On a small aside, thought ref was generally good but what was he up to with that bit of handbags after Jennings I think it was fouled Cooper then had words? Ref wandered off and left a dozen or so players to sort it out themselves.

Alright, none of the schtick now.

Mellon has done a super job, no doubts, but it looks as if we're not going to be denied now, they're relying on snookers - yes Torquay will battle hard on Friday, but if we're being brutally honest with ourselves again, there should be only one outcome. Aldershot are bang in form and will go there with confidence, and could nick something.

However, one defeat to FGR does not mean Tranmere won't win the play-offs, on paper they're the best team out of the four - the record against the heavyweights doesn't really mean much either, it's a different, higher-pressure scenario, not a standard league match. I would still be confident if I were a Tranmere fan - I think Friday's match will tell them a lot more about their chances for reasons quite obvious.

If I were a neutral, I would saying that Lincoln will finish the job, and either Tranmere or Aldershot via the play-offs.

He was definitely on the lenient side. Hughes could have gone for the late tackle instead of yellow and it sounds like Bennett could also have seen red not long after. I was actually surprised both sides finished the game with 11 on the pitch as there were a few dodgy tackles flying in first half but it seemed to calm down as the game went on.

I think the referee was very lenient in his punishments but was far too quick to blow his whistle at the slightest opportunity. Neither side could have argued if they'd gone down to 10, because we both gave him the opportunity to send someone off. The worst was probably a tackle by Buxton in the second half that he didn't even deem a foul - if he'd have connected with the player instead of the ball he'd have broken his leg, no doubt.

As for the mass handbags - the ref just bottled it. FGR are a pretty big side (or were yesterday at least) and they are physically imposing. Throw in the likes of McNulty, Jennings and Norwood, who certainly won't back down from a confrontation, and it just escalated far too quickly for him to handle.

Not blaming the referee though, the result is the result at the end of the day.

Lincoln can't keep scabbing these 1-0 wins, their luck has to run out soon.

Wasn't there last night, but it sounds another game this month where we've not performed particularly well but got the job done. Seems like we've gone into Braintree mode and keeping it tight at the back and relying on one goal to win the game compared to earlier in the season where we weren't keeping that many clean sheets but scoring more than enough.

Alan Power having one of his brain fart moments last night, which invariably puts us in trouble. Always seems to be a stupid cross field ball that's cut out (Ipswich away, for example), holding onto the ball for too long (FGR home) or throwing himself into a tackle (last night and ironically enough, away at Chester last season). Last night could have been the biggest and costliest brain fart he's ever had, had results not panned out as they did because it was finely balanced in both games at the time of his sending off.

You boys cost me £147 last night as well, bastards :p

Looked like you battered them from what bet365 were saying - hate those games when the longer it goes without a goal the inevitable happens

:10::10::10::10::10:

And we have a successful bite.

Makes last night even more embarrassing considering we're a village, and I'm actually from Stroud which is a town, please get your facts correct you miserable bastard :)

I would recommend to all Tranmere fans that they check out last entry (by Jokerman) on page 4 of the Tranmere game thread on the FGR forum.

Brilliantly funny game review and not offensive to our opponents.

Also there is also another post that I fully agree with:
"What a classy club. Outgoing, knowledgable supporters who really welcome their visitors.
All except one idiot who threw a stone or something equally hard at the coach just after leaving the ground."

Not really embarrassing in terms of performance. We had enough of that under Brabin.

A fair summary up to Connor Jennings who I think is too soft, especially in his finishing! Passed the ball to your keeper twice.

Said it to my brother first half.

There was a 5-10 min spell where we missed two "open" goals, rattled the crossbar, had 2-3 shots blocked and our most in form player got a season ending injury (I think we've had the entire divisions share of those) - that after all that FGR were going to sucker punch us at the death. Didn't make it any less gut wrenching.

Probably Reremnart taking out his anger at getting beaten by a village team.

Certainly wasn`t me. I`m not angry about the result last night. Just disappointed and with some justification. FGR came with a game plan and it worked out for them. The fact that part of their game plan was somewhat unsavoury, shall we say, is only to be expected. We have enough teams come to Prenton over the last two season using the same underhand tactics not to be surprised by it anymore. We could have been 2 or 3 up at half time but if you don`t take your chances you are always open to the sucker punch and that`s how it turned out.

One defeat and Tranmere fans are already talking about plans for next season? Steady on lads, it's still all to play for. Torquay won't be easy on Friday and Gateshead away on Monday is our toughest game left.
Our record against the top 5 is abysmal, winning three games in a row against them seems like a pipe dream at the moment!

I should add, despite me regularly taking exception to the FGR model, I find their fans to be a great bunch. Met a few in the tent last year and this year too. They were noisy too, considering their numbers. As a result, I'm a bit confused as to how I feel about that club!

I didn't think they were that bad, a big improvement on the FGR that turned up at Prenton Park last season in terms of cheating and gamesmanship. There was a few bad tackles early on but they weren't much worse than the one from Hughes. I'd even go as far as saying they ranked pretty low on my list of cheat teams I've seen this season.

Common now you're ruining it. We need to build a siege mentality for the remaining games. All our players are injured, refs hate us, opposition there solely to piss us off..

I agree with this. I thought they were fine, and the ref, if a little fussy at times, generally did a good job of stopping things boiling over. Tensions were high, but FGR were a far less niggly side than the ones who visited last year.

Glad you said that, the only possible thing I could think of was Woolery sitting down for a bit as added time ticked on but he had taken a bit of a bump and didn't really milk it.

Well done Imps, now come join us*. While last nights results were obviously very disappointing for the Tranmere fans, this also means that it won't go down to the last day, so plenty of time left to prepare for the play offs. Which is a much more ideal scenario than losing the title on the final day.

*surely it's over now?
