So, we've been pretty poor so far this season (W2 L3) (bar one good half against Cambridge). We've only won 4 games in 2018 and we are completely reliant on our home form as we haven't won away at all in 2018. We've got very little pace in the side or creativity and one of the best strikers in the division is reliant on scraps.

Our defence has improved a little but when you offer very little threat then when you do concede it is very difficult to get back into games. We desperately miss Manny in midfield and I hope he is back this weekend. We may also see Ben Whitfield in the side as we are supposed to be signing him - at the very least he will offer more creativity and pace.

I'm not sure about Newport. On the face of it they have had a very good start and got a great result at Exeter. They seem to be stronger at home and Amond is a good player. They'll give us a very tough game for sure and we have more pressure on our home games because we can't get a win away.

A couple of wins in a row and things will look rosy again but a couple of defeats and we'll be right in the deep stuff. I just hope we go with an attacking intent at home because we need teams to worry more about our threats. I'll go for an optimistic score draw 1-1.

Tricky one this, Newport have had a decent start although their home form has been key to that.

Whilst our away form is a concern we've actually only lost three times in the league at Vale Park since mid November so thats a plus but unless we sort the away out it is keeping the pressure on us to get results at home!

If Manny is back I fancy us to win, if not it will be difficult unless Ben is match fit when he signs and Hannant could go in the middle with Ben out wide?

Hopefully we can get a win then the start to the season looks positive. Lose and unrest may follow and pressure crank on Aspo.

Another tough away trip this weekend. Will gladly take a draw.
Made a good start to the season especially as we've had some tricky fixtures in August, 10 points from 15 ain't too shabby.
Ultimately I think our small squad size will take its toll. The first choice starting XI will now give anyone a game in L2 and we have some depth on the bench but a squad of 20 pros will sooner or later suffer from injuries and suspensions. So need to do a Morecambe and get the points on the board early doors.
Flynny should have a full compliment to select from despite GY's rough-house tactics last weekend.
1-1 Amond.

More positive than I was at lunchtime after the two signings. Whitfield gives us the pace and ability going forward, on his day he can be unplayable.

The Blackburn lad I know little about but is a box to box midfielder so covers us if Manny isn’t fit to allow us a more attacking 4-4-2 line up.

Brown

Montano
Legge
Rawlinson
Gibbons

Whitfield
Manny/The new signing
Joyce
Hannant

Miller
Pope

Looks much better that and more balanced.

Surely at home we will go four at the back and Rawlinson isn’t the answer at right back.
That clark can play right back so id play him there. Smith is garbage not tall enough too slow and spends all game tugging players shirts its no coincidence that he played all games in his first season with us we got relegated he played all games last season we concede lots and only stay up by 1 point he misses 1 game we win and keep a clean sheet but he gets put straight back in the team and we start losing and concedeing stupid goals again.

Another week another formation!

Back to 4 at the back with it either 4-4-1-1 or 4-2-3-1!

Smith dropped along with Miller and Kay,

Hardcastle debuts along with Dodds and Worrall.

Gives us more energy, would rather Whitfield was in for his pace mind but may not be fully fit after a few weeks without a club.

Played well and probably should be a goal or two ahead having hit the post and had a few decent efforts on goal.

Frustrating to get behind and a bit unlucky with the deflected shot dropping at their lad but responded well scoring and hitting the post within a minute.

Newport look ok going forward but woeful at the back, if we can keep exposing that and be clinical we’ve got a chance of the win but need to be wary of them on the break and set pieces.

Awful dive just before half time caused something to go off in the technical area.

Absolute sickner. Should of had six and got hit with a sucker punch. Awful referee, yet another big decision we should of got, hit the woodwork twice. Absolutely mugged, just one of those where it just wouldn’t go in.

Newport are a piss poor outfit its laughable there 2nd in the divison they have used all there luck up for the season and there away following numbers are shit. All we will get yet again is no points and a letter through the post about 3 weeks after the game yet again saying sorry we got it wrong. Untill we start getting these results in our favour which we wont cos we are port vale then we are going get relegated.

Don’t think we will go down and play as we did today and we win more than we lose.

