That's the third one this year. I presume its because they pay their bills late rather than anything more worrying for them. Don't Southend do the same?

Hardly surprising when you only get 2200 for a home game.

Thought we were cutting our cloth accordingly this season? Oh wait, then we sign James Vaughan and Ismail Miller.. won't be on peanuts. When we average around 3,200 home fans we simply cannot sustain this level of spending.

Why is Stewart Day in such a rush to get to the Championship as if it's going to dissapear in a couple of years. We should be slowly growing the club from the inside out, rather than chucking money at it. It would be much more satisfying performing well on the pitch when it doesn't put the future of the club at risk.. who knows.. nobody knows the extent of Days wealth.

Can Bury ever realistically go any further than this level? Given where you are geographically and the new generations of fans only believing that football was invented in 1992 surely you are up against it from the get go? Haven't your attendances always been around 2-4k? What kind of crowds would you get in the Championship? I know the jump in money is vast from League 1 to Championship but surely that's not feasible.

I'm not knocking the ambition of your club, Bournemouth gambled recently and it paid off handsomely but it does sound like your chairman is really running your club close to the financial abyss.

It could happen but the way we're going about it it'll never happen. All Bury fans want is a sustainable club. I'm more than happy to stay in this league and create our own talent. It's a recipie for disaster and if we move stadium I think it will kill us once and for all.

It isn't a complete non starter. Bury isn't that small, the borough has a population of 187,000 as of a few years ago and that is growing. We averaged 6,200 last time we were in the Champ in 98ish, obviously that includes away followings. We have shown in the past that a potential fanbase is there of sorts, in the last decade we've had quite a few 7-8k plus crowds for big games. So the town do turn out for their club from time to time but only when we are doing well... that's the issue. We need to spend money to perform well.. that inturn puts the future of the club at risk.

Bottom line is that currently we are spending more than we can afford. Oldham, Rochdale etc all have the same issues as we do, and it's no coincidence.

I mean you look at Burnley etc, town is around the same size as Bury, yet because they are just out of reach of the Manchester plague they pull crowds of 16/17k... could that be us? Probably not but if we were somewhere else in the country a town of our size could pull 8-10k.

Other clubs are so lucky with their location, other clubs like Barnet and Leyton Orient also have the same issues as us.

Our downfall will be the Manchester fans in the town (Bury is NOT in Manchester despite what they like to imagine) who treat THEIR local club with such distain, although blame also has to lie with former boards non attempts to stop this happening. In many ways the club is still ran by old traditionalists with no modern business sense i.e. commercial and marketing department. This results in the club becoming unfashionable, behind the times.

Side note: the fact that Manchester City still struggle to fill their ground despite being Champions league regulars and PL title winners shows what we are up against.

Same for a lot of clubs though, we struggle against Stoke for one (always historically going to be the bigger pull due to having the name of the city) and we've generally struggled financially without ever really overspending. (Until Smurf to a degree!)

It's not a case of spending what they can afford. It is monies deducted from staff wages and not passed on to HMRC. When an individual is late paying his tax, his debt starts to accrue interest. A short period after, penalties are applied which are also open to interest charges. I would think that corporates are subject to a similar regime so to take this path 4 times in a year doesn't seem to make economic sense.
