I have nothing against Mansfield and said on another thread that they were the best L2 side have seen live this season [though missed Lincoln and Bury]
Nobody died in the Mansfield v Rovers game, there weren't even any season-ending injuries. However, Mansfield posters on here thought Rovers were the dirtiest team to grace whatever Field Mill is called these days, whereas Rovers fans felt that your players, Grant in particular, went down far too easily and were aided by a homer of a referee. County1 felt that Mansfield were constantly in the referee's ear and went down at any contact in this play-off game, which sounded familiar.

It just sounds like you’ve got standard forum syndrome, ie one Mansfield fan said something so you assume that was the viewpoint of the entire fanbase of Mansfield, and it clearly still stings because it’s now several times you mentioned it after the fact but just remember Banks got sent off that day and it was rightly so - 20 fouls in the first half!!! and that was one of Grants only good games - he tore you lot to shreds.

Anyway best of luck in the play-offs, that’s all done with now - just remember Mansfield fans DO NOT think Tranmere are a team bunch of thugs, that’s all in ya own mind, you were just a little bit keen on the day.

We played you in the recent draw at Newport. Both teams were physical and gave as good as they got. Difference was, unlike Mansfield, your players didn’t constantly drop to the ground and moan at every decision. Also, your fans, unlike one Mansfield poster on here, showed respect and did not form opinions on the basis of ‘extended highlights’ from a Mansfield video!

Are County the prettiest footballing side in League Two? No, not even close.

Is our playing surface good? No, but it's nowhere near as bad as many make out. Forest Green, Swindon (who were outstanding) and even Yeovil all played beautifully on it, to name but three league opponents. And as did Man City, who controlled and move the ball as easily as they do everywhere else.

Are County a dirty team? Well, according to the latest FA Fair Play tables, no other side in League Two - nobody - has picked up fewer disciplinary points per game than us. Anyone who says County are dirty has either not watched us or knows sod all about football. Cue a dozen cards tomorrow...

Oh, and only Northampton and Crawley have picked up more disciplinary points per game than Mansfield.

Newport

Yellow: 65
Second yellow: 0
Straight red: 3

Mansfield

Yellow: 80
Second yellow: 3
Straight red: 1

Not that much in it really, what are your straight reds for? Perhaps we do lots of tactical fouling to reset the pitch (Neal Bishop with 12 yellows for example). Not sure if that makes us exceptionally dirty, how can you measure it with any confidence? All the teams in the division cheat, Mansfield and Newport included.

Whereas it appears we’ve actually got more disciplinary points than Newport, your last sentence is incorrect, please reinvestigate.

I think our only straight red was from Tyler Walker making an obscene gesture to the linesman rather than cheating anyone out of anything, although I'm sure we've done that at some point!

It was, and he deserved it as well - but he’s young, he’ll learn.

Hopefully we’ll get a strong ref tomorrow anyway, after a straight red not being given and then a penalty wrongly awarded hopefully the decisions will even themselves out.

The discussion is more about how Newport fans are suggesting Mansfield are a bunch of cheats, not the other way round, so I don’t understand the defensive mechanism showing in this post.

Stringy: straight reds - Franks for old-fashioned Fourth Division centre half "tackle", red all day long; Willmott for a winger's tackle, also merited red; Butler "last man" - he wasn't, so correctly rescinded. Interesting that it is still counted, when obviously it shouldn't be, which would make our record even better. Mansfield not exceptionally dirty, all teams cheat - totally agree. What shouldn't be forgotten is that Thursday's ref was crap, not just crap for Mansfield. Would we have tried it on, delaying every restart, kicking the ball away, holding on to it? Absolutely, but a decent ref would not have tolerated it. Breakspear did.

Adam Stag: fair point, it's on an absolute basis that only Northampton and Crawley have worse records than Mansfield, not points per game.

Conker: the discussion had started to alter. I repeat, I don't think Mansfield are dirty. You are very streetwise, though (that's a compliment). Who knows, maybe I haven't got over last season's visit by Evans's team, who achieved a draw through the most blatant American Football tactics I have ever seen outside Candlestick Park. Again though, the blame for that can mostly be apportioned to a weak referee

Irrespective - safe trip up for the Newport fans, brunels near the train station accepts fans, it’s a bit meh but there’s an outside to it, the railway will accept “well behaved” away fans in their words.

Notts police will go on the assumption it’s going to be world war 3 and be out in force no doubt

Going to stick with my prediction from prior to the first leg. Mansfield to get through to Wembley, Tranmere to scrape through against FGR, 1-1 between Mansfield and Tranmere at Wembley, extra time, and Mansfield to overcome Tranmere on penalties.

Newport have three very good strikers, It'll be some job to keep them all quiet. Can they defend though! Tough tie.

That’s where we need to be careful, we were very effective on the break - though in fairness we scored more and conceded less than Newport

Agree, but Mansfield have quality all over, it's just whether they turn up or not. I just can't see them throwing away another promotion opportunity after they season they've had, but also after the poor performance against us. FGR deserve to be in this position also and are a tough side to beat, I just think Mansfield have the slight edge when it comes down to it.

One of the things I’ve taken out of our cup games in the last year or so is the quality of refs. Dean, Kavanagh, Marriner, East etc have been head and shoulders above the L2 lot, you’d expect that I suppose but seen in the flesh it makes such a difference. Games flow, little back chat / crowding of ref etc. Almost as if the players had respect for the ref, bizarre.

Be greatful you didn’t have one of those on Thursday! You’d have been down to 10 after 6 minutes and had no penalty!

I had Mansfield down for auto promo after our two encounters a few months back. But Bury came late to the party, and MK recovered after your wobble. Mansfield have been consistent without being spectacular. I'd agree, Mansfield as slight favourites to get up.

It wouldn’t surprise me to win tonight, but ultimately fail when it matters ie Wembley.

It’s gonna be tough, I’m really worried about the pressure aspect - Stevenage at home the other week is still fresh in the memory! It’s going to be our only downfall I imagine.

Not sure how a PL ref would not have given a pen. Would prob have had the same view of the incident as Breakspear. Only thing that is clear from that angle is that Logan clears out Azeez. Can’t see whether he does or doesn’t make contact with the ball, in which case ref has to go with what he can see which is the strong contact from the keeper. Unless the keeper gets a stronger hand on the ball and pushes it out towards the touch line rather than a very slight touch it will be given as a pen all day long. Will continue to be so until VAR comes in. Logan has been round the block and was dull as fuck to challenge like he did. Made up Azeez’s mind for him to go for the touch rather than try to control the ball, just like any other striker up and down the land, Danny Rose excepted of course.
Re the red / yellow card I suggest you listen to Jacket’s comments on the Sunderland red card after last night’s game. One of the few players, managers, commentators who actually knows the laws of the game and what an obvious goal scoring opportunity is.
To suggest you have been the subject of 2 travesties of justice is bollocks.

Sorry, you’re wrong.

Will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Newport looking the better team carrying on from the second half Friday. Should score there!

Roles reversed from the start of the 1st leg here. Mansfield haven't got going at all.

Big two chances missed, though, on in particular. Need to be putting them away.

It's always right clever how they show Field Mill on the telly isn't it. Why don't you show the other side?!
