I'm sure Josh Magennis will score 20+ this season anyway.

Yeah, he's a good player. Good in the air and a real handful.

Just not a 20 goal a striker sadly, need someone like that alongside him whilst he gets through all the work but Robinson likes 1 up front so we're going to be relying on goals from the 3 behind him.

I was going to say exactly this haha. He'd make a terrific foil for a pacy goal poacher.

Igor Vetekole springs to mind. Now, where could we find someone like him .......... :pond:

We've only gone and spent a fee on yet another player!!

Omar Beckles (CB) signs from Accrington for an undisclosed fee on a 3 year deal.
This lad is one hell of a signing, we have paid a 6 figure fee for him as well. Surprised some of the bigger clubs in League 1 and the Championship did not come in for him!

According to our local rag we are interested in Jose Semedo. Another 30+ yo outfield player doesn't really excite me. Any comments from Sheffield Wed or Charlton fans?

He came to us with a lot of promise and some glowing endorsements, ultimately he was just 'ok'.

He started off quite well but gradually lost his way and became nothing more than just an average League One footballer.

Ball winning, no nonsense type of midfielder. Haven't seen him play for a few years but know he was popular among the Wednesday fans. Not a signing I would be too excited about but he's solid enough in his league I guess.

How much have you guys paid out over the summer roughly?

These were all undisclosed fees but the rumours are:-

James Bolton - Between 40,000 and 60,000
Zak Jules - 50,000
Jon Nolan - Between 100,000 and 200,000
Stefan Payne - 300,000
Omar Beckles - Around the 100,000 mark

We also paid a fee for Arthur Gnahoua from Kidderminster apparently.

We definitely shouldn't be involved in a relegation scrape this season.

That's a signing that should excite you, be the best ball winning midfielder at this level. Was our best player in our league one promotion season and was average in the Championship.

Jose Semedo won't be signing for Scunthorpe United, he's opted for sunny Portugal and top flight side Vitoria Setabul. Top man.

Apparently we are happy with our squad so no further business expected. I'm hoping it is playing down expectation rather than actually the case as our forward line is looking quite short in numbers (and injury prone). Also, Charlie Raglan is injured so we only have 3 fit centre halves and one of them is Mike Williamson, a superb player but also injury prone.

We have loaned out 2 young pros, Jack Stevens, a keeper to Oxford City for 6 months and Marcel Napa, a winger, to Hampton & Richmond Borough for an initial 1 month.

See Bury have signed Rohan Ince on season long loan from Brighton.

Fantastic signing, that. He was immense for us last season - stood out like a beacon amongst the dross. Thought he would go higher up the food chain than Bury, tbh.

Half hoping he would re-sign for us.

What sort of midfielder is he? We need someone who can take control, tackle and give the ball to our better players seeing Dawson is out till the new year.

That's exactly what you'll get. Honestly, he should in the Championship

You're not higher up the food chain than Bury, you're not even on the foodchain, you're insignificant pond scum

The same Wigan that averaged 1,742 in the mid nineties? The same Wigan that couldn't sell their FA Cup Final allocation at Wembley? The same Wigan that only averaged 7,200 when they won this league in 2003?

They are a small club, that had a rich benefactor who took them to the promised land. They averaged decent gates while there, but have a small historical fan base. If Oxford United had the same success as Wigan, we would get bigger gates than them. We took 31,000 this year and 35,000 last year to a tin pot cup final at Wembley. Wigan would not do this. That is the definition of having larger fan base.

Given similar seasons, Oxford United will average more than Wigan next season.

Well let's judge how many watch each of us next season then, on a level playing field.

Let's see what your crowds are after a few seasons back in the lower divisions. Back to where they were I'd suspect.

A good time to bring this old chestnut back up. Today we had ridiculous admission prices of £25 with a £2 increase on the day, all trains completely knackered and the Challenge Cup final on at exactly the same time. Yet we still managed to have around 1k more home fans than big bad Oxford. Stick to your boat racing pal and leave the football to the big clubs.

Na he isn't. :bg:

Goal and an assist in 30 minutes.

:lol::lol:

I genuinely cannot imagine how time and space combined to allow that to happen. Fair play though. He tried hard for us but was a 17 year old that got completely nullified in games at this level.

Rumours that we've turned down a £2m bid for Marvin Johnson from Middlesbrough. I reckon they're about a £1m off if it is true.

In fairness, he looked superb Saturday and his loan spell at Shrewsbury last season was, by all accounts 'very impressive'.

Looks a talent.
