Congratulations Grimsby. Great support, good club. I'm made up for you. You deserve it.

Attendances, attendances, blah blah blah. Just a big load of silly waving over the number of balti pies some clubs sell in here. FGR have plenty about them to grumble about, but moaning about the size of their support just comes across as petty, immature and jealous. Can't knock the fans that travelled to support.

Chuffed to bits for Grimmers though, deserved it last year to be honest. Think they'll be a firm mid table bet next season - although how well Amond and Bogle cope with the better defences will play a huge part of any successes for them.
It's not about attendances or lack of. It's about arrogance and entitlement. I'm not going to tar all FGR fans with one brush but there has been a lot of bullshit about their tremendous upsurge of support and interest. There was a thread about their new stadium in which I was informed that FGR would be looking to take support from north Bristol :cool1: as a club "on the up" . To see that piss poor effort at the biggest game in their entire history just shows the extent of the arrogant delusion.

No need for that, I've got another for you:

Less of the arrogance next year, yeah? It's unbecoming.

Correct.

Nowt wrong with Jovial Forester or Clarkey claiming they can feel it in their waters, nowt wrong with being very confident in your team, nowt even wrong in having the odd team you'd particularly love to beat given previous, but then there's being a bit of a utensil, without the painstaking time commitment and attention to detail given by B2TF.

I'd say Forest Green will never get into the football league for as long as some keep up their personas, but much to my annoyance football doesn't follow clear-cut karma relationships as defined by me based on a handful of individual rival fans. That camaraderie I've had talking to the likes of Chester, Aldershot and Tranmere fans though? Some of us first have to pipe down before they get to experience it.

Also: "Wemmers". Is that really a thing now?

Folk mock gateaheads support but 7000 at wembley proved the potential is there to grow crowds after all team does have catchment area and good transport links to ground. Forest green maybe have hit ceiling in terms of increasing fan base

there could be a who lot of Newcastle fans come down as well if it was a chance to cheer you into the league.... I can't see any Cheltenham etc fans in Gloucester cheering on FGR as today proved...

Again, agree with you Aber! But the flip side to it is that it does make the fans of so called 'big clubs' down here look incredibly jealous of where FGR are - despite the arrogant entitlement mentality, short-term money, small crowds. Maybe this is the turning point for FGR where Vince realises that he's not going to make a viable team out of them and starts to pull the plug. But for now they're at what might be their peak - their attitudes are a bit understandable.

I think deep down, a lot of these fans are just jealous of the position little FGR find themselves in. But their attentions might need to be turned inwards to their own clubs rather than out at FGR.

That "cameraderie" that Pliny talks about is real and exists only between the great and historic ex-football league teams. Everybody feels it. When one of them is in town, you feel it the moment the first group of away fans walk into the pub. It feels like family coming home. You feel it when you visit their towns and cities. You feel the connection, the brotherhood, the mutual respect. This sense of fraternity is entirely absent with the rest. There are 4 fixtures next season that will make our time in that league bearable. We will greet Stockport and Darlington like long lost brothers and know that we are not alone. Long live the Golden 92. :fing:

How do you define your Golden 92 , B2TF ? Clubs have come and gone throughout the Football League's history , not just since automatic promotion was introduced .

Fantastic to see Grimsby up. Honestly really happy for them, proper FL club that have done their time in the non league. If Davis goes early enough i'll probably head to Grimsby away as it isn't too far from where I live.

Couldn't have FGR up in the FL, they would have pissed league 2 as well with their money and itll be dull as fuck. Id hate to support a club whose success is purely based on money and the only reason the good players are at my club is just because of the money, whilst knowing at any point the chairman could get bored and fuck off and put my club in liquidation. Id hate it.
Was his name Horsley, the man whose money kept FGR up for years. I thought the way he was treated by Swampy when he bought the club was one of the reasons FGR are held in such contempt.

How come the decent FGR have come on here and been very gracious in defeat.