It was one of them days really, both their goals were lucky in that they are both ricochets, 99 times out of 100 that second goal is a goal kick when their lad charges it down.

Penalty is annoying as it’s the fourth time in five games, we’ve had three apology letters for the Lincoln penalty, the Carlisle one and the one we didn’t get last week so we certainly are not getting the rub of the green!

As I said we had five or six real chances when we should score, the two hit the post which you just knew then wasn’t going to be our day.

Newport were poor defensively but assume they are better at home to get some good results but they had a couple of decent attacking players.

Their right back was absolutely awful (think he was the guy actually who scored the second goal!) but Monty went past him like he wasn’t there first half and he got murdered second half! He was so slow, they sort out their defence though they may sustain a decent challenge over the season.

Thought their following was ok to be fair, they are not a big club for this level so about standard so don’t think it was bad at all... apart from signing that annoying Liverpool song (that they nicked of Napoli!)

I’ve been annoyed with our performances recently but can’t fault them today. Played worse and won this season already.

We have to start getting a settled formation and personnel though as changing it week in week out isn’t ideal.

If i was a newport fan id be embarassed claim that as a win. I think i call games fairly and we deserved at least a draw. If the referees are going carry on being against us then we might aswell not bother now.

Was it much different to our win against Crawley though when the boot was on the other foot?

On a side note and a positive one at that... congratulations to Thomas Pope, born Vale.. supports the Vale and now record goalscorer at Vale Park with his 56th goal at the Wembley of the North.

Great to have a legend who supports the club and having broken multiple records for this club is a phenomenal achievement.

Up there now with the likes of Tony Naylor and Martin Foyle as great Vale strikers, the promotion year when he was an absolute machine, 4 against Rotherham, 3 against Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham etc we’d have been up shit creek had we not resigned him last year!

Not at all embarrassed. We’ve probably got a third of your budget and won 2-1. 223 fans is hardly ‘shit’ either considering the distance, 48 less than you brought to us last season.

You did, but the budget figure was quoted on your forum. Just think AP’s response is a bit over the top. Yes, we rode our luck a bit today, but ‘piss poor’ is hardly fair!

I agree, your defensive side was poor, but you had some good players going forwards. Sort the defence you have a chance of doing well.

We are not going to finish second, but will be happy with a top half finish given the off the field issues we have to put up with. Wouldn’t think there will be too many places separating the two teams come the end of the season to be fair.

As a Newport County fan I am embarrassed by our good luck and that we are piss poor and apologise to Port Vale and football fans in general for the fact that we are second in the table on a shoestring budget. It won't happen again.

I will be writing to the EFL recommending that the referee should never referee another game and that the three points from this game should be confiscated from us and returned to their rightful owners - Port Vale.

Once again, I am truly sorry that this situation has arisen. Winning games such as these and witnessing refereeing decisions favouring us is simply not an accurate reflection of our football club and normal service will be resumed as soon as is humanly possible.

Take some time away from the forum fella. Genuinely, if you’re being serious here then speak to someone. Going back and forth on trivial matters such as football is irrelevant.

Andy, this sort of thing reared it's head i think on New years eve where you clearly were unwell and threatening stuff.
These threads are about banter both giving and taking. They are opposition fans and clearly take a different slant to us obviously. Newport were very lucky on Saturday, notwithstanding our keeper made 2 top saves as well !!! however they were lucky but i'm sure over the season we will get points when we didn't deserve them.
In fact already we robbed Crawley of a deserved point.

As Southey says take a back seat mate, comments like you made do yourself no good nor other posters, if you need help do as you did at the New year and speak to somebody.

The Newport fan did nothing wrong and it wasn't a personal attack against you, merely his opinion and banter.

Hi Andy, I hope your well and feeling better this morning compared to the weekend.

Some people don't realise the problems you are suffering from and sure the lad only meant it as football banter rather than personal.

It was a mega frustrating day all round but much more positive from the performance than other games. The pictures of the hand ball are pretty conclusive and is annoying as the second game in a row we've lost a game where we could of equalised with a blatant decision like that and forth in five games where we will likely have an apology!
