Honestly can't see Southgate rejecting it, why stay with the U21s of offered the full side job? No logical reason at all.

Reason he's rejecting is because he knows he'll get no respect from the players or the public and will eventually get sacked and probably never get another noteworthy job in football for a long while. Smart move from him.

Capello tried to do that and didn't get the support of the players.

After all he banned vital things like tomato ketchup which upset the likes of Paul Robinson and Phil Jagielka..

Then we wonder why our players look totally devoid of tactical know how when it matters..

I suppose the difference is that, in theory, the FA should already have the infrastructure in place to see us doing much better in competitions, whereas 12 years ago, Germany didn't. Klinsmann seemingly played a big part in the changes.

On the flip side, the reviews he is getting from people across the pond are not so positive.

That oft-stated stat about us having about 3,000 qualified coaches compared to Spain and Germany's 30-odd thousand must be something to do with that, and that's partly explained by the prohibitive costs of actually taking the courses. We just don't make it easy for people to take up.

It's also hard to imagine an Englishman with a modest playing career becoming a successful manager; unlike Mourinho, Wenger, Benitez, Villas-Boas or *googles* Sampaoli. Not sure why that is - maybe English clubs are particularly sceptical environments?
