Genuinely don't believe that seeing 2,000 as opposed to 200 will give a player a boost. They should want to win every game.

Our recent history goes against that.

4K twice to Hillsborough in last two seasons and came away with a good point and a win with a simarlily limited squad.

3k and 2k to Leeds in last two seasons both with worse squads than now and again a good pint and a win.

Fast forward to this season 700 to Hillsborough which is absolutely pathetic (don't care what anyone says) and we lose for the first time there in 30 years and then get battered by Leeds a couple of weeks later with a pitiful 200+.

Fans 100% make a difference.

You got very unlucky after a good performance at Wednesday. Leeds haven't been this good for a very long time and your team is fucking wank, is it any surprise you got battered?

Did we really? Wednesday could and should have bagged 4.

First half we should have gone in ahead at Leeds.
Second half when lads need a bit of support and encouragement from our fans, they got what they could from 200 fans outnumbered by 30k and fell apart.

Why have Leeds been shite for years then.

Leeds fans have directed their energy into trying to get rid of various owners and managers instead of spurring their side on for years.

With a takeover looming (i know it's happened but only today) a manager they all want to get behind and a half decent side, they're going a long way to help prove my point.

You sound like you respect footballers far more than any decent working man should , it's down to them to perform not us in the stands. You're teams just not very good this year it's irrelevant how many fans are there. You brought 5k to us and lost to our kids so your argument doesn't add up.

What about villas huge numbers this year then why do they only have 1 away win?

Oh yes can remember now. Another season in the championship for you lot unless you sort the away form out won't it?. Not always a bad thing though build a stronger squad to get promoted with

Bit late to the party but for what it's worth I don't really go along with judging fans who won't pay £36 for a local game with a small travel cost against a small ticket price with a large travel cost. It's about being taken for mugs and feeling as though you're being ripped off. For example, if our neighbours charged us £40 I would refuse to go despite the fact I could probably get the bus to there for a couple of quid. If Newcastle were to charge us £25 and it cost me £70 on the train I'd happily pay it despite the total spend being more than double, the ticket price would be good value and travel cost is a complete separate issue.

I totally agree with the (seemingly) majority of the Rotherham fans.

I think that boat has sailed regardless. We're going nowhere this season. I, and a fair few other Villans, said the same at the start though, play-offs or just outside would be an alright season, then build up to promotion next. Considering we managed only 17 points last season, a season of consolidation will do nicely.

I do respect some of our lads, know a couple personally and know how much the support from fans affects them, positively and negatively.

But let's be reyt here. The atmosphere in this country is absolutely piss poor. The only time there is any is if the players are performing on the pitch. I honestly don't think fans make any difference at all and certainly don't start making the players play better.

Fans turning up has fuck all to do with results as a whole. The odd game it may make a difference. Look at Newcastle and Sunderland for home crowds and also Leeds away support. We have 3 away wins in 17 months of football and we take good numbers. If you have a decent team who work hard you will get results regardless of how many away fans turn up and how loud they are.

1660 for our midweek game at Brentford end of the month has sold out.

At the end of the day it's a combination of the two. If your team is giving 100% and the fans get behind them you have a chance. If your team don't give a f**k and the fans get on their back you have no chance. As a Villa fan I get fed up with the fickle fans that most clubs have. For people to be calling for Bruce's head already just sums up the modern game. We are an average team in a tough league and have no right to go straight up. What the club needs is players who will give their all for the shirt and a set of supporters who will back them through thick and thin. When we get this we have a chance of returning to the Premier League.

Newcastle took 8k to Blackburn and lost..

Personally I think it's more important as to how loud the fans are rather than the numbers themselves.

Kind of agree with both sides of the argument, players earn points not fans, but being backed by say 4k away fans must give players a boost rather than walking out and seeing a couple of hundred. Sure we all been to games where you can feel a goal coming (either for or against) obviously this is down to what happens on the pitch, but also the noise levels and sheer passion of fans sometimes ( by no means always) have a massive effect on the outcome of games. Remember going to Bramhall Lane and leading 1-0 United had a bit of pressure the noise levels lifted massively I knew they would score, they did, noise levels lifted even more, knew another was coming it did we ended up losing 3-1. Has happened in our favour a few times too, last year's playoff semi final against Brighton being a prime example. (Shame it didn't work in final). Would agree overall that a big noisy supportive following must give players a lift on some occasions.
Ps Walkley when you posting latest figures?

