Must be mad but I'm travelling down for this one. Got to be in bath late afternoon so using it to break up the journey and tick another ground off.

Things are looking up in the last 2 games while not getting the rub of the green. New players have made a difference and I reckon we could get summat here.

2-1 tics

Can't take anyone lightly, especially at this early stage in the season. If we play like we did for much of the game on Saturday we could well find ourselves losing tomorrow.

Goalkeeping situation will be interesting with Slocombe suspended and Smith likely still injured, leaving young Andre Alexis to surely start in goal. Did very well when he came on for his debut and will hopefully have gained a lot of confidence from that.

Team: Lines probably injured so will likely go 4-4-2. However if Sinclair back I'd stick with 4-3-3.

-------------------Andre---------------------
Partington-Sweeney-Lockyer-Brown
Bodin---Sercombe---Clarke---Nichols (Moore is wank, would rather play Nichols on the left)
----------Harrison----Gaffney-------------

Confident of a win, as I always am for home games. 3-1.

4-4-2 is exactly why I was frustrated that we didn't bring in a left midfielder. I can't see him going for Nichols in a four. Hope i'm wrong, as as you said, Moore is completely useless.

Obviously the nervousness come in the GK situation. This will be his only proper start in adult football and although he seems to have potential it seems hard to suss if he'll be ready, I expect Oldham to test him and test him early. Feel we need an improvement on Saturday, despite the win.

Still don't know how Byron Moore is in League One. Even when we were respectable in League One (2012-13 season) Davis kept panning him for not scoring enough goals and not creating enough chances. How he's stayed in the division since he left us in 2014 is beyond belief because he's such a one trick pony.

That said, I thought Billy Bodin was one of the worst ever loan signings we made in our promotion season (2011-12) and now look at him go...

I reckon we'll win and win comfortably. With regards to left midfield, if DC goes with a 4-4-2 Sercombe could slot in there. Not his best position but he's played there before.
It's such a Bristol Rovers thing to do,signing 2 decent goalkeepers and being without both of them:lol:

Not confident about this one.

Our 2 first team keepers are both out and we only have a young, inexperienced, lightweight lad to play between the sticks. Did okay when thrown on with 30 to go on Saturday but looked understandably nervous and will be even more so for Oldham as he'll have much longer to think about his full debut.

We're also missing J.Clarke, Lines and Sinclair which will limit our options in midfield.

Lets face it we were second best against Wallsall and were fortunate to come away with all 3 points.

People will be looking at Oldham's position in the league and expecting a win but as DC said in his interview they're a different beast now.

They made a number of very impressive signings before the deadline which have already made an impact and seen them score 5 goals in their last 2 games against very good L1 sides. They were seconds away from winning at Fleetwood before an injury time penalty.

Honestly wouldn't be too disappointed with a draw as long as we don't throw a lead away late on.

With your upturn in form and Bristol Rovers being a very poor team I think you could be about right with your prediction...already a relegation 6 pointer to my mind.

Came into it once the rain calmed down. We are making this pitch look tiny we can't find space anywhere.

Not much to write home about really our best chance was off the crossbar which davies knew nothing of.

Can't break you down on the 18 yard line but good to see us try the through ball it's the weather for it.

Silly game with a fucking ludicrous end. I won't moan too much because we've done it to enough teams over the last couple of years:lol:
What Gaffney needs to do to start regularly I don't know. Provides a focal point and a presence that others can thrive from.
Ah well, we go again UTG

Ref was an embarrassment at the end. The Oldham bloke was lying on the ball. Should have been an indirect free-kick to us in the box. Drop ball was a joke of a decision.
To come back from 2-0 down and still lose is pretty awful. Still, felt we deserved to lose on the whole.
Oldham fans were class tbf.

What is so strange and so funny about my comment. I predicted Oldham would win because Bristol Rovers are a very poor team. I was correct...nothing strange or funny there then?

Absolutely dominated the first half - we just needed to up the pace in the final 3rd. Oldham were there for the taking which we didn't do.

2nd half Oldham looked better but we were just dreadful. No creativity in attack. It's so frustrating because the 2 times we actually tried to score, we did. At the same time, the 3 times Oldham really tried to score, they did. 2 poor teams last night, a draw would have been fair as it was a game of 2 halves.

We're in for a long tough season. We've been riding a wave of momentum last season but I see a midtable finish (at best) coming for us. No disrespect intended, but we shouldn't be losing at home to Oldham. I've watched every game this season and our lack of quality is starting to shine through. When we really push at our max, we only just win the game through good tactics and strong effort. But if we're not pushing 100% we get spanked and concede goals all over the pitch. Every team (apart from Bury) have had better individual players than us (except Bodin & Sercombe) and the only thing that has shone through is good tactics and effort. Generally, the way players pass the ball, their first touch and movement is way ahead of ours.

