I think I speak for every U's fan when I say Luke Hannant is probably the best bit of business the club did make during the summer. From what I can gather, the same could be said for Amoo, as the Vale fans do seem to rate him highly. So far so good then; it's not that common an occurrence that this sort of thing happens after all.

So onto the upcoming match at Vale Park then, and I sure am interested in the way the two sides will set up, seeing that both are coming off the back of a heavy defeat. I had an inkling that Grimsby would get the win but I never expected Vale to ship in 5 goals. OTOH, about the only good thing that I can say for last night's 6-0 humiliation at Swansea is that I expect only 3 or 4 players from that line up to start the match at VP. Could even be as few as 2 players as the club is about to announce a new signing*.

We never seem to do well at Vale so I'm going for a 2-1 defeat.

*my money's on Elliott Ward.

Hopefully have a player or two in for this but imagine we will go the same as before as we were in the main excellent in the games up until Saturday and with Monty almost certainly back the midfield issues evident Saturday should be cured as Wozza will go in there.

Need to win this really as September is horrific on paper with Newport A, Plymouth H Exeter A Mansfield H to follow.

Think we’ve an excellent home record against Cambridge down the years so will go for a 2-1 with Amoo and Bennett

We’re gonna smash them 4-0. The Vale are going to be on the receiving end of two shite defeats this week. ;-)

I am a big fan of Amoo, but yes Hannant has been outstanding.

We seem to have a a lot of players competing for places. I'm presuming we'll go with 3 centre backs again. Jones, Carruthers, maybe Jabo could be options, I'm guessing it's too soon for Knoyle.

We keep conceding stupid goals from set peices, so I'm predicting a 2-1 loss.

I'm thinking we might bounce back after last week. Too many weren't on it last week and I can't see that happening again.

We look better on a bigger pitch, so I'm hoping we up our performance. Montano back should move Worrall back and help our performance.

Amazed that you rate hannant so highly. He worked pretty hard but has very little ability or end product, I guess this is the level we are at.

Hannant worked hard and fans love that, he wasn’t bad but well who knows why he was released? It was slightly surprising but we needed pace and power going forwards, we’ve got a better version of Hannant on the other flank in Worrall so needed that balance and there was a bad dressing room which Askey mentioned.

Amoo is going to be a favourite. Scored a couple so far and adds what we’ve been desperate for. Wingers have generally enjoyed their best times at Vale Park due to the massive wide pitch we have. Myrie-Williams and Vincent tore league two apart in 2012-13 both been shit everywhere else! Hopefully Amoo can thrive here.

As for the game.... Grimsby was very out the blue, our last home game was one of the best performances in years with some of our play but highlighted the lack of depth currently with Monty out along with Oyeleke. Thankfully Monty was just concussion so should return. If we can match the levels of the FGR performance we should fancy our chances against most at this level... on the flip side play like we did second half Saturday we will get a hiding most weeks!

Hopefully Grimsby was a bad day at the office and a week off has given us chance to freshen up.

Wonder if either loan signing will get done in time for this? A striker and defender from League One but no idea who!

From the little I've seen, Hannant has a wand of left foot. He's put some lovely deliveries in so far, at a consistency I'm not used to. And we all love a grafter don't we?!

We could really do with Amoo, though. Only player I was a little gutted to see leave, he doens't appear to stick around anywhere for long.

Not expecting a win, but Colin will want to get back to clean sheets asap, particularly after the drumming we received mid-week.

Hannant has certainly been one of our best players so far and his versatility is an added bonus. I expect him to play left wing back tomorrow.

I would have loved us to keep Amoo and played him down the middle as he's intelligent with his runs and can finish. He just struggles to play 90 mins week in week out.

As for "Monty" having concussion. I thought the standard protocol for that type of injury was 2-3 weeks these days?

Was a big shock to me that Hannant was released. Made the step up from non league comfortably and a virtual ever present under both Aspin and Askey.

