Clarke seems a strange signing is he still ok at this level?

Yes. If he was 20 years younger, league one and Championship clubs would be queuing up to take him. Suffers from the odd brain fart, but who doesn’t at this level.

Paul Lewis returns to Tranmere on a 2 year deal. Thank god.
Was he that bad for you?

There wasn’t much complaint when he left and while he will help with adding height and some goals to midfield, personally have reservations. Could live with him as a squad player but don’t think he offers enough to be a first team regular in a side going for promotion.

I think that he suffered last season from us being so short on central defenders that we couldn’t rest him even when that was needed. I also felt some of his behaviour as captain was OTT and he got away with a few things. However he’s still a decent central defender and will chip in with a few goals. Will be interesting seeing how he does. Think you’ve got the players for a back 3 and that might work out better for him.

Including Ritchie Smallwood…. Although, you’d imagine he’ll have better offers in L1.

Apparently Pompey have offered him something, but he wants to stay up North - who could blame him.
Pompey seem to be after every out of contract player in League One, Two and the NL. They get linked to about ten players a day at the moment.

He is still a very solid defender who reads the game well and wins everything in the air. However, by playing him every week we were forced to defend deep last season, which really restricted our attacking threat. I think that is why we have allowed him to move on.

I am pleased Paul Lewis has returned. A decent midfielder who works hard and has an eye for goal.

Nah, he wasnt terrible, but his injury and drop from the team coincided with a huge jump in our form. Fairly standard League 2 player, but I'm not sure what his position is... was supposed to be the most forward postioned of a midfield 3 for us, but never very productive at either late runs or final balls. Bit surprised as we're light in midfield as it was, wasnt expecting us to release any out of contract players other than Kabamba, even if I didnt expect him to start as much this season.

Manny was a decent defender for us and we sadly lacked his pace last season. Main problem at Rovers was his distribution giving the ball away too cheaply. If he can/has eradicated that from his game then a very good player to have around.

I see Claret Forever has answered, agree with all that he said.

Also on Twitter saying that his mrs is pregnant and he wants to get back up north so makes sense for all parties it seems.

Agree, my thoughts on him exactly.
Can see his ability but I wasn't sure that we were playing to his or our strengths...

Monthe's assets were his pace and strength and his recovery runs. His one versus one defending is good, but he is woeful in the air considering his size, and poor positionally.

Clarke is by far the superior defender in my view.

anyone needing a winger could do a lot worse than David Amoo, we just released him.

difficult to get him into our formation this year as we played with wing backs so he tended to be coming on for cameos when chasing games and often playing as a striker too.

I think we all know Cam Dawson was easily the best keeper in the league last year bar none, I don't even think any other keeper came close, he was in a league of his own

Scunny's 17 year old keeper's absolutely inept performance can be seen here and people can decide for themselves
Don't know why you're arguing that you know better based on some highlights, with two people who actually watched that match, one from each team.

Would have him back here.

Because the highlights showing him conceding 7 goals show that his performance was dog shit. The other 87 minutes of the game are irrelevant if you make as many mistakes as he did in the game.

Broadly agree on their relative merits although Clarke is waning a little with age. We did lack pace at the back last season and not replacing that aspect of Manny Monthe’s game in our arsenal was a recruitment failure. Hoping we redress this time around.

I haven't watched the highlights, just saying that two people who know this game (and the player in question) far better than you do disagree with you.

I can’t tell if these leaks are deliberate or not I mean he’s literally posing for this one!

I think that he scored 5 for us last season, although didnt start that many games. A lot would have liked him to come back, but we are also rumoured to have Telford incoming so who knows?

id love harratt back with us for a year and can't really understand why he'd go to bradford at the start of the summer especially.

he was immense in the swindon home game and even better at wembley, deserved his goal. pretty gutted if thats true to be honest.
