We had him on loan last season for a few months just before Christmas. Bang average League Two full, not bad but absolutely no stand-out attributes whatsoever.

He was incredibly forgettable. Maybe he has come on a bit in the last few years.

Newcastle United's Macaulay Gillesphey has joined Carlisle on loan until 2017.

I think that's a solid signing, he improved a lot towards the end of last season and gives us another option in defence.

Left back Lewis Kinsella has signed after being released from Aston Villa at the end of last season. He's been on trial for the past few friendlies and looked pretty good to be fair, pleased to keep him on.

He certainly won't be a starter for us. Here as back up for sure as we are a little short on right backs due to Omozusi's broken foot.

Was brilliant here at the end of last season. Will be a very good signing for you.

We've loaned David Forde from Millwall. Hopefully that resolves our goalkeeper problem.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of signings being made this summer that "won't get in the starting 11" and are "only here as back up".

Kyle Howkins has signed from West Brom on a 6 month loan deal. Don't know much about him but another CB is just what we need.

Kinsella was pretty garbage for us as was Long, but both came in when form was an issue and they were only here very briefly

We've announced our squad numbers today.

Interestingly Brough (11 last season) has switched to 21, but no one has taken the number 11 shirt yet. The number is being saved for a certain striker who will be signing, eventually.

Correct, as the emergency loan system has been shit canned, which means clubs require larger squads, with many players who will only be there to cover for injuries and even then more than likely end up on the bench.

The clubs that have gone for smaller squads will get caught out this season and will have to draft in players from the Youth Team in order to cover for an injury crisis. What we may find is that teams with smaller quality over quantity squads will by flying high for the first half of the season, then as injuries bite, slide down the table, while those with larger squads will be able to take advantage as the season wears on

I see your point, but there are so many free agents out there. I'd expect to see month to month contracts being dished out to these players once we get into September and injuries/suspensions start to pile up.

Pau Bignot has somehow blagged a 1-year deal at Newport. Was shite in the conference so God knows how he'll cope in this league.

As Frealaf said, deal has been supposedly sorted today and he will sign before our last friendly tomorrow.

I haven't posted on here before, but Darlington have just signed Mark Beck following his release from Yeovil. What is he like Carlisle/Yeovil fans?

He was actually not bad in league 1 as an impact sub, got a few goals, but he's gone rapidly downhill and has been absolutely shite for the past 2 years. A spell in non league getting regular game time might do him good. He always filled his boots in friendlies against non league teams, so maybe he will for you boys.

Will provide cover to 1st choice right back Barnum- Bobb so confident he will do a good job. Very popular with Newport fans and great to have him back. Another decent addition to the squad.

Newport certainly look like a team of lge2/ conf cast offs on paper, but it sounds like they are impressing the fans so maybe the manager has put a team that works well together. A bit surprised Parkin is back, I thought his legs had gone. Randall is great on good pitches but his desire to play the Hollywood balls all the time doesn't work once you get into winter.

Striker with 3 goals in the last 2 seasons!

Almost forgot about you Kenny

Posts showing, goals per second, assists per pass made, and inches ran per minute, with posts on number of players in the squad divided by development players under 30 that don't come into the playing budget....

Welcome back to the wonderful world of Kenny End, Grimsby fans, it's gonna be a hoot.

He hardly played for us. Sturrock signed him as a panic buy as he needed to build a whole squad in a short space of time, then decided he wasn't good enough as he never picked him. Darren Way didn't rate him and got rid of him to Wrexham for the rest of last season then dumped him. 8 games, no goals. A donkey from what I did see of him.

Alex Lawless signed on a 1 year deal, happy with that. Fills the last gap in our first team, and brings much needed experience.

Very pleased to see him get a league club. Can be a very classy and intelligent player when he is fit. Wonder if Jones recommended him to Yeovil as I think he would have kept him if his contract situation was different.

Will be getting a good reception upon his return here no doubt.

We've also signed Josh Gillies, who I think had a spell at Carlisle.
He could probably do a job in the Conference North, decent on the ball. Beck could be a good signing, the majority of the time he looked useless for us (and I presume Yeovil too) but could have an impact in a lower league (he had a decent spell on loan at Falkirk).

We hadn't got a big target man in the squad, and we're blessed with a host of decent wide players for the level, so hopefully when needed he'll get decent service.

We've got Max Crocombe (keeper from Oxford) and Harry Panayiotou (released from Leicester) on trial today against Bradford.
