On the up side, this board is the best on the forum. The silver lining of going down I guess...
This.

I'm not sure I'll bother posting next season, think will just have a year off before I can post in here again.

The one team you don't want to come down..... Barnet have a habit of going top in August and staying 1St.

If we hold onto Allen and akinde we stand a good chance. This team was allowed to drift under poor management Allen has showed In 8 games we are not the Basket case many relegated teams are.

Everyone is fucked when Akinde wins 46 penalties next season.

We have never played Barnet in a competitive match. I think they are the only member of the current 92 we are yet to play.

Hoping we can keep that record going.....

A frustrated Akinde getting sent off at the Racecourse for a dive after a Manny Smith masterclass in just about dealing with him was a glorious moment in none league history.

If I type 'BBC' into my search bar, the autocomplete still says 'league 1'. I wish my autocomplete would fuck off.

His only red in a Barnet shirt as far as I can tell and it wasn't in the box ago wouldn't have gained a pen

Be interesting to see who stays but Akinde, Tarpey and Akinola are formidable non league attackers that should give us a good start.

Akinde isn't the player he was down here 4 years ago following an ankle injury and he probably won't get more than 20 goals. Much of our squad is league quality though and if MA or anyone even vaguely competent is in charge we probably start as title favourites.

A huge number of very poor decisions have been made over the past 18 months. Hopefully we can put all this crap behind us now and make a proper go of it next year.

What are you going to do when Barnet play Maidenhead?! Will you have an identity crisis?! ;)

No chance we will be title favourites. Behave.

Akinde is fine, had an injury hit season but will be back as good as ever after a proper pre season.

Based purely on odds now, if Tranmere fail to beat Boreham Wood, I'd have you favourites.

Brindley, Clough, Santos, the good Taylor, Akinde, Akinola, Sweeney, Tarpey... That's a hell of a foundation providing half don't have relegation release clauses.

So you reckon it's more likely they will be a Crawley/Fleetwood/Forest Green, rather than a Grays/Histon?

Surely you mean the other way round? Boreham Wood won't be any threat next season if they stay down.

I do mean that, Tranmere are annoyingly a level above and if it wasn't for a dreadful start they'd be a league team again by now.

I think Wood have every chance of doing well again next season though, they have decent resources there.

Barnet are the only club who, when relegated from the football league, don’t seem to care - they’re set up to come back up each time. They’ll be tough to finish above next season.

Barnet will surely be favourites, should Akinde and/or Allen stay. Even if they don’t, they’ve got some top Conference players like Akinola, Clough, Weston and even some League 2 standard players. They’ve also got the money, experience and belief to back it up. Polar opposite of Chesterfield.

Clough was awful last year and will hopefully be off but otherwise I agree. Under any competent manager we'd have stayed up comfortably. Biggest factors were the early season injury crisis and the meltdown we saw under McGhee.

I'll quietly observe both games. Both teams will go into next season with very different goals. I didn't think I'd ever see them both in the same division when I first started going to Maidenhead games when Hippolyte was in charge and we nearly went down to step 3.

Clough was good for FGR. I think the FL is a step too far (see Jamie Turley or Connor Essam) and he's obviously got his limitations, but for this level he should be a really decent centre back (not right back).

This.

Barnet are a weird one. They go down, but never really fear for them, if that makes sense. Barnet seem geared up to be a yo-yo club.

If they keep hold of Akinde and Allen stays, the former scored a lot of goals under the latter. His style of play suits Akinde.

Certainly truth in this. All our players will have clauses that reduce their wages on relegation. All the players have contracts with clauses to allow the club to extend, it's like 2 years with the option of a third. Our chairman it's also very hard nosed about selling and if he wants a player to stay then he won't sell, even if they end up leaving at the end of the season for nothing.

It means the squad can be cut swiftly and the best players retained on a lower wage. A few may get upset and demand to be transfer listed but they know the score.

They must also be unique in that apart from the record number of promotions and relegations from and to the Conference, they're the only club I can think of that has used up every bottom-of-the-table final day scenario, ie:

- Stay up on the final day after being out of the relegation zone (2006, 2010, 2012)
- Stay up on the final day after being in the relegation zone and relying on one team to drop points (2011)
- Go down after it being in their hands (2001 when a win vs relegation rivals Torquay would have kept them up, 2013)
- Go down after being in the relegation zone and winning but not getting the result elsewhere required to keep them up (2018)

It would be nice if and when they get back up they were doing this regularly at the other end of the table!

I remain to be convinced that we'll hit the floor running next year. We've about 35 players that were in or around the match day squad last year (not including Blackman in that list, as he's not a footballer).

A huge job to cut that in half and then bring in three or four players that we need, even if we can keep the players that we want.

Aside from a new CB, I honestly don't think we need anyone, provided we keep most of our squad which I think we will. Remember the loan window is open all season down here.

The most important person to retain is Allen, or failing that someone with a strong reputation in recent years, not someone who was relevant 5-10 years ago (or 15 in McGhee's case).
