Not sure if canny is the adjective I'd use. Be an absolutely class signing and I'd put good money on him topping the scoring charts but definitely won't be anything shrewd about it, they'll be paying top top dollar at this level for him.

Obviously he’d be straight in with our top earners, but if it happens (and I won’t quite believe it til it’s announced), it’s because he’s decided he doesn’t care about the money any more. Got a new deal on the table with Derby pushing 10k a week that we obviously couldn’t afford to offer him close to half of.

If he joins it’s because he wants to finish his career with the club he started at and has always supported pretty much. He wasn’t a million miles away from dropping into the NL last summer to do it before Derby offered him something.

I don’t think anyone expects you to outbid Derby, but if he signs he’ll be one of if not the highest paid player at this level. Regardless of what fans think players don’t play for a pack of jammy dodgers and a bottle of coke regardless of starting their career somewhere.

No you're right, I'm pretty sure the phrase Ben Foster used was "literally peanuts" - the diet of a professional footballer these days would never allow for that much sugar

Yeah he’s decent, has ability to strike from range off either foot. Decent on the ball, can spot a pass. Very tall adding a bit of height to a team you don’t often get in midfield and covers the ground. Great age.

He'd have to be the best paid player at this level and comfortably. If you've got any chance of signing a player like that you take it though I guess. I’ve seen us linked somewhere on Twitter but can’t remember who by or if any substance in it. We’re usually ‘linked’ with about 50 players each Summer and end up with about 2 of them though.