Dunno whether you're just pissed off about last night but that's going a bit far. We've blown hot and cold this season but we have quality in the squad. I'd argue we have a far better squad than last season but perhaps it's taking a while to settle down. For the past few seasons we've had a fairly settled core and this is the season we've broken from it for various reasons. Give it a bit of time ( we owe DC that) and things will start to come together ( I do wish he'd start Gaffney a bit more mind )

Tbh, I've thought it for a while. I think as a team we've play well, have good chemistry and we have an excellent manager. I just think man for man, we don't have much quality.

Sercombe/Smith: Not seen enough tbf. Sercombe looks an average L1 keeper. I'm happy with that.
Leadbitter: Not good enough
Parlington: Good player, not one of the best in the league, but a good L1 player.
Lockyer: Good player, again not one of the best. Needs the correct man next to him though.
Sweeney: Not our player, looked one of the better last season. Struggled this year.
Broadbent: Too early to say.
Brown: Decent player & great servant to the club. Lower league 1 quality imo.
Sinclair: Runs is heart out, but lacks quality. I'd happily keep him in the squad though.
Lines: Blows hot & cold. Typical midtable L1 midfielder
Sercombe: Looks excellent tbf. Very happy.
Clarke: Good mid table league 1 player.
Moore: Dreadful (although last night he actually wasn't bad)
Bodin: Excellent player.
Gaffney: I like Gaffney, think he works hard. Good mid table league 1 player.
Harrison: Hot & Cold. Average league 1 player.
Nicholls: Looks like he has quality but yet to score, considering he's started nearly every game. Hard to tell with him.
Telford: Not our player, would love to see more of him, but DC doesn't seem to want to play him?

So all in all, apart from 2 players, at best we have an average league 1 squad. With this "top 6" budget nonsense I fail to see real quality throughout the team. It's just my opinion though, i'd be curious to hear fellow gasheads' thoughts on the above.

Agree with much of what you've said Gassy.

Don't rate Smith as a keeper at all. Possibly worse than Roos. Slocombe is okay but nowhere near as good as Lumley.

Leadbitter has been awful and is a real confidence player. Unfortunately when he's bad he's a liability.
Partington is decent but very slow. Defintely a better option than Leadbitter at the moment though.
Lockyer has been average by his standards and Sweeney has been poor.
Brown hasn't done much wrong and assisted in 4 goals so no real problems there.

We're shipping far too many goals even against very average sides so something is clearly not right at the back.

Slightly disagree with regards to midfield because I think Lines and O.Clarke have been very poor this season and really struggling to get anywhere near the form they showed last year. That is leading to us being overrun in the midle of the park. Sercombe has looked quite good but not really a creative player.

We have no left winger to speak of. Moore had an okay first half but if you have to play him on the right to get an acceptable performance it's not worth it because Bodin is not effective on the left. Bodin is our main goal threat and the only creative player in the squad.

We don't have any strikers you'd expect to get 15-20 goals. Both Gaffney and Harrison are inconsistent and have weaknesses in their game. Nichols looks a tidy player but we're 10 games in and he's yet to score.

I agree, I think it's going to be a long hard season.

My main point on Lines & Clarke wasn't purely based on this season, just an overall view of their rating as players. I agree with what you say about them both this year though.

Glad to hear im not completely going kukoo and pessimistic.

It's a real shame about Leadbitter, he was one of my favourite players too!

Tbh considering how shite we have been I can't say I noticed one rovers player last night who I thought I would want in an oldham shirt.

Our problems came from the weather especially the wind in the first half. Don't know how big your pitch is but you made it seem so small closing us down quickly. That's down to work ethic than quality though.

The new boys for us look better every week. We have gone from having the weekest midfield for the first few games to one of the strongest. Byrne and Bryan look the dogs we are just shipping too many at the other end

I don't agree with these assessments. Our form is patchy but I don't accept our players aren't good enough. Nichols hasn't been given long enough for a fair assessment ( a certain Matty Taylor was written off iirc) Gaffney provides summat different to the team and allows us to play further up the pitch. Lockyer and Sweeney are both decent players and will come good. In midfield Ollie is still learning but has excellent attributes and will only get better whilst I reckon it's a bit lazy and unfair to describe Sincs as only a grafter. Sercombe looks better than what we've had. A run of patchy form will not convince me our players aren't suddenly good enough.
We'll be top half again, having a peek at the playoffs and tbh that's fair enough for me.

I have no obsessions whatsoever. After watching Posh thrash Rovers earlier in the season, I consider them to be a very poor team that is all. Results are not really proving me wrong so far and it is obviously likely to get worse.

I do not know what a 'gurt massive' is.
