90,042 population Halifax... 200,000 in Calderdale yet Halifax Town get about 1,300 fans. That must be the worst % of population to attendances around. No other sports teams in Halifax either.

Do people in Halifax not like football?? Surely Huddersfield etc aren’t that big of a pull on the Halifax population. The Shay is a good ground too shame not many people turn up.

A town that size with limited competition should really be pulling in 5-6,000 at least. I know it’s a reformed club but even the original Halifax were the poorest supported FL side at the time.

Similar situation in Chester, large, fairly affluent place, poor attendances. No real competition on the doorstep. Yet they struggle for 2,000 fans.

What gives? Also sorry for going off topic.
What poor research. Current average is 1700. You may have missed it but we set a national record for Level 6 last season when 8000 came along for the play off final. The local rugby league club is still one of the big names in its sport and draws around the same as us. I dare say a fair chunk of them would support the local football team if there was no rugby side in the town. Compare that to say Rochdale, a similar sized town, similar histories until 1993, but a rugby league side that's never done much and draws only a few hundred.

Limited/No real competition on the doorstep? Are you for real? Leeds United, 15 miles away, Huddersfield 7 miles, Bradford City 10 miles, Man Utd 25 miles, Man City 25 miles. Do yourself a favour, go away and find out what you're talking about before you comment further. Oh, and more relevantly, remember you support fucking Bury! :fl:

Do the people of Halifax really have an affiliation with Bradford though?

Can’t imagine there being too many Halifax born and bred Bradford City fans.
FYI, we have a very close kinship with City. For a time in the seventies, there was a group of City fans who came to The Shay when Bradford were away, and some Town fans returned the favour. In the eighties, City were always in our corner when we needed a hand up. They let themselves down when they offered season tickets for £50 to Halifax post codes, when we went bust in 2008, but that was down to a Halifax born director pissing on his hometown. Oh, and our board comprises 3 city fans and ex-directors. So again, go away and find out what you're talking about before making a further fool of yourself. :bdick:

1,700 with away fans included I imagine. Huddersfield and Bradford aren’t that big a club to really pull significant support from Halifax surely... Leeds perhaps.

Yes I support Bury. A smaller town with more competition, that has always had atleast double the crowds of Halifax... go figure.

We have Bolton next door but you don’t get many Bury born Bolton fans... surely it would be the same for Halifax towards Bradford or Huddersfield.

Yeah so take off the average away support in the National League and their average would still be around 1650.

What about Leyton Orient? Or Tranmere? Bigger than all this league combined. Bet they can’t believe they have to share a league with you lot

Counts for nothing. It's like being the oldest, biggest kid in the school year only because you have had to redo the year three times. It just highlights how crap the last 5 years has been.

From a forever non-league viewpoint, I would say
Tranmere
Wrexham
Leyton Orient

Top 4 is clearly Tranmere, Orient, Wrexham and us. We're an averaged size L2 club, possibly only Tranny and Orient can say they're bigger than that.

Our average would be higher than 3.5k if we had something decent to watch. It's actually a miracle we get anywhere near that considering the shit we've been through last 6/7 years.

Stockport are bigger than all of the above bar Tranmere and they’re even lower down the pyramid.

Stockport, Hartlepool, Tranmere, Wrexham, all familiar bed fellows from our days bumping along on the bottom of the Football League. We remember where you all came from even if you like to forget. :bdick:

Is that the same Hartlepool that had to apply for re-election even more times than we did? :fl:

FC Halifax Town 2008 have never applied for re-election to the Football League. Interestingly enough there was a club called Halifax Town AFC who were the only club to get relegated from the Football League twice when there was only one relegation spot before 2up/2down. But they don't exist anymore

Oh for fucks sake, you missed the show, we did all of this 10 years ago. We won. There's nothing new you can bring to the debate. Take it up with the FA if you want to appeal. Don't waste anymore of my time on this. Bye.

Too true. These youngsters know nothing about life in the post-war years. :bg:

I remember those days well. In the early to mid 1980's there was a group of clubs always battling for re election. Crewe, Hereford, Rochdale, Hartlepool, Halifax and Tranmere. I remember Tranmere being that skint in 1982 that they started the season with only 7 professionals on the books including player manager Brian Hamilton and player coach Ray Mathias. Only one side of the stadium was open as we didn't have the funds to maintain the other 3 sides. On match days there always seemed to be more people heading away from Prenton Park than to it. Other than this period though Tranmere were pretty much a solid division 3 team.
