Let's face it. Mansfield are a more attractive proposition than Carlisle and most clubs in this league these days, but that's down to them paying more money and nothing else. If anyone thinks these players are at Mansfield for any other reason then they are kidding themselves.

There's nothing else more attractive about Mansfield Town FC compared to other clubs in this league including ourselves.

I am also interested how you seem to know our finances and also you seem to think it is a matter of course that players will sign for Carlisle over Mansfield.
Especially for Mirfin I would see us being much more attractive than Carlisle.

Money and location aside, what else could possibly make your club more attractive than us?

Agreed. Works both ways in most situations(not all)

We have lost plenty of players that did not want to live miles from where they come from. Presumably the same happens for you too, so I can see Mansfield being a bit more attractive for some purely on geographical grounds. That said, I suspect you are right about moolah.

Mirfin was scheduled for a medical at Vale Park and Mansfield came in and offered him more money at the last minute. We will be one of the bigger spenders in the league (and offered more than League One clubs to try and keep Foley for example) so they must be paying a few bob. Evans always needs money to succeed.

Wonder if that is the new third kit...

Looks like that's one of the 2 new kits - look at the bottom of the article on the OS.

EDIT: Also on the Hattersworld web shop!

McCormack sounds like exactly the type of player we were missing, so nice to see Jones learning. Obviously there will be some concerns about his niggling injuries last season, but if he stays fit he's a Championship player with bags of experience and a proper leader in midfield.

Happy with that, been crying out for a player of his ilk for god knows how long. As JD says if he can get past those niggling injuries then I fancy he will be an excellent signing.

Seems like what we have been crying out for all last season, has had a few injuries though so would hope that's not the end of the central midfield additions. But we needed experience there and he seems to have it.

New 3rd kit looks gross though

1st of June and we have no manager and not a sniff of new signings.

Alan McCormack is a class signing for Luton, I would love to have him back at the CG.

We're both clubs in League 2, what else do you think players in this league base their decisions on?!

Better history perhaps? Or it could be the fact that we get much bigger crowds and are not just some little service stop on the way to Nottingham.

How long until Mansfield are put into administration and end up like Stockport? Their fans do not seem worried at the slightest with all these new signings they clearly can't afford.

We should have signed Mirfin and possibly another couple they stole under our nose, but of course Evans offers more than what he really has, the crook.

Believe me we have had our brush with the devil himself and endured well over a decade of it so we know how bad things can get.

Our current owner has been here 7 years he hasn't just rolled in and yes he paid for us to escape the conference but not many get out without that. Since we have been back in the league we have consolidated and reduced debts year on year so are in a much stronger financial position now.

No doubt he is bolstering it but not to millions upon millions.

Relocation has to come into it as well from a logical point of view why would you go and share a house or live in a hotel miles from your family when you can earn the same (or slightly more) 45 minutes drive away??

I'm not saying this won't all end in tears because no one has a crystal ball but the owner has worked very hard to get us where we are so as pessimistic as I am I just don't see it.

I'm sure every footballer thinks no I don't want to stay near home I want to play for a club who played in the top flight for a season 40 odd years ago!!

Much bigger?? Not really and the irony of Carlisle calling anywhere else a service stop is brilliant :2thumb::2thumb:

Mansfield are massive.

But it's money, nothing else. End of discussion.

Reece was quality when he played for Notts a few years back. I thought he'd go onto bigger things so not sure why he's playing for FGR in League Two. Must have gone down hill somewhere
He's claimed it's because he likes Mark Cooper, suppose he has to say something. Also talk of a bit of off-field bad discipline but no idea what's being hinted at. Seems like a really promising youth to me.

Of course.

Carlisle is a nice place, it's one of the away days i'll normally stop over for.

Like Hartlepool etc, they probably have to pay a player more for the remoteness in comparison to other clubs.

Cambridge have apparently signed Gary Deegan.

I have Football Manager 2011 open at the moment. He looks like a good Premier League central midfielder. However, his first touch is 6, which might explain why he has dropped into League Two.

My mate who is a season ticket holder at Southend said Deegan would tackle his nan if she had a ball at her feet.

Double hard bastard apparently. Exactly the type we needed last season.

Your town being in the middle of nowhere may have its perks. There are loads of decent, competitive clubs of a similar stature in a manageable distance from Mansfield - Chesterfield, Lincoln, Doncaster, Rotherham, Scunthorpe etc. Most summers we'll probably scrap it out for the same players.

At least if there's a player in the Carlisle/Plymouth area you guys might be the favourites.

We supposedly offered to match the wages a player was getting in League 1, then Mansfield came in and doubled it.

As I said... the PSG of League 2.
