Well our first pre season friendly is tonight, against Hibernian.

It looks like it is going ahead. I thought it might end up getting postponed due to us not having enough players to field a team, but with trialists it looks like we’ve managed to throw something together. How competitive we’ll be I don’t know, Hibs are into their 3rd pre season game and their season starts on Saturday with their league cup group stage. I expect them to roll us over but they will be my excuse when I go into work tomorrow to be greeted by all the piss taking from Mackems and Geordies

Hibs have sold 850 tickets for their friendly at BP tomorrow night.

Thread on their forum about the match is basically just two pages of 'wair can ah get pashed fair a tenner'

Ugh, you'll need to fumigate the place after they've been.

Well this has escalated.

Spanishstag, you can hold a straight pride if you like but you might not get along much with the sorts who turn up to it.
It wasn,t me who suggested it though was it ?

I'm guilty on that one, but I apologise for the original post. Let's keep this thread to the discussions it is meant for.

1-1 we took the lead through bridge.

We're a bit sloppy. Storey hasnt been given much to do, drops back into midfield a lot. Most players have given it away a few times, Iredale and Mellish in particular, one of which led to the equaliser. IBK started quite bright but now just doesn't look like he's as up for it. Webster and McKirdy both impressive

Drew 2-2 with Hull City at the Marbella Football centre in Spain - Goals from Dale Gorman and Josh Coulson. Played last ten minutes with ten men, took a player off as precuation and had no subs left.

Slightly concerned that we might need a goalkeeper as our first choice who played every single game and minute for us last season Dean Brill currently appears to be injured.

Our line up after 60 minutes contained a few from our youth team whose names I don't know, apart from Kerr. So it was like

Gray
Elliot, Duffus, NKP, Youth
Kerr, Scougall, Youth
Youth, Reeves, Hope

Defensively we looked OK. Duffus impressed, and Elliott impressed massively. Mellish looked good at left back for his short spell there too. IKP never really impressed and neither of the centre forwards we went with got much of a sniff. They started exploiting the kid we put on at left back and Gray didn't know whether to come or not for a long ball that led to their second.

Fairly happy with most of our performance. The question up front still remains. I don't think IKP is the answer, the kid we brought on for him looked better . Storey or Reeves could be but unless we set up differently we'll never know. We were the better team until we brought the kids on.

Any Stags off here coming Alfreton on Saturday?

I’m away now but If it’s the first team going it’s the first time to properly see them other than the Swansea game in Portugal so I imagine a decent turnout.

Because many of the LGBT community cannot even consider coming out due to the abuse many still receive. It is the one day where they can feel free from judgement, abuse and oppression.

The case for pride events is pretty obvious if you have one liberal bone in your body.

Agreed...if evidence were ever needed as to why so few professional male footballers have come out as being gay whilst still playing the game then this thread, representing a small corner of the football community, provides precisely that.

We put up a decent fight. The way the game started I thought we were going to get battered, but that’s probably down to them being sharper as they are further into preseason. We were on the ropes but game became even. The defending though for their goals... absolutely all over the place we were.

Of the trialists, Storey was shite, Duffus was shite, Reeves and Buckley-Ricketts were also shite but feel with these 2 they might be worth a longer look. Storey and Duffus need chased, waste of time.

Christie Elliott looks a find at right back.

Some good things, some terrible things. Early days into preseason but what is clear is we need to sign some forwards.

Edit: I think I’ve got storey and Reeves mixed up. I think it was storey (first half) that looked slightly the better of the 2. Reeves just doesn’t look physically capable of playing at this level to me.

We're at Woodbury Park in Exeter for the week.

Apparently we're playing a previously unannounced behind closed doors friendly tomorrow against opposition our assistant manager said we can't name. Not sure why.
We played Cardiff City and drew 1-1, most of the squad got some time on the pitch and our goal came from a penalty scored by McCoulsky.

Beat Tiverton Town 1-0 tonight. Young striker Ben Seymour with the goal.

A bit of a mixture of some first team players and youth. Most likely be a stronger lineup against Bath City on Friday

Beat the mighty Brighouse FC 2-0.

We fielded a team full of trialist. Most noticeably Chris Taylor and Lionel Ainsworth featured.

I left at half-time and missed all the fun - nawhhhh.

Smoke bombs and pitch invasions.

- and yes we really did have a trialist named Nortei Norty!

Nortey was released by Dover at the end of last season.
Wasn't expecting him to be anywhere near a team in a higher division

He did alright, tbh. Worth another look, but I suspect most of these players are just here to build match fitness whilst they consider their next move. Of course, we’ll be happy with that to ensure we can field enough players to keep tabs on the actual trialists we’re actually keen on.