Yet the collection of bellends who have made this forum unreadable at times have quickly retracted.
To be fair to ChrisFGR i don't think you are allowed to use the internet in a police cell.

I still can't quite believe that we've finally done it, we are a Football League team again.
The best thing about it for me is i started taking my lad around 5 years ago so he has only ever seen us in non league, seeing him crying tears of joy yesterday as opposed to 12 months previous tears of sadness made my heart melt, finally we are on our way. :)

Simple. As defined on previous occasions, they were in the Football League in 1986. This is not up for debate. :ds:

You know that in 1986, English football was at its lowest ebb with the lowest attendance figures ever? Hardly a halcyon time to look back on with fondness.

A quick look shows that 11 clubs that were in the League in 1986/87 are no longer there - now non-league. To me , that shows that those 92 did not represent the "best " clubs or why are so many now relegated out ? So I guess you're saying those 92 had some God given right to be the only clubs ever worthy of membership. Your problem with that approach is that those 92 changed greatly over the previous history of the League. I assume you picked that season as the one where automatic promotion came in - so you presumably endorse the re-election system, in which case you're golden 92 never existed either.

Well done to The Fish- your fans were great & we enjoyed the game which could have quite easily been levelled, but we simply didnt take the chances we had, GTFC was just more clinical. Perhaps it was just more determination that got you over the line in the end.

More of the action happened our end both halves, KMBs goal was class, 2 good saves from good shots but then Arnold must have been very disappointed to have spilled the second goals initial shot.

Credit to Disley, he is a superb leader isnt he- will he have the legs for league 2?

Look forward to watching Cheltenham V Grimsby next season, we will be in the Cod end again if you will have us there :ds:

I hardly expected those left out in the cold would be happy about it but there you are. Lump it. :fing:

Absolutely gutted tbh, close game but Grim took their chances.

As I said to a number of your lads I ran into down Wembley way and TGI Fridays afterwards, well played and good luck next season.

Was up the Green Man pre game too, decent pub not sure why it was shut afterwards was desperate to get smashed asap to drown the memory. Stopped serving at 3 not long after we'd headed down the hill, after some twat threw a flare.

Yet another year in this tinpot league it is then, great.

Back home after a brilliant day yesterday. I'm not ashamed to admit I had a tear or two in my eye when the 3rd went in.

Thought we thoroughly deserved the win yesterday as apart from their superb goal I don't think they really troubled our keeper, especially with that miss of Parkins.

Great to see Bogle grab a couple of goals too as Amond had a quiet game yesterday.

It'll also give our players an incentive to sign on again next season as we only have 3 contracted for next season at the minute.

Now to sell a few more thousand tickets and have a big "Goodbye To Non-League" party next week.

Ideal first game next season....Donny away...we take about 5k I reckon.

2 to come up next season for me, Wrexham and Lincoln. Wrexham, as they've served even longer down here than we did and Lincoln for the Derbies and for Lincolnshire football in general.

Anyway chaps, sorry to say goodbye, it's been emotional but I'm off back to The League 2 forum now. :bg:

Cheers, even though i thought that we deserved to win we also had the play off gods smiling on us for once i felt, we both had a shot spilled by the keepers and ours fell for Bogle but yours fell to Nsiala to clear, bogle's first goal deflecting in off your defenders head, couple of goalmouth scrambles you had second half that looked like nailed on goals and then Parkin's miss, on another day it could have been different but after our rotten luck in previous play offs i was more than happy to take it this time.
Strange as well because when your keeper saved the Bogle header and Arnolds shot onto the post, it felt like same old story and we weren't gonna have the luck again, but then everything after that went for us.
I have never clock watched as much at a game than i did that second half though it felt like time was going backwards at some points!
I thought your fans that were there were very good too, barely stopped singing all game and sounded really loud when Marsh Brown scored his cracker.
Finally Marsh Brown i thought was superb all game, certainly didn't deserve to be on the losing side.
