I get it won't be popular but I have no issue with Salford being promoted, most clubs seem to be running at a loss, being supported by an owner who is rich enough (or not in some cases) to sustain those losses. They've just got richer owners than most. Of course it's frustrating for those that are attempting to run a sustainable football club but these clubs seem to be few and far between.

As for this crying over losing Notts County and gaining Salford, who gives a shit? Notts probably had one of the biggest budgets at this level and they fucked it up, that isn't Salford's fault.

In the grand scheme of things all the clubs at this level are small time and lack an appeal to the wider football audience, the Salford story will hold more of an appeal to the masses so Sky will get behind it. It's not a fairy tale, far from it but there's an interesting narrative there.

Go and drown in a pond you weasel.

Not crying over losing Notts County, they went down on merit.
But, them being replaced by either Salford or Fylde is shit. 2 teams that couldnt muster a 5-figure crowd between them for the biggest games in boths history.
You or I take a subscription to sky and/or bt for our football fix. Gary and the gang pick up another rich fella and get a plaything.
Are you advocating the old application for re-election system?
The I'm bigger than you clique which stunted lower league football for decades.
Just because a team has more fans does not mean it should always be in a higher league.
Even if these teams are bankrolled, then they deserve to progress as long as they do it on the field of play, unlike MK.
Not many complain about Chelsea and Man City anymore!!

The issue isn't with Salford per se, or Crawley, or Forest Green, or Fleetwood etc. The issue is with the rules that essentially allow for financial doping to take place. These sides aren't technically doing anything wrong, albeit morally they might be. But until the rules change, the likelihood is you're going to see more and more clubs doing exactly the same.

My concern with Salford is that, unlike Fleetwood, for example, there is scope for their fanbase to grow. Longer term if youngsters in and around the Manchester area get duped by the Class of 92 'project' that will cause all sorts of issues for Bury, Rochdale, Stockport etc.

Good point.
However, unfortunately in today's world, money talks, especially in football.
Accept and embrace or get bitter and twisted.
By the way. I don't like bank rolled clubs, but accept them as a microcosm of todays society.
My club is possibly the least bankrolled club in the NL, but wish we had a Billionaire sugar daddy.
I would enjoy the ride.....wouldn't every one?

Fingers crossed they crash and burn badly. Something doesn't quite go right in the summer resulting in them not being able to splash their cash, they get relegated and disappear without a trace.

It's nice to dream, but I'm consoling myself that we'll probably only be forced to suffer the Farce of 92 circus for one season, assuming the £20m naming rights for the PeterLim/Farce Of 92 Property Developments Stadium gets them off the hook with FFP and Bradley Dack accepts their offer of £90k a week.

My instinct is they’ll get to league one and then struggle to go any further, like Fleetwood. I bloody hope so anyway,

No chance unfortunately. I seem to recall they poached a couple of players who were offered L1 contracts when they were in Conference North.

Peter Lim alone is worth 2.5 billion - more than the owners of some EPL clubs. We've never seen anything like this at our level. If it's allowed to continue, with billionaires working out that its much easier to get clubs intò what may eventually be EPL 2 by massively doping small non-league clubs and creating Trojan Horse Frankenstein outfits, those of us who don't want, or can't find hugely wealthy owners at our traditional League clubs, had better be prepared for lengthly spells in non-league as filthy lucre increasingly dictates your place in the pyramid.

I wish those misguided fans falling for the media spin about Salford would realise that by praising them they're praising a model that if it reaches its logical conclusion could well condemn their own clubs to non-league oblivion, or at least make even L1 a pipe-dream.

Salford could only dream of having a fan base like Stockport. Duped or not.. They will never be bigger than them

It’s exactly like cheating on FM and giving yourself all the money, it’s not an achievement when you climb the leagues in front of a handful of fans (especially not at Wembley).

It’s a disgraceful business model only drawn up to stroke the egos of the owners, no one cares about their actual fans.

Edit: and is that Bradley Dack example a real thing?

Why?

Everyone is happy enough to hammer Salford for overspending but turn a blind eye to their own. It's ok that you're over spending because historically you've been established in the Football League? Or is it because you have more fans than them?

Clubs often overspend simply because the egregious modern model of massive financial doping has cascaded down the leagues and forced most clubs into a financial arms race that is often extremely risky, rather than risk telling fans that the alternative is accepting an ever-lower glass ceiling. Abominations like Salford will make this even worse.

