Very comfortable away win for the Moors today who keep going about their business quietly and stay in the playoff pack. Long may it continue!

For half hour I witnessed the best display by a Southend team for some time, years, then Nathan Ralph decides instead of just lumping it out he's going to try and take on two Notts players by the side of his own box, obviously looses the ball, which is played in for an easy goal. And that was that. We have no mental fortitude, we have no nous and ,barring a couple of players, are just so ponderous.
Hobson and Dunne are worst for this, getting the ball, taking a touch then wanting at least 10 minutes to decide just what they'd like to do with it. I'm quite pleased it's a month before I venture to Weymouth for another day out that will start well and be tainted by watching Southend United.

Thought Notts were excellent on the ball, the passing and moving great, don't know how the 18 got man of the match, the 17 was outrageously good for this level, his balls in behind and his finding of space exceptional.
Thing I'd be worried about if I was a Notts fan is how easily we made the defenders make mistakes and we weren't even very good at pressuring them consistently.
I'd say you play Notts you man mark the 17 wherever he goes and just play high and in their faces, they'll give you the ball back high up the pitch.

I thought you started the game quite well, but god you really have been bad for some time if that’s the best you’ve played for years haha.

Our 17 is Frank Vincent, young midfielder who only broke into the team a few weeks ago. He’s really good, will be the next of ours to start being linked with a big move. I agree he should’ve been man of the match today - you actually managed to keep Rodrigues quiet for the most part, which no one has really managed recently, but we’re in a nice position where we’ve got three really technically gifted young attacking midfielders and if Ruben doesn’t get you, Roberts or Vincent will do. The passing out is just how we play, looks great when it comes off but obviously high risk. To be fair that was probably the messiest I’ve seen us on the ball all season, the back three and Palmer gave it away a lot more than they normally do.

I don't have an adequate vocabulary to even begin to describe how bad we've been for so long!

Vincent was superb, after your second goal I watched him rather than the game, just the movement, where he was looking, the spaces he was taking up. I've watched this division long before Southend were relegated here, best player I've seen at this level at any match I've seen.
If his performances are like that and as consistent as that before and after this game then I can't see how he can't be going to a higher division, I guess you'll have to hope he helps get you promoted this season

For real, with 17 goals in 10 games already this season the kids a phenom

We were pretty poor first half, made problems for ourselves. You're right about no 17 Vincent he was on fire today, incredible turn around in his career with us, he couldn't make the bench and only got his debut in the first round cup replay when we were in a slump, scored a goal, hasn't looked back and is now crucial to our midfield.
I always thought you'd stay up as you'd have enough resources with the parachute payments to spend your way to safety. Phil Brown was a terrible appointment, it looked it from here and if you're under embargo now I don't see how things get better without a couple of fresh faces. It's going to take a good manager to lift that teams spirits and change the mentality I think.
Great support from you today and very few of you left before the end.

The funniest thing about today's game was when the ref sent off the Barnet player then straight away yellow carded every single member of their coaching staff

17 in 10! He didn't score today, I'd say we've actually won this game with a moral victory keeping him off the scoresheet.

Sadly who the manager/coaches are matters not until Ron decides he's going to either bugger off and let someone else have a go or actually start supporting the club financially again.
We were never going to spend whatever money we've had coming in, well not on the team.

Just groundhog day, well season, for us yet again, death by a thousand paper cuts. Get to watch a new low next week when Dorking beat us in the Trophy.

3 goals conceded in the last 10 and W8 D2 L0 is ridiculous considering we don't have a squad. To have that record with 14 half fit players is incredible.

Champagne corks popping around Chesterfield tonight I'm hearing, they believe this is done. You can't blame them for the celebrations, they are the best side in this league with a striker bound for Peterborough come January.

If Rowe stays beyond January then it's still done IMO. They won't lose this from here.

I still love the mental stuff refs do in this league. Ours today randomly decided to blow his whistle just after we’d taken a corner, everyone stopped apart from one Southend player who launched a one-man counter attack. God knows what would’ve happened if he’d scored.

Just reading the response from Chesterfield fans on Twitter about being turned away at the train station and it’s good to see WhoWasFone/CarsonSucksCock managing to get his point across:

They were turned away because they hadn't had their tetanus jabs, a requirement for entering the sh1thole known as Grimsby

I wouldn't get too worried yet. They were nothing special today against us, an utterly shite inept team massively out of form. If you splurge loads of cash in January you've got a decent chance of reeling them in, especially if Tshimanga gets injured or sold.

He's doing well there when asked isn't he Whittle, proper little warrior of a player, big compete level in him
Love him. Versatile battler who runs for fun and isn't short of a bit of skill. Reminds me of Jack Hunt somehow.

Well there you go then, silly fuckers should’ve got their tetanus jabs before coming if that’s part of the legal requirement for entering Grimsby.

Us beating you is karma cos you wanted our club to go bust cos we asked for frost cover donations. Sorry I don’t make the rules.

45 injuries and still top of the league

It was sold out. All we got was 1600.

sadly about 80 we’re sent home about midday, including a couple of my mates who I had their tickets so that explains why it so many with tickets didn’t make it

This idea that going to blundell park is akin to trying to cross the Berlin wall or visit the Gaza strip is utter nonsense. Unless you're looking for fights and arguments there's nothing to worry about. I've taken the train to cleethorpes countless times with away supporters and if you just alight it and head to a pub in cleethorpes and walk down grimsby road to the ground nobody is going to give you any trouble. Might be different if you're part of the stone island / adidas samba crowd, but thankfully my fashion sense has moved on from the 80s so I dunno what their experience is
That was my experience. Few beers on Sea View Road then got escorted to ground along sea front. Absolutely fine day out

I know some of our fans were running riot early doors hence being sent home but avoided all of that

Grimsby playing Park bus at home was amusing. Nearly got you a point, but that's why we pay kabby £48k a week.

Blundell Park is the worst stadium in England. Horrible.

Was a very good goal.
If you keep him and/or Rowe in January, I think you may just top the pile come May.

If it was a choice between the two, I'd choose Rowe to stay and it's not even a question. Hopefully they'll both still be here though

Fair play to Halifax, they are still up there.
We're not going anywhere. Called it in September - after 3 years of visible, steady progression we are now a VERY accomplished team. We are the REAL deal and REAL contenders. Expect a Barrow-like charge to the top in the New Year. You heard it here, we are going UP this time! :bdick:

Haha yeah course it is mate. All the fans have sticks and after the match they chase you down that street with dog shit all over it shouting racist slurs.

Give me a proper ground over a lump of plastic any day.
Great finish to be fair. That's what 250k gets you, a ridiculous fee for this level but it's proving to be money very well spent.
