Suggestions we will be bringing in a free agent today, happened against Pompey a few weeks ago whereby we announced them just before kick off.

There is a rumour on our forum its Liam Moore the ex Reading CB. Proven pedigree but huge injury concerns.... ironically would be brought in to cover our injury crisis.

Liam Moore does indeed sign until the end of the season. Was captain at Reading for a long time and played hundreds of games at the level above, injury record in recent years a huge concern. Interested to see how he gets on when he plays.

Sure he’s nowhere near match fit, but I doubt he could have done any worse than any of the clown CBs on the pitch last night.

Dwight Gayle rumoured to have been at Vale Park today... obviously close to Darren Moore from his time at WBA and having left Stoke would maybe be a likely move until the end of the season?

On a side note former loanee Ollie Arblaster is wanted be Liverpool, would be a great and well deserved move for the lad, levels above when he was here and no surprise we've struggled since he was recalled.

34 years old now, but would surely still be useful at this level. Would be a smart move I reckon.

If he has legs and is a striker it would be an improvement we are playing a 16 year old most games the last 30 as Wilson is having to be managed.

Flickers has confirmed we are chasing a free agent striker on the pod interview…

Seems to confirm the Michael Smith deadline day falling through at the last minute.

Gayle is an interesting one. Rumoured to be on a lot more money than we could possibly afford, had an awful time at the Shit (although they seem to ruin a lot of players), and is getting on in years. But even now, he would surely be light years ahead of Loft ability wise and you'd maybe expect him to notch half a dozen goals before the season ends. Could be the difference maker and in the short term, what have we got to lose?

Stoke have paid him up so money may not be an issue until the end of the season would make sense.

Interesting Pod with Flitcroft maybe got an unfair time listening to what happened in January, Smith obviously missing out on the Arsenal lad who went to Sturm Graz and scored in the conference league last night, huge bid placed for a top league two striker (assume the Bradford lad) but he wanted to wait and go Championship in the summer. Sounds like Marriott was one and missing out on the lad who went Lincoln down to location.

Another big money bid for a Championship player who wanted to come but his club couldn’t get a replacement so will go back there in the summer.

Looks like we will back Moore in the summer.

January was horrific just based on figures being banded around.

When I spoke with Darrell Clarke last week he pretty much said as much. We looked at a couple of players and the wages being asked were a joke. It's why we ended up putting a 33 year old on a 2 and half year contract and loaning a forward from the Conference.

We've just been turned down by Joe fucking Dodoo because he wants too much money - he's played no football all season, but wants more than we can afford.

Pretty much what was echo'd a lot of the time here in terms of any forward we were after. Even those in non league now are no longer the bargains they could once have been. Everyone's wage expectations have gone mental.

The January window is really tough. Pretty sure we would have struggled to land players like Lang and Moxon ordinarily but I'm sure they saw the possibility of Championship football next season and it worked out.

The club have definitely gambled with the playing budget but our league position and poor January form did focus minds a bit.

We usually sign fairly well permanently in January ahead of the following season but we didn't this winter and it seems like that was intentional. There were suggestions in an interview with our CEO on deadline day that there could be some changes to wage/salary protocols coming in next season or the season after (presumably to do with the PL/EFL deal) and we were being mindful that might be the case and leaving room in the budget rather than getting caught and having to deal with a year or two of adjusting and snookering ourselves.

I think we decided (quite rightly) that we werent going up and unlikely to go down so got a few young loans in to add to Conteh, with the aim of sitting tight until the summer.
Looks like Matt Taylor will be well supported financially in the summer too. Unfortunately he broke Rotherham's transfer record twice and still got sacked so hope it spends it better here.

We have agreed to sign Dwight Gayle pending EFL approval - which sounds like it may be a real sticking point. If not we will play much of the remaining part of our season without a striker, which is a concern as shown yesterday Warne is liable to just park the bus and hope to grind out a result. Six defenders, two defensive midfielders, two wingers and one goalkeeper made up our starting XI.

Blackett Taylor has come in and warmed the physios table so it’s not as though we could give him a run out there either.

Fingers crossed the EFL approval comes through, because as unsure as I am about Gayle’s match fitness he’s a stark improvement on what we have currently and could make a difference for us in the last part of the season - whether it be in the automatic promotion race or otherwise.

What's happened to Collins?

Sounds like he's got knee ligament damage

Doesn’t sound he’s torn them, but very little news on it either way. Gayle has just been announced, I’m personally delighted as I think he’s a very clever striker and typically clever strikers have a lot of joy in this league of very daft defenders.

I haven’t seen him play for a while, but I’d assume he’s still very much ahead of Collins, Waghorn and Washington in terms of football ability.

We will need to adjust our play with him in the side but think this could be a very impactful signing.

We've signed Jack Simpson on a short term deal. Been a free agent since the summer after he was released by Cardiff for racially abusing his own team mate...

Whilst the incident is grim, I daresay he's paid the price for it. One slip of the tongue on holiday in Portugal and boom, out of the team, branded a racist, fine from the FA, now has to leave Cardiff and come slumming in League 1 with us.

Obviously not condoning the incident, but it's not exactly a Ched Evans scenario is it. I'm all for the second chance saloon.
(Plus he's played 11 games in the prem and won the SPL with Rangers so he's probably gonna be excellent at this level).

Not sure he played that much at Rangers though but still guess he was part of the squad .

Sounds like one of those stupid drunken incidents that people then soon regret as it ruins their career .

People often reveal themselves for what they really are after a few drinks. Him having it within himself to use those words says all you need to know.

Even more bizarre being that his partner at the time appears to be Asian as well.

Not sure how I feel about this, vile what he said, but does he deserve a second chance?

Omar Beckles is the chair of the PFA, so I feel like he would have had a big input as to whether we would give him a second chance or not.

He’s only played around 50 odd games of professional football at 27, so he can’t be great. Cardiff fans seems happy he was gone, not just because of what he said, but because he was crap for them. Also, he was given a 6 game ban for it, and that was whilst he was a free agent so I assume he’s also suspended atm.

Signed Lee Evans until the end of the season. If he's fit great signing. We are down to 2 central midfielders so gives us abit of cover

Looks like Evans was unlucky at Ipswich. He's had knee problems over the last year and a half culminating in surgery early this season.

Signed by Paul Cook but was still a key player under McKenna until injuries. Let go by Ipswich early Feb as they needed to trim the squad down to 25 players and he's out of contract in the summer.

We're desperately short in midfield with all the long term injuries so fingers crossed he can get back up to speed.

Well we have signed Connor Wickham out the blue. Presumably means Aneke is out for the season which is a huge shame. Jones’ system seems to favour a tall striker who can hold it up or knock it down so it makes sense. Nice to see us be proactive and got someone in

Jack Price confirmed to have signed by those ITK on our forum and will be announced tomorrow at 6:45pm before the game.

Hopefully it’s a two/three year deal and not a short term one as that’s a brilliant signing for this level. Price and Winchester in CM next season has good potential.