Odd that Villa didn't appear to update the official website with sales information for Brentford. Only knew it was going on sale through the grapevine. Website was typically faulty but managed to get one when they went on sale 5pm yesterday - no option to select terrace tickets but the away scheme members were given the upper tier so hopeful that i'll have a standing ticket.

We're apparently a few hundred short of selling out the 2900 allocation at Spurs on Sunday, so over the course of thirteen days will have taken over 10,000 away (Wolves 4200 & Cardiff 3300). Quite remarkable given the away form you've cited and the fact that we're absolutely diabolical to watch. No novelty factor in any of those either.

Only game we'll take a poor following to now is Newcastle in Feb which is a Monday night. Looking forward to 5k+ at Wigan, unofficially 7k at Fulham, and 7k at Blackburn. Could be a good second half to the season if Bruce buys anything that resembles a midfield this Jan.

Brentford is a local game for you isn't it? Would of fancied it but can't make midweek games. Yeah not sure Spurs will sell out as there is no interest in that game from our lot and we've been there countless times. Plus it's late Sunday afternoon on tv. Our support has been class this season and your right about the Newcastle game although I still think we will manage about 1500. Maybe more if we pick up our form. I'm going wolves next weekend.

I've got the chance of a free lift to Leeds next Friday, so my only outlay will be £37 on a ticket.

I went to Fulham before Christmas, spent £25 on ticket, £37 on trains, and about £55 on beer and food through the day. Around £115.

Going to West Brom this weekend. Ticket is £15, train is £17, about £40 on beer and food. Around £70 then.

So for me, it's not the cost of the away day, it's the principle of paying some odious and dodgy foreign owner of a club I don't particularly like (see also Forest) £37 that is the deal breaker for me.

Actually, to be honest, £37 whatever the club for a match ticket is going to be a deal breaker. It's just plain wrong.

Derby charge away fans £36 .

I'm sure we do, in some instances. Doesn't mean I agree with it.

I would suggest most of our tickets are less than £30 apart from the more attractive games. Reading are being charged £22, Burton £25.50. And we offer discounts for bulk purchases, so 4 Burton fans going together (difficult to reconcile I know) will be charged £20.40 each.

We do the same. I think your rotherhams of this world get charged £25 then the bigger clubs £35. Personally I don't think it's fair but it is what it is. We charged £41 in the prem which was ridiculous.

We rob whoever we can, including our own supporters. The crowds so far this season are holding up remarkably well, but I still believe it is a very short sighted way of doing business and without genuine success very soon, will come back to haunt the club.

Yeah nice easy train from Victoria so can leave work a bit early and get in a pub before they're packed. I'll be home by 11 after the game. Sunday'll be a struggle for Villa / Spurs / Chelsea / Peterborough fans if the planned tube strike goes ahead. Will take me nigh-on 2 hours to get home - madness given i'm in north london.

I seem to remember a 2200 allocation at Newcastle over the past few seasons so hopefully come close to shifting that. Thankfully tickets will be cheap and we've a couple of weeks respite either side with Forest on 4th Feb and Rotherham on 4th March; our next Saturday 3pm away game - the last one being 1st October at Preston!

Where are you at Wolves? The normal allocation on the side of the pitch, or behind the goal?

I'm surprised we are close to selling out Spurs as there is no interest at all for that game. I can't be arsed wasting my Sunday down there.

Last season at Newcastle we had 1900 there on tv week before xmas. Season before that 2500 on a Saturday and the year before we had 1800 on a Sunday morning on tv. We took 1500 to Norwich midweek, on tv and a week before xmas with expensive tickets so I'd be surprised if it's much less than that. Newcastle will be cheaper too but we have played them for years so it's not a new ground. A few wins should see us hit 2k.

In the corner mate . Was in there for the friendly game last season and tbf it's better than being at the side.
