by Dixons. Those ones along with the half and half one from around 2007ish were my least favourite ones. The yellow ones were weird and looked more like a Hull shirt than a Town one.

I said we've been fucking shite in recent games, not all season, you breast.

We've been completely outplayed by the bottom 2 teams in the last 2 games. If that doesn't class as "being shite recently" I don't know what does.

What did you call me? A breast?

Whatever HG, Im just happy to see you being so critical of us so soon again!

Yeah, pretty sure you's had red socks the year we won the league. That game at our gaff was one of my faves from that season, you's had that gypo up front, Reddy was it? We only won 1-0 but it was a decent game, sure you's were right up there in the mix aswell as that point. There was 11,000 in the ground that day with 600 or so from Grimsby.

Yeah we were in the top 3 all season until the penultimate game when we conceded an injury time equaliser at Macclesfield which meant final game we had to better Orient's result at Oxford to go up.
Going into injury time we were leading Northampton 1 - 0 and Orient were being held 2 - 2 by Oxford...............
What happened next has thankfully been erased from my memory as it is not nice to see a grown man cry. :(

Turned down 300k from Bristol City in January and then he started getting lots of niggly injuries, including being taken off early in the playoff final. Then he was crocked for good. Ended up briefly winding down in the Irish leagues after us before retiring at about 28/29 if I recall correctly. Shame, because he was fantastic at times with Gary Jones that season. A quintessential big man/fast man League 2 partnership.

I remember that game you're talking about as well. Both teams were flying at the time, but you guys were just too good. Who did you have up front, Bridges and Hawley was it? Absolute quality partnership at that time in this division.

We need to stick with red socks - opponents sub consciously think we are playing with blood on our legs and therefore are feckin hard...

We didn't have red socks in the McMenemy championship season though but we did in the double promotion including 3rd division championship at the end of the 70s. We should always wear red socks...

Yes they were the two, Michael Bridges was a class act and we were so lucky to get him fit and playing again after the injury troubles he'd had through his career. I'd say he is my favourite player we've ever had and that season was our best in recent years in too, such a buzz about the club!

Sadly however it was short lived and things began to get dull and depressing a couple years later and soon after we found ourselves back down here again. :(

I guess things were even worse for you though?

That we can agree on!

To have him when we did (27 or 28 I think he was!) at this level was incredible and he was the difference between us being potential playoff contenders and romping home with the title.

When he left for Hull City that was the most gutted I've ever been about a player leaving.

It would be nice if tonight we can last 5 or 10 minutes without buckling.

Last 3 games (I don't count the irrelevant trophy match) we've conceded in the 3rd minute at St Albans, the 2nd minute at Newport and the 1st minute against Exeter on Saturday.

Can't be giving teams headstarts in games if we want to turnaround our current run of poor performances.

new look starting line up, I'm hoping that going back to five in midfield gets us closer to where we were early in the season, playing attractive football and solid and tough to break down. Hopefully with the goals this time too. We did this well early on and looked like we were in for a decent season but didn't score enough and drew too much. This gungho stuff we've been playing recently has been exciting and has won us games but seems less sustainable.

We've only made 1 change but it's a welcome change; we should be more of a threat tonight.

I don't know what we are going to do going forward. The number of goals we're conceding is a huge concern

Whether we need to switch to a back 5 to try and stop the rot, I don't know.

Considering our shite form of late, a point is decent. Whether or not we deserved it, I'm sure the Grimsby fans will enlighten us.

But we seriously need to stop the flow of goals we're conceding at the moment. Too many for a team supposedly wanting to stay in the top 3.

Yeah that was a sad time to be a Carlisle fan. Not just the fact that he was such a good player but he is a top bloke too and was obviously going to be missed.

I think it's a good point we've managed to get tonight against a fairly good team, I'm disappointed obviously that we got pegged back twice but it sounded like we scored two lucky goals so I can't complain too much. It looks like we could just be going through a sticky patch right now, Plymouth have lost two in a row so at least they are going through something similar.

Didn't get to listen tonight but seems to have been an even game though we appear to have gifted them the goals especially the first which is disappointing.

However we have just played 1st and 2nd and gained 4 points so can't complain too much.

Happy enough with that...

The amount of goals were conceding is a concern but at least we're still picking points up as we go. Every team will go through a rough patch at some point, may aswell have it now. :dk:

That's 3 games in a row now where we have conceded 2 goals in each.

Cannot complain with a point away at a decent team like Grimsby, particularly after they've very recently destroyed the league leaders. Closing the gap on Plymouth too, with a winnable game against Mansfield to come.

First half I thought Carlisle were the best team we've faced this season, very organised and played good football. We defended well throughout but gave away a very daft goal. Second half we were quality and played equally good stuff. Another daft goal and I thought that would knock the wind out of us but we kept going. I was struggling to get the system we were playing with Berrett behind Bogle but in the second half it really showed its strengths. Our forward play was mostly great.

Draw was fair and 4 points against the top 2 is a nice return. As we keep saying, we're a work in progress but we've shown what we're capable of recently. Still the occasional massive gaps at the back and we need a couple of upgrades to players but I'm starting to think we could be dark horses for the playoffs. I also think Carlisle will win the league. Long way to go though.

Delighted with 4 points taken off the top 2, delighted even more when I see cheating c*** Harry Pell sent off for simulation for Cheltenham, what goes around comes around Harry! :brill:

Enjoyed that tonight. Thought it was an excellent game against a very good Carlisle side.

Although I thought they were the best team I've seen at BP this season, we gifted them both goals. Our penalty was about the clearest penalty you'll see this season and an easy decision for the ref but Carlisle will claim we had a massive stroke of luck with our equaliser when Summerfield horribly screwed his shot in front of goal but it turned out to be a great pass which led to the ball being put into the area, which was then forced home at the 2nd attempt.

I'd have definitely taken 4 points from the last 2 games so more than happy. Ref had a fairly decent game too I thought.

We were good? It sounded on the radio like we were lacklustre.

Oh well you lot were there and I wasn't, but more importantly thanks for being so complimentary towards our team. :)

Sounds like we weren't as bad as recently based on those Grimsby fan reports. Possibly the formation change helped us play a bit better.

I quite like this Grimsby lot, they're not like them horrible Hartlepool fans you get on here!

How did you manage to lose 2 of your best players to Hartlepool? I'd be livid if that happened to us and I'd find it embarassing.

I'm sure every team in the country would love to call 8 wins from 10 games shite form
