I agree - when my eldest started playing kids football one of the other dads had previously had a year as a pro at Plymouth. When he was released he went to Truro and was part of the squad that won the FA Vase.

He refused to play 5-a-side or playing Saturday football after being let go by Truro as he couldn't play football for fun. However he would take part in the parents v kids kickaround at the end of a season and he was so good it was scary. Other parents played in Gloucester Northern Senior League (step below the Hellenic) and he'd run rings round them.

And this lad wasn't deemed good enough for a Southern League team!

Yeah, personally I’m shite at football but play purely for fun.

But I’ve played against a few guys that have at least had trials for lower league sides (but got turned down)…and even they are way better than the average clogger at my level.

I mean, I’m sure many of us have thought it watching a lower league defender just hoof it forward aimlessly… “hang on, I could do that”…but yeah, the fact that it’s insanely competitive to even make it as a third or fourth tier pro footballer is undeniable as far as I’m concerned.

Professionals are undeniably good footballers, no doubt about it. Sometimes it's about being in the right place at the right time too and having the right attitude. They also do a lot of strength, fitness and conditioning work which helps massively. My own personal experience is that I played against this lad (a few times) who later played in league 1 and there was far better players on both his side and ours.

I know a lad who's dad was an England International....he was also a very talented footballer but he preferred getting pissed rather than dedicating himself to football. He only played for low level non league teams but was easily good enough to play in the league.

It's kind of moving away from my original point in that unless you are the very best in your profession, there is no real room to gloat. Yes, you're obviously going to be good to be playing league football but you're still only good enough to play step 3. I don't think that's a reason to gloat....simply my opinion.

Pro's are miles ahead, largely fitness and brain I guess.

I played in goal in 6 a side against a lad from the National League at the time (Hyde United) and we lost 10-0 in 30 minutes! Some of my mates had a knock about when Paul Anderson joined in (Forest/Spurs) as he's from the same town and they couldn't get close, even the most pacey of them because he was just gone with the ball before they'd even thought about the next move.

Dont mind gloating if you get stick, its part and parcel but when they do it for no point it just seems stupid to me.

Coming back to this, funnily enough Aaron Ramsdale once came to our 5 a side game. He played in goal for a bit and looked OK but was outstanding out of goal...Best player on the pitch by a mile!

We've got a group that really do like winding up opponents. Mitchell, Erhahon and Taylor top of the pile when it comes to it.

I saw a youtube video with Ryan Tafazolli playing for 5IVE GUYS FC and he was bloody terrible........Still managed to score against us this season though obvs
