Should be a good game on Tuesday night, 6th against 2nd and both sides in solid form.

Grimsby will be confident after seeing off leaders Plymouth 3-0 at the weekend, whilst our late comeback should give the players a boost. The stats suggest Grimsby are better away from home but will fancy their chances no doubt.

I feel like we'll make a couple changes for this one, possibly change back to 3-5-2 and dominate the midfield.

I'd be content with a draw, delighted with all three. Doncaster don't play so we'll remain second regardless of the result. 2-2 draw.

I'm certain we'll score. Like you say though, we're pretty bad at home so I'd be very happy with a draw. 2-1 Carlisle.

Not sure, it's better than the usual shite puns that we get.

I'd take a draw, to be honest. Bit of a shit place to go on a Tuesday night...

Is the beautiful town of Grimsby really as much of a shithole as it is made out to be Alan? The name of the town could be deceiving.

True but the name of your town could be better couldn't it! I mean who named it that?

Vikings. Grimsby was settled by Danes sometime in the 9th century AD. According to legend, the name Grimsby derives from the name Grim, a Danish fisherman, the suffix -by being the Old Norse word for village.

The ground's in Cleethorpes though, a delightful seaside resort. :bg:

Does the actual word grim then come from someone who visited Grimsby and thought of using part of your towns name as a word to describe something dull and miserable?

The Danish fisherman who the Town is named after was called Grim. He was apparently one of the first people to settle here, so the name actually means Grim's Village.

I like to think he looked a bit like this.

Isn't This is England set in GY? Although I've a feeling it was shot somewhere else. Grimsby obviously not grim enough for them.

This is a nailed on defeat I'm afraid. Anyone who thinks otherwise either hasn't been watching us recently or is burying their head in the sand. We were absolutely shite at Newport, absolutely shite against Exeter and were pretty poor in the cup a couple of weeks back. Grimsby are obviously playing well under their new manager.

Alarm bells are ringing, the formation/tactics aren't working, we're conceding a lot of goals and Curle seems reluctant to change things from the start. It all points to an easy home win.

I was going to go to this but I've decided against it as a defeat on a freezing cold Tuesday night at Grimsby isn't appealing in the slightest.

3-0 to Grimsby.

When did Grimsby start becoming GY? is this something from the conference days after we'd gone up?

We covered this on another thread before. I often refer to us as Gy, people here always have done. I think it goes back to the days of the trawlers when GY was the prefix of trawlers from here.

As for This Is England, it wasn't set in Grimsby but it did start Tommy Turgoose the young actor who was from here.

Wheeling out some of your greatest hits I see. While a return to HG circa 2013 is always good for nostalgia I prefer the new stuff if I'm honest.

I'm sure we'll give them a game, your certainly of how badly we're going to get humped just because we've put in some poor performances in the last couple of league games is unfounded.

It's a prediction Shoddy, just like the many predictions from other matches and posters on this forum, some of them long before me, some of them long after me.

It's not a certainty otherwise I'd be mega rich by 10pm tomorrow night. Just a prediction.

What's wrong with the thread title?
Nothing, better than the stupid puns the other shit threads have

As for GY, as Les says people from GY often say GY, never used on this forum till this season though I don't think.

Our home form isn't as good as the away form, but new manager and all that, hopefully a good display is put in for Mr Grim the Danish fisherman.

Where are we in the league by the way? I have not checked, it must be somewhere in the bottom half.

Thanks for the thread title support guys

Whilst I agree with HG about our recent performances, we've won 9 out of the last 10 in all competitions for a reason.

We should ask to play all our games away I reckon.

Last 5 away league games - Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 0 For 5 Against 0

Last 5 home league games - Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 3 For 3 Against 8

I said we've been fucking shite in recent games, not all season, you breast.

We've been completely outplayed by the bottom 2 teams in the last 2 games. If that doesn't class as "being shite recently" I don't know what does.

Some of the final scenes are set on Gy Docks including the Ice Factory won't say any more...Spoiler Alert...for anyone who hasn't watched it. I think Tommy Turgoose's (ST Holder in the Pontoon) scene with the cover of Please Please Let Me Get Want I Want may be Cleethorpes beach - I played that version alot before the final in May...expect Tommy did too.

Since we're on Grimsby and it's history (number one topic on this forum ever since May) perhaps you could all enlighten me as to why you play in black and white stripes but have a red stadium. I presumed you used to have a red strip and only recently changed but looked on historical kits so it's not that. I see you've had red socks in the past, is it that?

Every time I see highlights from there I always for some reason expect the seats to be black or white, or both and feel it odd that they're red.

We have a handful of white seats we bought off Darlington, perhaps it's like that.

No idea about the red seats. We have one black and white stand (the Pontoon) but I'm guessing that red seats were the most readily available when seats were installed and I couldn't see us paying for more expensive seats when we don't have to!

Would love black and white throughout the ground but it really is pointless until we get a new stadium.

Heh, that amuses me. I'd always assumed there was some kind of important reason for it.

I'll probably be proved wrong when Les or one of the more informed Grimsby fans turns up!

I'm not really sure why either. Red has regularly been a feature on the black and white shirts and throughout the 70's and 80's we always wore red socks. The red socks have only come back in the last few seasons though.
