Strong rumours that we’ve signed Luke Armstrong from Harrogate.

Obviously won’t be able to play till January, but will be an improvement on what we have.

In the bag, this one. Don't think there's anything in the Wyke rumours though...

I can’t see Wyke coming if the reports of his Wigan salary are true.

Afolabi would probably give our front line better balance alongside Armstrong anyway, with Garner coming off the bench. Afolabi probably well out of our price range as well though.

Armstrong will carry a significant fee himself - fully expecting it to be a club record. Rumour is that Edmo is heading the other way as part of the deal.

I can really see us demolishing this league second half of the season with all the quality we'll be bringing in next month.
Everyone else will be huffing and puffing.

Then you need to go to specsavers.

If you’ve been watching the same team as I have all season, it’s going to take more than a few improved quality signings for us to demolish any team let alone the league. Just staying up is going to be a huge ask whatever incomings we bring.

You’re prematurely blowing your load again, just like you did after our last win however many weeks/months ago it was.

And if it wasn't for an injury crisis then we'd have kept winning..

I fear this is true, Carlisle suddenly being transformed from BELEAGUERED CARLISLE UNITED into the megabucks stratosphere will once again inflate the market.

Players will know that, and game the system for ever bigger wages and sign-on fees.

Whatever we also-rans might offer to potential signings will now be looked on with disdain…

“seriously? I could get at least double that at Carlisle” will be a common refrain.

I mean yeah, there’s financial fair play and that, but like Man City, Carlisle will have an army of elite legal eagles at their disposal, ready to find every loophole.

Big finance is killing the game.

Armstrong to Carlisle confirmed by both clubs this morning.

I’d say if this has confirmed the Wyke rumours could be very true.

If both of them sign it does state one thing, that the Carlisle budget increase isn’t just a moderate increase, it’s completely changed to another level……that is two players we’d never even contemplated even bothering to look into in the summer because they were so out of reach.

Now we’ve probably just paid an enormous transfer and wage fee to Armstrong (Wrexham won’t have been offering peanuts in summer) and dread to think what wyke will be on.

Am worried with the drastic rise of budget to know where the cash is coming from but on a playing front we are probably going to be on a different level to other relegation battlers this January.

Any idea of the fee for Armstrong or potential wages? It was rumoured he was headed to Wrexham for 500k in the summer (I think).

Bit of a gamble the Armstrong one. his EFL scoring record is pretty modest, especially if its big bucks money.

Copying Wrexham I think it’s what they hope but it isn’t going to happen, I still am unsure why they got involved but at least their Jacksonville base has a lot of connections for other people to invest.

Wyke would be the bigger signing if we got him, Armstrong seems the ‘making a statement’ signing, will cost money, has been nabbed from Wrexham etc etc. the hey look what we can get signing…..but in pitch wise it’s a gamble.

But he’s had a poor season and hasn’t really done this level…….Wyke meanwhile knows the club, knows this level and would easily settle straight in and show an intent on L1 standard players.

Yeah I don't believe the Wyke rumours at all, that's just someone having a bit of fun. We have been after Armstrong for a while and he was unsettled at Harrogate, which is why he's left there to come train with us even though he can't play yet.

Some of the fans have been getting a bit carried away thinking that we're the new Wrexham but the Piataks themselves have been encouraging more restraint. With this signing though we do at least show we now have an appropriate budget for league one.

It's not been revealed yet but I don't think the fee will be as high as it was for Wrexham, maybe just over half of that is the feeling I'm getting because he has not featured much this season after a falling out with his club perhaps who knows.

I imagine his wage will be fairly high but nothing outrageous for this level.

He had one of the highest average ratings in L2 last season and scored 16 goals.

Simmo said at the forum that the fee we paid was significantly less than the half a mil he almost went to Wrecsam for, which stands to reason, they were desperate and he'd just come off the back of a good season. Apparently the reason why that transfer took so long they missed the deadline was Harrogate playing hardball with the negotiations knowing how rich Wrexham were.

The first name mentioned to me about a player we're looking at maybe signing in January is Stevenage striker Elliott List.

Sounds like we've done a good bit of business then Shoddy.

I really believe Armstrong will be good for us and all the 'We've dodged a bullet' kind of comments from Wrexham fans will prove to be nonsense.

They only go after quality players and they were willing to buy him for 500k.

Rumours that Wrexham are after Aimson.
Strange one that, he's done OK but doesn't appear to be the best captain. But Wrexham do leak goals so maybe there is something in it.

Wrexham reckon they're gonna pinch Dion Charles from Bolton to go along with Jonathan Afolabi and Lawrence Shankland.

I had a look on their forum and it does sound like a lot of sour grapes, however I doubt there was much chance of them coming back in for him... since Mullin's return to fitness and form they're not really looking for a goalscorer any more and after so little football in the past six months there is an element of risk to signing him now. Hopefully him training with us already will help get him up to speed.

What impressed me from our live forum last night was Simpson saying he treats the clubs transfer and wage money as if it were his own money and won't sign players who he believes are not worth their asking price.
Also our new owners talking about where they would like to see the club in 10 years time etc shows that they are in it for the long run and are not going down the Wrexham route of throwing lots of cash around just to achieve something we did last season with one of the lowest budgets in L2.

It will come back and bite Wrexham and they could end up like Bury whereas we'll look to do things sensibly and who knows if we're lucky we could turn out like Brighton or Brentford.
But as long as we modernise our club, run it well and make ourselves nothing less than a competitive L1 team then I'm really pleased.

Sounds like Corey Blackett Taylor will be off in January. A huge loss for us, even more so given I have no faith in our recruitment to bring in any adequate replacement

I've seen Alfie is apparently being linked with Birmingham again.

I'd piss if you sold him for over £500k - if only because it'll make our decision to let him go for half that look even more ludicrous. Especially as our board have sold it on the premise he had no re-sale value

Hadn't seen those links. I'd imagine that would happen in summer though if anything

Our former young centre back Jarrad Branthwaite has now had a £100 million price tag put on him by Everton.
He was world class when he played for us at the age of 17 in L2 and he's even more world class now with top European and Premier league clubs all after him, so if he gets sold next month or in the summer which is looking more and more likely, we have a 10 to 15 percent sell on clause for him so we'll pocket at least £10 million or more for him and the funds will go straight towards our transfer budget.

Not bad eh. :cool1:

Any clue where Charlie Kirk will end up? Just been released from Charlton. I can think of a great home for him.