I liken it to paying Prince a million quid a week to join your shit garage band and then crowing about what a great musician you are, or buying your doctoral thesis off the internet.

The Bradley Dack comment was a half-joke, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them signing lower-level Championship players.

They're already looking at Josh Vela, who was born in Salford and is leaving Bolton this summer. He'll be the first of many who are too good for L2, I'm sure.

Lost 32k a week in NLN in 2017/18 and the Singapore billionaire put in over 2 million that season.
They pay Rooney on 5k a week, Lloyd on 4k and paid us over the odds for Green over 100k and give him a tidy pay rise.

No I'd hate it and so would many other fans who understand that there's more to a football club than league position. IIRC Wimbledon fans voted down a takeover offer by Darragh MacAnthony before he bought Peterborough.

And accepting something distasteful or unjust simply because it's the way of the world is a cop out. Nothing would change for the better if every one adopted that attitude - Poverty? Just the way of the world. Racism and corruption? Ditto.

Pilley isn't that rich so Fleetwood have hit their ceiling, this lot could actually do a Wigan and buy their way into the Prem.

Vela would be a mad signing in L2.

They'll get there before we do anyway.

I think any concerns about Salford generating a actual decent fan base is fantasy.

Be interesting who they are sponsored by next season because the 55% rule is in play, they will not be able to fund the club the same way anymore but obviously you can get around that.

Crowds are becoming more and more irrelevant. Its all about how crafty and determined your owner is, QPR & Bournemouth did it on modest crowds.

Hopefully they hit and ceiling and the owners get bored.

Not many complain about Chelsea and Man City anymore!!

Nobody is saying that your League position should depend on your fanbase - just that there should be fair competition.

For nearly 100 years the Football League put in place a number of regulations to level the playing field - e.g. maximum wage, revenue sharing (away clubs receiving a share of the gate and equal broadcast revenue across the 92) and others such as restrictions on owners that discouraged asset-stripping and moneybags individuals doping clubs. Ironically these were largely put in place at the insistence of smaller clubs and those in smaller cities who were concerned the competition would be sewn up by a few clubs in big cities.

Something along those lines should have been retained. Levelling the playing field by expecting everyone to find a billionaire - the logical conclusion of your argument - is a horrific prospect.

And people should object to Chelsea & Man City - not only for the moneybags model but also for the nature of that money. Man City are "sportswashing" with dirty and even blood money from a human rights-abusing dictatorship that appropriates the national weath of its subjects in order to sanitise its nasty regime with the glamour of the EPL.

Chelsea use ill-gotten filthy lucre from a Russian gangster oligarch - a convicted criminal - who admitted to corruption in open court and who gained most of his fortune not from oil, but by by winning the infamous "Aluminium Wars" in which he gained control of the fantastically lucrative ex-Soviet Aluminium smelting industry after a literal armed conflict between oligarchs, where inquisitive journalists and uppity Trade Unionists ended up in the foundations of bridges.

As Harry Redknapp once said, many football fans would cheer Adolf Hitler if he promised to buy them the Champions League.

Bournemouth did it by accumulating eye-watering debt of £32m in order to allow them a wages to turnover ratio considerably over 200% the year they got promoted.

Of course that's peanuts for a modern EPL club, so Demin's gamble was handsomely rewarded, but what if it had failed? Would he have stuck around?

They were getting gates of 200 five years ago. I wonder how many of their ‘fans’ even knew where the ground was back then. It’s all about sustainability and substance for me. If Salford’s owners decide tomorrow they don’t want to play anymore they wouldn’t see the season through. The reason my club have survived 2 admins in a decade is because there is substance there. Generations of families who are invested and who care and can drive forward movements to save something held very deeply to their hearts and their heritage. Compare that to people who started casually watching a club 5 years ago because a few celebrities put a bit of money in. The one I always go back is Rushden and Diamonds. A shallow ego trip that went bust soon after the money dried up.

The fair play rules are so wonderful in the championship that you’re allowed to spend 100% of your turnover on wages alone.

That’s very levelling and very fair play obviously.

Not much to stop him leaving them with crippling debt and a points deduction, they've shown crowds mean nothing though if your owner has the resources and some clever accountants.

I would also say it’s quite telling that we haven’t had a single Salford fan on this forum today. Probably because they don’t exist.

The rota has them on FC United duties today, Man Utd for Sunday. Could be Monday before they become self righteous about Salford.
