My main man G.B makes a fair point there. Sterling is a good winger but he's had a poor season. The rest of them are average to shite. Maybe 2 up front is the way forward.

even sterling is better playing behind the strikers imo. though if you were to make a case for anyone playing wide it'd be him. rooney? suicidal. welbeck? proven joke. lallana? proven joke. milner? proven joke. townsend? proven joke. vardy? why the fuck would you play him out wide you moron?

i don't see the sense in it at all.

I'd like to think he learned from the bang average Darmian dismantling his team 2 years ago not to play Rooney out wide. I mean, I doubt he has but I'd like to think it regardless.

Still of the opinion England should totally fuck off the idea of playing with wingers, as I have for years. We don't have any of any real quality. None. The insanely athletic fullbacks can provide the width and a compact midfield helps us out defensively. It also allows us to play 2 up front. I haven't seen anyone suggest a single 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 that hasn't made me think "that's a shit team".

Agreed. 4-4-2 diamond for me, the way we finished against Germany.

Something like the GK, back 4 and then...

Dier

Wilshere----Lallana

Alli

Kane--Vardy

The only role I'd accept Rooney in is behind the front two and then Alli can drop back into the midfield two. If he shoehorns him in onto the left, it's ridiculous.

Not the most random choice ever for left wing in an England side tbf. We'd had Trevor Sinclair and Darius Vassell in the past.

The surprise inclusion of Sinclair though was positive, he had a really good tournament.

It's just missing Adam Johnson.

A central midfield of Alli and Barkley is just a little bit attacking for my tastes. That's just me though I'm sure.

Midfielder Fabian Delph is unlikely to make England's final 23-man Euro 2016 squad because of a groin strain, coach Roy Hodgson says.

He shouldn't have made the final 23 anyway but that makes one decision easier for Roy.

Great to see likes of Hendo, Studge, Lallana, Clyne and Milly lead the England team.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Delph self culled a week ago with injury.

Three centre backs and five strikers though?

Why are we taking Barkley? He's never done anything for England, his form for Everton has been average and the only great game I've seen him play is away at Arsenal a few years ago, I suppose he can play in a midfield 3 and behind the striker but then again so can Rooney and Alli, and we only have one winger...

But what's more annoying is the squad numbers, Lallana 8 and Wilshere 18, Clyne 12. Who's arsed?! Me.

Delph was never going regardless. I think the last game did it for Drinkwater. Rashford scored and Danny couldn't hit a barn door with his passing in the last 15 minutes.
Good news is that if Roy is taking 5 strikers it's because we're playing 2 up front. If not he's a fucking idiot.

This. And isn't Cahill nursing a hip injury too? The thought of Smalling and Stones as our centre backs fills me with fear. We could be involved in a lot of 4-3's, with the result going either way.

Wilshere over Drinkwater ?
Sturridge? :fl::fl::fl:
No real problem with Wilshere being in over him. He's proved his fitness somewhat and for England he's done well. However there is nobody in that side that can replace Dier better than Drinkwater. At the time of his first call up he was the top tackling English midfielder in the league, ahead of Dier in that regard and that's without playing as a DM. So who better if Dier gets injured or has to cover a defender? Also he'd get more out of Vardy than the other options who all dither on the ball way too much.
