If we don’t get a independent football regulator they will continue to exert more and more control year by year until it’s too late.

EFL not consulted on this btw.

Absolute disgrace but hardly surprising. The FA are spineless quisling rats who bend over backwards time and time again for the Prem. The likes of Klopp and Pep are a fucking joke complaining about fixture congestion constantly in the media. The pundits need to be piping up here making a fuss.
I might be reading it wrong but I don't think it even addresses the fixture congestion issue that well anyway - they're going to have cup games on weekends with no PL clashes, so that will only push those league games to midweek, and they're starting later and getting rid of the winter break too. Basically they're getting rid of replays for more rest in the summer it seems like.

And there will still be cup games up till the Wednesday apparently!

The way they said its their biggest asset and then do this! Bunch of twats who has ripped the heart and soul out the competition all because of a few foreign managers don't like any extra games.

Either they put up or shut up. Greatest competition in the world ffs.

The big earning clubs run the show and this is what they want, so it happens.

Isn't the Cup moving exclusively to TNT Sports anyway? Another horrendous money-making decision.

Still mad to me that the old FA Trophy compromise of letting the teams agree to settle it in 90 minutes has never been brought in. Even at our level a replay feels completely pointless between two League Two teams (or even most of League One), but they're so important when it's a mismatched tie.

Funny thing is these top teams get to the final stages generally so surely they aren’t that bothered about extra games .

Just play a load of kids in the 3rd round which is what some in the lower PL and Championship do.

Can't wait to see the end of that Klopp.

Guardiola recently stating his desires again for B teams in the football pyramid.

Gowon Tranmere.

Hopefully more clubs put out similar statements, and even better just boycott the cup next year.

More penalties conceded than any club in Europe where the data exists, you’ll never sing that.

I thought that ref the other night was taking the piss, but clearly he just wanted us to get to the top of that league. Fair play to him. I now regret calling him a c**t.

No one at Notts has given a flying one about the fa cup or any other cup competition for years so I hope we don’t pretend to get our panties in a spin about it.

Really pleased we've put a statement out. Like you say, hopefully plenty more to come.

I’m really hoping something comes out from Mansfield, during Covid JR was leading the way with the issue over payments and I’d like him to do the same when he sobers up.

I guess it's largely irrelevant for you with the current owners but you should be thinking longer term surely? Your next owners might not be as comfortable with being 15M+ in the red.

Tbh I very much doubt the next owners will be 15M+ in the red. When the Dazzling Danes finally do depart (hopefully no time soon) I don't imagine anybody coming in would take anywhere near that sort of level debt on.

Our CEO is hoping/aiming to hold the level of debt at circa this level which we are told is comfortable to handle. We are very lucky IMO.

There is something out there called good debt. :dk:

If the Danes will be wiping the current debts and not looking to make their money back when they sell that's great for you, however FA Cup replays offer a very obvious and lucrative potential windfall for anyone trying to stay in the black. My point isn't about whether your model is sustainable or the debt is good or whether you are very lucky to have such wonderful owners. It's that not being arsed about it now because you don't see the benefit in your current setup is a short sighted view to take. For me, it's bizarre that any lower league club would not care about this.

Saw a stat, not sure if true but the traditional top 6 big PL clubs have 1 replay each every 5 years on average.

I don’t know whether it’s been ‘official’ policy to sack the cup competitions off, but team selection and more importantly performances lately have always suggested they’re a long way down the list of priorities(obviously in the NL there’s literally one priority, maybe not so much in league 2).

It might just be down to the coach. Williams obviously wasn’t bothered but Maynard with his pub league background might really want to go for it.

I’ve no idea at what stage they become financially worth it tbh, if you get to the quarters like you did it’s great money, but that rarely happens for clubs at our level.

Securing an FA Cup replay isn't really a realistic way of generating a load of money, but it's at least possible, and it's the principle of the whole thing isn't it.

This, replays are hardly lucrative and you have to be lucky to get the payday but it's the principle of the whole thing.

This decision has been taken between the FA and premier league. That's 20 clubs consulted on a decision affecting over 700, and what's worse is the premier league aren't even involved in rounds 1 and 2.

It's quite clear who is currently running English football and the sooner an independent regulator comes in the better, not that I'd have much confidence in the government running it either but it's got to be better than the big 6 running football

The government won't be running it. It will be independent.
