The club has just tweeted we've sold out our allocation of 1850 for Macclesfield New Year's Day. Amazing if true but I find it hard to believe, nobody I know actually has a ticket yet, including me.

I mean this in a good way, not in a taking the piss way, but if you had sold out the 1850 why would you be amazed?
You are a big club, top of the league, with a 104 mile round trip on New Years Day, it would be more amazing if a club of your size riding high at the top did not sell them out to be honest.
Like I say I don't mean that in a negative way but if you stay around the top then as a neutral fan looking in I would expect you to sell out pretty much every away game within a 100 mile radius of Tranmere until the end of the season.
Good luck anyway, looks like being an exciting title race this season.

Saying that, I can see Macclesfield's 'no cash turnstiles' policy causing major headaches on the day, as there will be plenty of our lot having to visit their ticket office prior to the game. I'll certainly be getting there early!

We've managed ok with bigger followings than Tranmere will bring, Vale used to bring 3000 or so and we managed, but still expect a lot of queuing and definitely don't expect a pleasant match day experience!

We have a bigger regular away support, that's all - and the difference there may be mostly accounted for by Nth Lincs exiles. There is no way Gy would get 7k at BP on a Monday night even if were top of the league and it was a tenner. Lincoln have a better home ground in a much less run-down area. We've lost 25-30% of home support compared to the 70s, alot no doubt the 'Shire farming set who don't fancy passing boarded-up pubs along dog shit alleys - we won't get those sorts back until we have a new stadium, and many of those who live in those terraced streets around BP can't afford to go to home games regularly.

Most we've taken anywhere for an away game since I think Fulham in 1982 when around 6000 went bar the playoff finals in 2003 and 2005.
Our average home crowd this season is 3644 so to sell 4833 is just amazing.

Would expect us to get past 8k a few times in the run in if we are involved.

Happened to us every time we had a bumper 12k+ gate in league one. Actual core supporter base is probably as high as it has ever been, very bizarre given our rapid decline.

We took 8,000 to Middlesbrough a few years back - by the next week the crowds were back down to 1,000 or so. Our core support is probably the 500 or so that were still bothering when we were bottom of Conference North a few years ago. Unlike you, our biggest hindrance seems to be the stadium itself - a lot of people can't see past the crumbling ground and think "I'm not paying £14 to stand in that".

If we are top 2 we will get over 8000 v southport and aldershot.... promotion fever will kick in.

If we make fa trophy final club may try to pull a priority voucher thing and non football glory hunters will flock to the ground not realising we will have 30000 tickets to get shut of

We had 9k for the play off semi vs Luton in 2012 (obviously they brought a few) I think our average attendance that season was around the 4k mark

If southport was a big game it'd be far higher than 8k.
