The 1 to 24 League Two prediction comp 23/24

It might be a bit early to start this thread but we now know the 24 runners and riders so I thought I would start it.

A Barrow fan won it this last season mainly because he put Hartlepool to finish bottom of the table and Leyton Orient to be up near the top. The idea is to list in order (1 to 24) the final order of teams in League Two for season 23/24. Points are awarded for how many places are different to your prediction, the poster with the lowest score wins. For instance if you predict Grimsby will win the league but finish bottom then you score 23 points, but if you predict Barrow finish bottom and they do you score nil points.
By adding the twenty four teams points together gives you winner.

Recruitment is the thing.

At the moment anyone whoe doesn't have Crawley and FGR bottom are dreaming. A bit of decent recruitment and we could escape relegation and FGR could hit the play offs.

We could quite easily struggle. We’ve won 10 of our last 63 league matches across nearly one and a half seasons, 1 of our last 27 in all comps and won’t have won an away league game in a calendar year come July.

Hard to stop that sort of downward momentum, Big Dunc is going to need to up his 5% win percentage quite a bit to make us competitive.

I bet on Leyton Orient the season before last @ 33/1 - as we all know they won it this season.

Last season I bet on Bradford so, by logical extension, they will win it this coming season.

In fact, they let me down on my pre season acca - Burnley, Wendies, Bradford and Wrexham all to be promoted.

Son of Cod - I echo the above. Despite the division appearing to be much stronger than last, I don’t think we’re a million miles away. In actual fact, the table proved that.

I think we’ll flex our financial muscle - more so than last. We know we’ll have to anyway, with the introduction of Wrexham and County, but others in this league will no doubt have to increase their wage bill to compete, too. Domino affect.

Given we’re not making wholesale changes to the squad for what seems like the first time in a longtime, it means we could chuck a healthy amount of wonga at players who will improve the squad, as opposed to making it bigger. Our CEO has already highlighted this today.

You might well be right, but I fancy Donny. Thrown Wimbledon in there as a wildcard. They're one of those clubs that'll get it right at this level once every few years based off location alone. I've got no reason to put you down in 11th other than the fact that I don't like Hughes really! 1. Yeah I get where you're coming from, mate. I'd probably have Donny up there too. Think they made a really good managerial appointment and the players they're looking at are quality. Not sure about Wimbledon for a wild card. Fancy Crewe surprising a few people. Also, that's fair enough again. I think a lot of people have said that they don't like Hughes. Not sure why. But you're obviously entitled to that opinion and I won't hold it against you.

Never really took to him as a manager either, comes across like a snidey dick whenever I've seen/heard him interviewed. Then there was that Chris Long thing at the back end of the season. And seeing him smarming all over Ryan Reynolds live on national telly in the build up to Wrexham v Sheff Utd. But apart from that, he's fine.

Hopefully Big Dunc will spend this summer watching a lot of League 2 footage, he openly admitted he knew nothing about League 1 or any of our players names when he arrived in January which probably didn’t help. Maybe we’ll do a bit better if he knows a bit more about the league we’re in this time.

Bit strange how Hughes was rated as a manager in the Prem not that long ago, and is now having to work down in the arse end of the professional game. Stoke even sacked Pulis to appoint him.

The Chris Long one is a bit weird for me. Long doesn't exactly have benign intentions when he runs half the field straight to Hughes. I thought the Wrexham thing was a bit weird, but he was born in/near Wrexham so perhaps that was a factor.

In fairness, he has had moments where I thought he was being stupid for a man of his experience. Like when he shoved a member of Carlisle's coaching team, or telling Neil Wood to fuck off after he didn't shake his hands, but he's Salford so we should give him a free pass on that one

When he was sacked at Southampton, he willingly took a year out from football and then COVID hit. Through his own admittance, he didn’t expect to manage at this level, but for me, that’s great. It proves it’s more than just about money - not that he’s skint by any stretch.

I like Bradford though, proper club, enjoy going there.

There's no club I dislike in the division. Don't like Pete Wild and his fist pumps. Don't know why he winds me up so much. No problem with Barrow. His excessive fist pumping on the opening day against us last season really boiled my piss. Fair play to him.

I really like Hughes, but then he is from here. I’d be very happy to have him as Wrexham manager and I love his passion for the game. I like that he was willing to go down the leagues to work. I think he’ll have Bradford up there this season.

We need to expunge an increasdibly toxic season and I'm not sure we will. ! point from promotion to the championship to relegation is not conducktive to an instant promotion.

Yep, the Twitter video didn't show that from Long to be fair. Still though, Hughes has to keep his head. Doesn't really send a good message to the players reacting like that to shithousery.

It's great that you're onboard with him in that case. I remember a few of you lot (can't recall exactly who) criticising Hurst last season for being too boring, etc. I personally, think he's our most valuable asset and arguably the best manager in the division but I'm well aware that nobody outside of our support will agree with that. Good to be backing your own manager, I'm sure like us you've had plenty of crap ones over the years, it's so much more positive going to the footy when you buy into what the manager is doing.
