Well we beat Torquay 2-1 after referee (and i use that term loosely) Mr Swallow tried to gift Torquay the game with a decision so bad he should never ref a National league game again.
Then came Rooney and Quigley's goals.... and now 7 points clear with a game in hand....

We recalled Ross Fitzsimons from his loan spell at Chesterfield, he saved a penalty at 0-0 against Chesterfield, we’ve now loaned him back out to Chesterfield. What a time to be alive.

To be fair as much as we got away with the penalty, it was a very routine win. Lovely goal by Enzio.

We never had a shot on target and conceded two scruffy arse goals, which is just Pools all over.

12th-17th season again.

Ebbsfleet 1-1 Sutton

Poor game, although the strong wind played a part with the ball mostly in the same half for the majority of the game so pretty much evened out. Not a huge amount of obvious talent on show for either side, however I was suitably impressed by the Sutton winger David Ajiboye. Don't know a huge amount about the lad but from a quick google looks like he has a bit of pedigree from League clubs under his belt. Ekpiteta had a reasonable game for the Fleet, but otherwise it was pretty poor fare and a point apiece the right result.

Win against Hartlepool,
Expected a nil-nil at half time, we had the majority of play but neither side looked like scoring. sending off changed things but still nearly screwed it up with a daft own goal.

I think that's something like 11 unbeaten now but will need to keep it going to make play-offs

Absolute shithousery from Notts. Loan Chessie our keeper, let him train with them for a week. Recall him. Have him play against them and save a penalty then send him back.

Finally got rid of the monkey of 7 years since a league win on TV. We can't get too excited though as we have Aldershot on TV coming up soon.

Comfortable 2nd half performance.

Another week where most of the top 10 (bar Barrow, obviously) decided they didn’t really want to be in the FL after all. I feared we wouldn’t take advantage of another set of favourable results and it looked that way when Chessie were awarded their pen. But Fitz’s save and Boden’s bizarre decision to throw his arms up in despair rather than try to follow it in ensured we went in level at the break. A decent second half and some woeful defending/goalkeeping from Chessie saw a comfortable three points in the end. It was especially pleasing to see Wootton back on the scoresheet, and a fine assist from the highly rated Callum Roberts for the 2nd.

Doesn’t look great for the Spireites tho, seen that kind of capitulation in our relegation seasons. Their best hope of stopping up would seem to be hoping only 3 drop.

Cal Roberts looks pretty useful, Fitzsimons played a blinder and we won quite convincingly.
Chesterfield looked poor, great long throws, Denton looked a handful but overall it looks like being a slog for the Spireites to get out of the mess . Hope they do but but they did look one of the poorer teams I've seen this season.

They caused some trouble from set pieces and long balls (most people will against us though, we must be the shortest team in the league), but I found their lack of pace astonishing. Boldewijn and Roberts gave them the run around out wide and they didn’t have anyone who could offer something similar. Their hopes might rest on old man Nathan Tyson, which is a worry.

Nice to play with a forward. Paul Mccallum made a massive difference in the half hour he was on. Scored within moments of his debut before setting up Akinola.

Hartlepool looked okay but had very little up front. Should of been out of sight but poor finishing gave Pool a glimmer of hope. Deserved win for Barnet.

See how Feb pans out before I think we can get a play off spot but we are beating teams above us and with a good striker in the team it looks positive.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
At last, a really entertaining game at the Rec. Shots shaded the first half, ahead with a Mo Bettamer goal, but Harrogate tightened up midfield after the break, and pretty much dominated before equalising..Difficult for Shot’s puny midfielders, up against very physical opposition .Harrogate surprisingly flakey at the back. Fair result, enjoyable afternoon.

We didn't have a shot all game, at home against fucking Dagenham, on the back of a 2-0 win away to Harrogate.

Keatesball is well and truly under way.

Saturday's 2-1 win over Torquay was probably one of the most satisfying, given that we were a goal down (off the back of a refereeing fuck up). Any concerns over us being a bit tired or a bit fragile were allayed as we dug in until the end and scrapped hard to get the win.

No point starting a new thread for it but tomorrow's game, even though it's not the one that was postponed, is effectively our game in hand. Anything but a win would give a sliver of hope to the likes of Harrogate, Yeovil, and (unbelievably) Halifax.

Even though we are 7 points clear a win at Dover would be massive especially as Harrogate are at home to Yeovil on Tuesday next week and one (or both) of them will be dropping points there.

So a belated match thread started by Chipmunx 3 days after the games have already been played.
So i’m guessing Barrow won then?

We were given 3 points by default due to Eastleigh fans singing ‘oh when the spits go flying in’.

Spits.

We had to win that to have any play off hopes. Not that I had any in the first place though.

Shows how much we miss Loach. Two shit keepers on our books. If we still had him, we’d probably still be in the mix.

I can't believe you were still talking about play-offs. Hartlepool aren't going anywhere for a good few years yet, you've found your level. Welcome home, Brother. :fl:

Aye it’s just a limp to the finish now, lacking quality at both ends, Killip and Beeney are both poor for different reasons and upfront we’re badly missing an experienced front man, I think McCallum showed the difference in the two teams, goalscorer, clever, scores and sets up the winner, whereas we have two kids up front learning the game.

Loach has been an excellent signing. Must be one of the best keepers at this level.

We were probably in the same boat before the game. The win keeps us right in the mix and with just about everyone else faltering, we are extremely well placed to climb up the table.

A big test of our mettle on Saturday against Barrowcelona in the Trophy. I suspect they might rest a few so be interesting to see whether we can extend our unbeaten run to 12.

Loach has been the best keeper in this league for the past three seasons, standout player for us even though everyone else around him was garbage, seeing him play for your lot is like seeing your ex having the time of their lives with some Southern hunk whilst we’re stuck with Tasha who works in the local Spar

Yeah, Beeney certainly did not do well on the corner that led to our opener. He was nowhere near the ball and he probably contributed to our winner as well, a more assertive keeper would have communicated with his defender to guide him in exactly what to do with the long punt.
Clever, that is what McCallum seems to be. He has that instinct of knowing where to position his body to best receive the ball when we resort to playing it long and the difference between him and Pavey was immediate palpable.

Don't they start Byron Harrison in the Trophy? His reception from our fans should be fun.

We'll have a week off after that game though, so I can see us picking a more or less full-strength team. That, unsurprisingly, doesn't include Harrison.

I agree with most of what has been said by Notts fans, from what I remember of the game anyway. Getting to Notts for 10am was fun at the time though.

Also agree that if 4 go down we're doomed.

We've definitely slipped under the radar. Impressive considering we were everyone's favourites to go down. The signings of Redshaw and Rodney and a change of formation has completely changed our season. The one slight issue which may undo us is an injury or two to key players. We are running with a very small squad currently and lack quality in depth.
