I'd agree with most of this, all be it the 3-8th placed play off would be odd as essentially in 20 team leagues a mid table side could go up! Losing 8 games a season so 4 home games would hit income so would lean towards 22-22-22-22 system, 3 up, 3 down standard PO format.

The Pizza BSM Glass Paints Trophy pre season idea makes sense, Scotland does similar with their cup dont they?

Aye, scotland start with the league cup each season.

The thing with Gateshead has obviously been a colossal cock up but this time of the year is an annual reminder of how the national league playoff system is so much better than the EFL’s.

I’m surprised Sky haven’t insisted on some sort of change to get rid of crappy two leg games. Not to mention the fact that higher placed teams get next to naff all advantage in the EFL system.

I do and don’t agree with that, it’s been put in for non-league as only 1 side goes up, so it’s a great way of involving more teams for longer and improving the excitement, if you did it for league 2, 9th would end up in the playoffs which would be a bit farcical?

What's clearly better , and most important to me, is that it rewards the higher placed sides after a full season far better than the EFL playoffs. The EFL playoffs don't give enough of an advantage to the side that just misses out on the automatics. The NL structure is far fairer.

I'd say the playoff structure is the best thing about the National League #stained.

Your best season in over 20 years, our 2nd worst in nearly 30 and you took a few more. Congrats!

Aye in fairness you had a good 700 or so last season which was a class effort when you were down there, we won 2-0 without breaking much of a sweat but the fans stopped until the end and made some din.

Cheers mate, despite the fact we went to Kent in September well before the season finished, but I’ll let you off. Nailed down runners up with a near 1300 average in the Willy waving thread, hoping to get it in the other table too.

Tonight's Permutations:

L1
Cheltenham will be relegated with anything less than a win against Peterborough at home.

L2
Colchester will be confirmed as safe at Sutton's expense with a draw or win over Doncaster.

At the other end, if both Barrow and Donny get results tonight, then Walsall will officially be ruled out of PO contention.
A defeat for Bradford rules them out, a draw and a Donny draw also rules them out. So they need to beat Barrow and hope Donny lose to Col U to have any sort of chance.

NL
Ok the game's tomorrow, but we'll eliminate one of the NL PO teams as either Solihull or Halifax will fall short.

Apparently Peterborough are going to be making changes tonight so maybe a slight glimmer of hope for Cheltenham. Potentially Cambridge could be dragged in if they lose and Cheltenham win but even then they play us last day. Our players have barely given a shit all season so can’t see that changing for a dead rubber.

If we win tonight then regardless of what Donny do we are still in with a shout, we can currently get as high as 6th not 7th.

I've got a feeling this is going to be a really tight league next year. Premier League you can pretty much call the top 6 now, Championship will be the usual roundabout of relegated Premier teams going back up, League One will be ordered by finance as usual, but there's probably 12 teams on similar budgets and size, it could go any way to be honest.

But 9th would have to come through 2 away games and one at Wembley which is a big ask.

Tuned in to thr NL playoff between Solihull and Halifax out of a misplaced sense of nostalgia. Solihull 3-0 up please don’t let them up, proper Mickey Mouse set up.

Solihull might have rubbish facilities, but at least they can get home games on!

Halifax have been defensively pretty good all season, didn't see a battering coming if I'm honest.

Just turned it on. One look at Solihulls horrible ground has given me a nasty case of PTSD.

Some goal that. C’mon the Shaymen. Dunno what the crowd is for this but it looks shameful for a playoff game.

Plenty of people not a fan of Solihull and Bromley. What's so bad about 'em? Tinpot? Dirty?

That’ll do it for Solihull. Poor goal to concede by Halifax.

It’s certainly an erm interesting looking stadium Solihull have.

Solihull- poxy ground and no fans. Bromley dirty anti football with unpleasant manager. Two cheeks around the arsehole of non league.

With Barnet being a wanky away day theres now only Altrincham battling against the forces of evil in the NL playoffs.

Halifax very nearly equalised, then got gut punched at the other end. Not the result anyone wanted, but B2TF has been introducing himself to the L2 section over on the other place which does make this a bit funny.

Apart from Alty who are a club I have a lot of time for and will be an insane awayday, what an unappealing set of semi finalists ffs.
