Northampton fans - where you at with Crooks? Did he come down to your place to discuss terms this weekend?

Its all gone a bit quiet this end, not heard any news since we had the bid accepted.

Depends how much the undisclosed fee was. Anything under 300k is good business for you. He asked to leave because he got booed and jeered during a friendly, good player but mentally weak by the sounds of it.
I keep reading 180k on forums?

The rumors were going round for weeks, I'm personally thinking he was sat on the fence and that pushed him over the edge.

Let's see though, our fans are pretty critical too, however if liked they're treated as a god. It's up to him to make it or break it - let's see. I'd still like another striker though, Harrison, Gaffney and Nichols aren't world beaters - if we are really going to push, we need another quality striker.

Re. Crooks. Fans who speak to people who claim to be in the know, talk to other fans who aren't in the know, and they all say that its a done deal and is supposed to be happening today.

We've signed Billy Bingham on a 2 year deal. Know nothing about him really, but he has a good name.

Keeper Ryan Allsop signs for Blackpool on a season long loan. 3/4th choice here, made only a handful of appearances in the last few years, spending more time out on loan than he has actually here.

Thanks for the update guys. Crooks should turn out to be pretty decent for you. I would have liked to have seen him at Scunny. Liam Totter did not travel to our training camp in Austria. Bit of a rumour is that we are interested in another CM and he may join in with the team in Austria. With Crooks and Trotter not coming in and Dawson (to Bury) and Ness (to Plymouth) leaving we are light in CM.

How did Luke Williams do down in Northampton last season? He went out to get some game time after being injured and got injured and had to return to us. He is still injured! There are times when Williams shows Championship class and it was no wonder he was at M'boro. BUT, he is injury prone and lacks real consistency. It was no wonder M'boro let him go. I wish he could get fit, because he could be a talent at L1 level.

Someone's fucked up there. Oxford clearly didn't know Xavi Hernandez had retired so Barca just gave the closest they could

Ryan Allsop....[shudder]....came in on emergency loan for us when we ran out of keepers before last year's League Two play-offs. Didn't resemble a keeper in any way, shape or form in my honest opinion.

Williams looked good when he was on the pitch, but again injury was an issue here. Perfect sort of link man between the deeper midfielders and the strikers.

I shall see how he does, but Pep has worked with him before at UE Cornella and he played regularly in the Barca B team that got promotion last season in the Spanish 3rd tier which gives some cause for optimism. Suggests they are expecting Sheff Utd to come back with another bid for Lunny.

As for overall recruitment, we are clearly behind others although signing James Henry is encouraging. Unsure as to Tiendalli as he hasn't played for 2 seasons but has a good pedigree. We need another left back unless young Carroll is going to be used there, another winger and forward/no.10. We may still sign Mike Williamson depending if a suitable deal can be agreed. Apart from MW that is the minimum needed for me.

That's a cracking signing for Northampton.

Not bringing him in when we had the opportunity is a bigger blow to us than Dawson leaving.

Can only assume his Barcelona pedigree makes Xemi a cut above the nonsense all the lesser clubs are signing. Could well be looking at the makings of a Premiership midfield here.

I'd sell for a decent enough price to be honest. Scored a lot of goals in the second half of last season but most were penalties and tap ins - never known anyone as afraid of shooting which sounds a little odd but true. Likeable chap, but I'm not entirely sure what he adds to a midfield (other than the purple patch of goals). Start of last season when he was captain he was absolutely dire, it was only once Pennock came in that he started getting on the scoresheet with regularity.

Josh Wright is two Bob. That he is the gold standard in div 3 at time of writing shows just how poor this league is and how badly run us, and a fair few other sides in this division, are.

Oh god, Ryan Allsop. At least he actually has time to prepare and train with his squad for games now, so maybe he'll do alright, but that name gives me horrendous flashbacks..

We're interested in Scott Quigley and Oliver Hawkins now Nicholls has gone. Pompy are also interested in Hawkins so I expect we'll miss out on that one.

Is he the "goalkeeper" you had when we beat you in the play-offs the year before last? If so, you will note my use of inverted commas.

Edited:
Not that I am complaining, but it did feel at the time that we had an almost unfair advantage with ten versus eleven.