More than happy with Amoo though so it's good to see both sets of fans are happy.
Apparently Carruthers is a quality signing but reckon he'll be on the bench for them.
I'll be boring and say 1-1 but really as VF16 says because of September we need to win

Hannant left because he apparently had some off field problems and Askey doesn’t stand for anything like that. He’s an alright player and I’d have liked to see him stay but he isn’t a winger or a wing back. He’s an obvious central midfielder and he would have fit nicely with the way Askey likes to play.

We could do with at least a point tomorrow to keep us ticking over a bit.

Not sure what our starting 11 will be. Hoping Manny is fit but I don’t think anything has been mentioned so far this week about him so can’t see it.

I like hannant, he tries, can beat a man, and scored a couple for us.
Never really a game changer for us though, and as mentioned a few off the field issues.
I see we’ve flung a bit more shit at the wall today, hoping some sticks, our recruitment is perplexing to say the least.
2 potential mid table sluggers slugging it out?
Drab draw.

Can't imagine Calderwood is too fond of off field shenanigans either. Maybe he just looks hard, who knows.

Anyway, 3-0 defeat.

Not sure what to expect in this, calderwood likes to mix it up so I’ll expect changes, interested to see who Carruthers comes in for as it would be harsh on either Lewis or O’Neil who both have had a decent start, good for once to have the competition.

I’ll go for 1-1

Frustrating half so far, had the majority of the play but Monty is crossing like he’s still concussed and we are not doing anywhere near enough despite getting into good positions.

Cambridge aren’t offering a lot but look a danger on the break.

Games there for the taking if we can up it.

Christ, If you lot think Luke Hannant is good I can’t even begin to imagine how average Amoo is after hearing Vale fans sing praises about him. Two clubs that grind out results bloated with proper average players, respect to be fair.

Works that way when you have an outstanding academy on a low budget and play your own players. Luke Hannant is utter shit, met him a few times on nights out and he told me he wanted to sign for Crewe (genuinely, while he played for you). Obviously he isn’t any where near good enough.

Ground that one out. In a way the perfect response after letting in five last week.

We were pretty poor today, but fortunately Cambridge were worse. Clearly Cambridge came for the 0-0 today as evidenced by putting the ancient Marc Richards upfront and quite a lot of spoiler fouls to break up play. Having said that, they missed an absolute sitter after we scored.

We didn't play with enough tempo and everything slows through Joyce and conlon. They both want too much time and it results in the other team being set. I thought we huffed and puffed without really taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

Amoo always looked like the biggest threat for both sides and a bit of magic made the goal. Although Hannant had a fairly decent game, I know who I would rather have in my team.

As an aside, the referee was appalling for both sides. He didn't seem to have a basic grasp of the rules! So many interruptions and he should have got cards out much earlier.

On another point, what's the deal with your keeper Cambridge fans? He looked shaky and must have kicked about 10 times straight out of play. Looks dodgy to me.

Just typical Crewe arrogance really, haven’t heard a peep for about eight years then a half decent start and they are piping up again.

Only three points behind this Brazil 70 reincarnation... and lost less.

Anyway back now so onto the game.

Was an ugly one, a far cry from the footballing show against FGR.

Cambridge fancied themselves for a point at best and sat back looking on the break mostly but Brown hasn’t made a save today which is pleasing.

Bennett had a decent game, he’s claiming the goal but can’t see on the replay, Amoo with the magic though and it was going in as soon as Bennett challenged their lad so forced it either way.

Cambridge should of scored but thankfully for once we’ve been let off our defensive switch off whereas in other games we’ve lost a deserved three points from it I.e Salford and Cobblers!

Thought Cambridge looked better than the last two visits, although they weren’t too bad first half last season until Miller scored. Kept the ball well enough but lacked any really quality up front and seemed a bit shakey at times at the back but had something about them.

Our fitness levels looked very good again as we’ve come on strong late on but I fancy both sides will improve on their positions last season.

Tough month now ahead, although Plymouth have shown they are beatable away and Mansfield are having a poor start but if we can come out of September with 15 points on the board then maybe we can start to feel really positive about the future.
