We are 'close' to signing a Left Back who apparently can also play on the right. Wellens has stated that he is looking to spend more of our budget at the top of the pitch so that may explain why Knoyle probably wasn't offered as good a contract at Cambridge.

Joe Riley :sb:

More chance of platting fog!

Calderwood’s managing stats for the last 10 years are in the 20% win ratio bracket. Seems like he has preferred being a No. 2.

He has a promotion on his CV and has managed Nottingham Forest who are a massive club.

He's been no.2 at Newcastle, Norwich, Villa and Brighton and we have already seen from the loan signings we got to get us out of trouble last year that he has a good black book of contacts.

I know which manager I would prefer to play for.

Seen one of those in the know accounts on Twitter linking us with Stephen Dawson - brother of Kevin, so could be a goer (although still waiting on news of him agreeing a new deal). Thoughts Bury fans?

He’s finished. Played very little football in 2 years. One game he did play in he was sent off v Mansfield.

Think in lower leagues location plays a big part. You find lots of players who rarely venture north of Birmingham and vice versa players who stay around the North West.

Maybe that’s a big selling point at Mansfield, we’re right by the M1 so it’s easy to escape

Announce Riley, you won't find a better full back. You'd be stealing him from us.

P.s does Wellens read this site?

Meant to be under contract isn't he? Can't see us paying out for a full back to be honest.

He is and on mega money (obviously we payed because he was the U23’s captain at Man U) which is great because he’s played like three games for us and not one of our many managers last season thought he was good enough for even the bench after he started the first few (subbed off after an hour in each).

Think there will be a lack of signings the next couple of days, apparently all the hierachy of clubs are in Portugal at the EFL annual meeting/ conference/shindig

Nice for them to coincide with the Nations League !!!

Doubtful. If we can get James it would be a helluva signing. Probably be the Bury fella, though.

That makes sense. When Sir Dickie Dosh took over the side I recall him saying something like 'you can't have you highest earner playing at LB'. Agree with this 100% as everybody knows the decent attacking mids/forwards/strikers will be the ones who make the biggest difference to any side (and they're also the highest earners).

I'm not saying a very decent CH isn't handy (someone like Monthe at Tranny sure helped them go up this year) but I feel that most L2 sides can make do with having a 'very average' back four if they can afford to have 4 or 5 'above average' lads up top.

Paul McCallum confirmed he spoke to us this summer before turning us down. Not sure how I feel about that. Great scoring in the National League last season but not sure how he’d work alongside Bowman.

The only other name linked is 18 year old left back Noah Smerdon at Gloucester City. Highly rated apparently and trained with Watford this season. Apparently a fee would be involved.

Our local Andrex is saying that we will be losing three players to championship clubs soon.

Sesay to WBA is one with rumours of £350k. Not bad for a full back not considered good enough to play in his proper position.

Camara is another. He would be a big loss. His running stats are off the chart and he is good enough to find that bit of space to circulate the ball.

Ash Nathaniel-Grant is the other. I'm not 100% sure about him. Floats around the pitch and I'm thinking he is much too lightweight and then suddenly bang! A goal or a superb assist.

The paper says we will get £1.3 million for them which ain't bad for three freebies. Camara is the one I'd prefer to keep so it will be him that goes.

Gloucester fans think very, very highly of him. I'm surprised we haven't had a look to be fair.

Sounds like a great prospect. I wonder what sort of fee they’d want. Can’t see us parting with more than £50K

If you get James then the rest of us need to just Sit Down and accept we’re all fighting for second place.

Not talking about McCallum, I know he’s moved there. It’s the Gloucester City left back that Si is referring to from my original post.
