Game of the day for Boxing Day. We've had a mini-blip recently but seemed to have come out the other side and are now 5 unbeaten.
We were well worth the 3 points yesterday vs Pompey. We worked very hard and gave them no time on the ball, acknowledged by Jackett post match.
We still need a LB but Beckles is deputising for Junior Brown more than adequately.
Worrying that Hurst is priced low for the next SWFC manager, although not favourite.
Will be a huge test for us esp after given Wigans recent form. Tbh Wigan or Blackburn should piss this league but to be in 2nd place at Christmas is far exceeding almost the entire Shrews supporters dreams.
Any travel tips Latics? Parking? Drinking?
Only been to Wigan once - Springfield Park and we won 5-2, Nov 1993.

Defo game of the day pal. Fully expect you like all others visiting us to play frustrating football. This is a six pointer, we win and we go 7 points clear with a massive goal difference which adds as an extra point, you win and its all open again with us, u amd Blackburn.
How many u bringing?
Looking forward to this one, to be honest when the fixtures were anounced at the beginning of the season i was gutted as i expected u to be in a relegation scrap. Glad now though coz it adds to the christmas hype.
Tough game but expect us to get revenge on u for beating us earlier in the season...

I'm not sure about trying to frustrate you. Our defence, like yours is miserly and we have tended to play 4-5-1 but with 2 wingers so we'll look to get the ball wide.
We havent been steamrolling teams, unlike yourselves, so we won't score many but we have, on the whole, been solid so don't concede many.
Fingers crossed :err:

Totally agree, teams that tend to win 1-0 do tend to do well... alll's u can do is constantly keep winning and proving people wrong, including myself...

Might be GOTD on paper but certainly won’t be GOTD on the pitch. 0-0.

Heard Shrewsbury are bringimg 50 boys. Had some good scraps with those boys over the years. Ended up breaking my cheekbone at Gay Meadow. Remember getting on the pitch and smacking Sam Aiston. Wigan are shit off the pitch. Never brought a crew up here.

Ok... I'll bite.
As I said previously we have set up all season to be tight. Given your record, what team in their right mind would come and play open expansive football?
Perhaps take it as a compliment... Or even perchance that you're so superior to everyone else that no-one can play like you.
That said you've been the better side and had the better chances. You've worked hard and nullified our midfield, a tactic straight out of our playbook.
Dive of the season to Michael Jacobs looking for a pen when no-one near him.
Not sure much will change in the next 45 but who knows?

Not far wrong with this pal. I know it was 0-0 but it was an exciting one. Shrews sat back in the first half and then went for it in the second. Good 0-0 game this.
P.s credit shrews, best atmosphere this season at the DW...

hahahaha you don't like it ....

Wigan no doubt have some real players in their team as well as a couple of divas, but it was not all one way traffic as you suggest and we did also have a 2nd half 15 minute spell where we had Wigan pinned in their own half. it is only to be expected that Wigan, being the home team were going to throw everything they have at us, and you did, but you were not good enough.
In fact little old Wigan have not been good enough over 2 games to even score against us, so thank you for the 4 points and we move on.

Finally spit out the grape and take a leaf out of your managers book...

“It was a tough game but we knew it was going to be just that because they’re a good side. They’re very well set up, very strong and have got some good players. They’re having an outstanding season and I don’t see them fading away, they’ll go all the way to the wire.”

Respect to Paul Cook and I fully expect Wigan to win League 1

I wouldn’t get excited pal. Paul Cook praises every team we play. You’d have thought Fylde were Barcelona the way he banged on about them. Hell, he even lavished compliments on Oxford after we slapped them. Should have won but when your best chance falls to Ivan Toney then you know it’s not going to happen. Anyway I pretty much predicted exactly how the game would end up so no surprises here.

You did to be fair

I didn't rate Toney when he was with us, too lightweight. As for the miss, watching from our end I thought Henderson had the shot covered and you could see it going wide the moment the ball left his boot.

As for the strike against the bar (Power?) I must admit I thought shit that's going in, at the time.

Toney seems to have bulked up a bit with us but his finishing is atrocious and unless he improves it then his level will forever be midtable League One. The only way we looked like scoring would have been a goal like
Power’s volley because you lot soaked everything else up comfortably. I’m never happy with a point at home in this division but as long as we beat Charlton then it’s fine. You lot will be there at the end of the season no doubt. Some of our fans on here have a problem against you for whatever reason but I’ve always said you’ll be in the mix come May after you beat Rotherham with ten men.

Its like Wigan think they are some massive club. They have got a good manager true enough but world beaters they ain't. Well done Shrews and I read somewhere that you took over a 1000 so that means that all massive Wigan could pull in was about 10k for a Boxing day top of the table clash. Well done Wigan.

[Cookie was a good manager for us but that don't alter the fact that if it wasn't for Shrews following then your gate would be sub 10k for a top of the table clash.. Not good

This point will genuinely be lost on Wigan fans as they said the 400 they brought to us on 23rd was "double what we would have taken" if the fixture had been reversed. Absolute nonsense club.
