What time do you start drinking on an away day you attend?

Well lads? Obviously assuming you don't drive to the game- what time do you hit the bottle for a 3pm KO?

For almost every away game we get the 8 o clock train from Brum, ritual is, and always has been, the first cans are cracked as the train pulls away.

I don't drink by myself. There is a distinct lack of away following culture in France so I usually travel to games all around the country by myself. Next one for PSG is Basel which is a CL game and not only am I going by myself but nobody I know is remotely interested in going.

For this reason, I'd like to live in England/Germany. Used to hit the trains whilst in Munich with a mate and drinking started at 9am as kick-offs in the German second division were at about 1pm. Them were the days.

When you're from Bournemouth and everywhere is north, the top of the A34 and joining the M40 is generally the Bournemouth wide accepted starting point of all drinking. If you've brought your own crack on, if not you stop at the Family Farm services and stock up. Sometimes this can be quite early depending on where we're going that particular trip, it's around 90 mins in, 9-10am or so?

*If it's a London trip and thus you're on the train, the second you get on the train is an acceptable starting point.

Usually 8, that's what time the bar opens at the ground before we leave. If it's a Plymouth or Exeter away we'll leave before the bar opens and start as soon as we get on the coach. Nothing like a good away day. 7.30 start last week for Notts at home.

It's a 15-20 minute journey for me to Goodison so i don't leave til after 2 for a 3 o'clock match unless i meet up with friends and we are getting to the age where no-one can be arsed going on a bender and starting at 11 or 12............after the match we get hammered and work our way home pub to pub.

Cos I'm down Tesco at 9 to get their unbranded vodka

Worst ever away game was donkey's years ago when we were away to Newcastle - the 5-0 defeat that led us to being refused promotion to the top division due ' financial irregularities'.

Caught the 7.30am from Bristol Parkway, fully canned up. Got to Newcastle at 12.30 - staight into Yates'. Bit of a city centre crawl led us somehow to The Strawberry by which we time we were absolutely fucked and on the JD & Cokes. DIdn't realise it was one of the 'home only' pubs as we ordered drinks 'ooh aaaar this and ooh aaar that' but we didn't give a fuck and the locals, who were a bit less than welcoming to start with, warmed to us with our 3-man rendition of 'We hate Oxford and we hate Oxford'. Don't think they knew exactly where Swindon was as we were called everything between Worzel Gummidge and Cockney c***.

Funny post-game anecdote. One of my mates who was with us lived in Chippenham and had driven to the station to get to Parkway. He knew he was still pissed when he got back but, as you do, thought he'd get away with it. He was yards from home, stopped at the traffic lights when he saw a police car right behind him in his rearview. He said to himself 'concentrate, concentrate, don't stall the fucker or pull away too fast' only to drive straight into a wall. Fucking creased me, that.

Have we ever had an away day stories thread? There must be some good ones with the amount of people who post on here. The ones that last 2/3 days are always the best

Depends on whether the boss let's you go home after she finds out you fucked up her meeting by planking yon skip in front of her car. Unpaid overtime for the Johnny lad....

When I used to go to the games more often than not our games home and away against Celtic were 12 noon 12.30pm kick offs so we got the supporters bus about 10.30 or 11am....but before this we arranged sessions at someone's house starting 8am or 8.30 with copious amounts of bevvy and the wife of the house made rolls on bacon & rolls on sausage...great days indeed.

Depends, long away days we'll start up real early, the way we look at it is that 2/3hour train journey goes a lot quicker when you're pissed...

2 of us have once gotten in around 6 from a night out, then got up at 7 for Wrexham away, cracked open a few at 8 to start the day off, that didn't end too well

That's nowt, I pissed the bed after two bottles of Archers last week
Guy I used to work with came into his house one night after the pub walked into the bedroom, opened a walk in wardrobe door and pissed while his wife lay in bed in astonishment. I've never been to that point......
