Any team top of the league deserves their own match thread. :smug:
After being dumped out, unluckily, of both cups recently it's time to concentrate on the real job in hand, promotion from league 2. This Saturdays opposition have had a disappointing season. Had them down to push for promotion so bit of a surprise they are down the bottom. I suspect all is not well somewhere in the club. I'm sure they will try and raise their game for the challenge of facing the league leaders. Don't think it will be enough however as I fully expect our lads to be chomping at the bit to secure a win and push on in the race for promotion. I expect JJ to keep his place and Famewo to come in to the central defence after a very impressive performance against Peterboroughs first choice attack. A real prospect (another) in the making. If he makes the desired impact any movement in the transfer market for a CB might be put on hold. Looking forward to this game and strangely the cup defeats have given the club a lift due to how well we performed against higher league oppostion. The depth we have in our squad is frightning. If we manage to keep the squad intact at the end of the transfer window then that will be a huge plus. NJ could of course sell or loan out a couple without having any impact on our strength in depth.

We're going to fucking smash Luton on Saturday. -2 handicap market is 18/1 which is a tempter. I was looking for -3 but bet365 don't seem to be offering it. Shit these

We probably will lose as I'm going. Only been to 4 away games so far this season - 3 losses, 1 draw, conceded 8, scored only 1 (0 in the 3 league games) :brill:

Didn't actually realise Chesterfield had a new stadium since the last time we visited until I googled pub options nearby. Stadium itself looks like one of those awful identikit out-of-town ones which is a shame. The train I was planning on getting was meant to be going via Nottingham, not sure how that will be affected by the fire. Might be a late call to drive up instead.

Football-wise, hope we get to see Akin Famewo get his richly deserved chance in a league game partnering Mullins. That would mean Rea could resume his defensive midfield role where he's been excellent this season (Port Vale calamity aside). JJ edging Stacey for right back still. I'd probably keep Stech in but could see an argument for dropping him, that's a tough call, keepers are always a difficult one as dropping them doesn't tend to help confidence issues. Rest of the team picks itself.

If you go up East Midlands Train via Leicester you shouldn't have too many problems. I checked on the way home. All trains East Midlands Parkway backwards should be running OK.

Their stadium is great to be fair, really nice easy to find and we got parked easily down a side street near a park.
The away end generates a teriffic noise too and I'm expecting you'll take a load and make some good noise.

I expect we've sold not far off 1,500 if not more because it was made all-ticket later in the week. Pretty easy to get to as you say; the trains look OK this morning and pretty much straight up the motorway.

Think Jonesy will keep faith with Marek Stech despite his confidence crisis recently, although I think he needs a break away from it. I think Akin has to play after his performance on Tuesday night. I'd go with this team:

GK James Shea
RB James Justin
LB Dan Potts
RCB Johnny Mullins
LCB Akin Famewo
DM Glen Rea
RCM Luke Berry
LCM Olly Lee
AM Andrew Shinnie
CF James Collins
CF Danny Hylton

Subs: Marek Stech, Pelly Ruddock, Jack Stacey, Lawson D'Ath, Harry Cornick, Jordan Cook, Elliot Lee

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's bang next to the town centre and surrounded by boozers. The ground itself carries a good atmosphere, does good local pies and a local micro brewery on sale.

Agree with that line up. Would like to see Akin given his chance. I expect Cornick to be involved at some point. If we do bring around 1500 fans then its a terrific effort after the amount of money the fans spent at the Newcastle match (weekend). I think some of the hangovers are still yet to clear completetly.
Interested to know what Chesterfield fans make of their new (newish) stadium. Difficult to replace the atmosphere of terraces but how is it compared to other similar stadiums. One of the demands from our own fans about Power Court is to create a stadium which will still enable us to maintain a decent atmosphere. Something that a lot of new stadiums have failed to deliver.

Famewo gets his chance then, interesting to see how he goes. Bigger news perhaps is no Hylton even in the squad today.

No doubt will spark questions on if he is leaving, but with all the illness seemingly going around at the moment i wouldnt mind betting its more to do with that!

Interested to see how Lee and Collins work together, dont think they have been paired together too much this season.

I don't for one second believe we'd se Hylton even for a ridiculous price. Injured or ill, no chance we sell until the summer.

Outplayed and thought. Toothless and lacked creativity. Happening too often. Well played Chesterfield. Didn't look a t relegation side to me

Thought the penalty was soft but you'e seen them given. More annoying was the blatant shove against Elliot Lee not given 30 seconds before which involved far more contact and the ref waved away. Had that been given the penalty never happens.

Ultimately it's irrelevant though as we were awful and could have been there all night and not scored. Don't think we even got in to a shooting position never mind threatened the keeper second half. Complete lack of leadership and nous today.

Wasn’t able to follow the game today so just seen the result. Dear oh dear, given the respective positions at the start of today that’s a genuinely awful result for us. Catching up on reports we seem to have been awful.

Bit concerning really, second away league game in a row now where have had an “off day”. You don’t get to many of those and get away with it.

Still typical Luton though, think we all thought something shitty must be around the corner, things have been going far too swimmingly!

After mocking jack letter in recent weeks I'll doff my cap and say well done.

To beat the worlds biggest club as well.... Great result

Definitely a soft as shit penalty after seeing the clip but we were due one, especially thinking back to the Swindon one in the 94th minute.

We played well today, thoroughly deserved the win. I'm sure we'll fall back in line next week though when Yeovil dick us 3-0.

That was so bad for so many reasons, I don't know where to start. It was a shocking performance. I didn't see the Port Vale game, admittedly, but that was the worst performance I've seen from us this season.

Port Vale was worse but only marginally. Difference was that Chesterfield didn't have a Tom Pope or it could have been another battering today.

Blimey, wasn't expecting that.

Dicked four nowt in the last game by Accy. A virtually untried defence. Top scorer out injured. Morale at rock bottom. We generally ship goals for fun and the free scoring league leaders are in town...

Result? 2-0 to us and we put in pretty much our best display of the season. You've got to love Football.

The away end generates a teriffic noise too and I'm expecting you'll take a load and make some good noise.

They brought a few. Pity the acoustics never got tested out though, I think they ended up just talking amongst themselves after 20 minutes.
