Yes it is, odd though, would have thought on hot days it wouldn't help with sweat loss. Seen several sorts, we used to have just a strap round the chest, some are incorporated into the shirts which seem a better bet though be a bugger of a fine for the kitman if he forgets to take them out pre wash

Wonder if they really are any use though, I mean Brodie or Parkin takes around 50 steps a game and sticks it in, and then others run 15 km and dont look like doing anything at all,. What can any stats make of that?

Yeah, last season we had what looked like little boxes on the upper back at the base of the neck. I always though they looked a bit cumbersome. The vest style looks a bit more comfortable, but I'd still rather just be wearing a shirt if it was me! I'd be interested in the benefits too. I wonder if they can track heartrate data live to monitor player fatigue during the game?

Based on looking at the highlights Halls challenge for the red card was definitely no worse than the one on Danny Rowe just before you scored the first goal. I agree by that point it didnt change the game as I don't think we were ever going to score, but we may appeal. The referee was poor for both sides, one of those overly officious ones (someone mentioned it was his first game at this level) who wanted the game to be about him; many unnecssary bookings, inability to play advantage, etc. Will see him in the Premier League before too long...
Only seen the highlights, with the camera on the other side of the pitch admittedly, but it doesn't look that bad a challenge, in fact from the highlights it looks like he plays the ball. Not surprised to see Halls lose his head though, not got the longest fuse when we're getting hammered.

From my viewpoint Hall was somewhat reckless when he went through Gomis. Not surprised the ref pulled his card out so quickly. Collins could have been in more trouble (although he was the last to touch the ball before his challenge)

I wasnt sure why Tubbs was wearing a bra though :emb:

york-city-home_news_block.jpg
My guess is that Jon Parkin (aka'Tubbster') forgot to take his bra with him when he left and when Matt Tubbs saw it on the peg marked 'Tubbster' he presumed it was his to wear.......?

P.s Master D and Sparrow please accept my apologies and try not to get too angry for me STILL posting in the non league section....... :animatedf:

Tubbster? Not quite sure, but are you actually trying to imply that THE BEAST is slightly over weight? Scandalous.

Bra or no bra, he's virtually guaranteed to score against you this season as usual.

Thankfully in the only game that mattered he decided to miss an open goal so it all worked out well in the end........

That sounds about right for Halls - reckless/careless/thoughtless/stupid - but not malicious.

I'd be shocked if any challenge like that was malicious, and thus I think it should always be the action that's punished as refs can't read minds

Late post on here as stayed on Wirral after the game. A decent game of football, where Rovers failed to convert their chances for a comfortable lead and got a wake-up call with a well-taken goal by the visitors after dispossessing a jaded Steve Jennings in the middle of the park. McNulty's volley from a corner got the winner, but the last 20 minutes were fairly even with Rovers conceding possession far too readily. Brabin's reluctance to use the subs despite a number of players looking worn out didn't come back to haunt him here, but he needs to learn.

Credit to Maidstone, who came to play football, which makes a pleasant change after some of the touring thugs seen at Prenton Park last season. The guy who got the goal, Flisher had a decent game, Worgan made some good saves and nobody in the Stones xi looked out of their depth. Great support from the visiting fans, those in the Fan Zone before the game seemed good lads.

I'd also echo Renemart's praise of the referee, Mr Backhouse. The game was a good-natured contest and didn't need a heavy hand to control it, but that hasn't stopped others from seeking the lime-light. Credit to him for the low-key, calm officiating.

Reports after the game make interesting reading:

Brodie (York) was described as the pantomime villain who has had more clubs than a Neanderthal.

Tubbs apparently took off his shirt in celebrating his first league goal for FGR and in response to the York fans taunting him about his fitness. The report said he wanted to show them his fit and muscular body.
I know we all groaned when he saw him without his shirt, knowing it was an automatic yellow card. But he didn't seem to care and was having a laugh and joke with referee when they both raced back to centre circle.

FGR players have been wearing these 'bras' for a while now, certainly from the start of last season. Obviously the data it sends to backroom boys must be considered important.

Its all the rage...and if you are a proper club, you would have them to.

Football is going as mad as the rest of the world, who is interested that some headless chicken has covered 8000 metres in midfield but achieved nothing the only stat that matters is goals scored, look at poor old johnny margetts at our place hounded out cos of his work rate yet he scores goals, liniker and greaves didnt run around like fools but they used the saved energy to be quicker then their marker.

Exactly. All these possession stats/successful passes/heat maps/distance covered etc have far too much emphasis placed on them. At the end of the day, it's about scoring more goals then the oppo, nothing else.

If you're a fat bastard who goal hangs all game without hardly moving or passing to a team mate, but you score the winner, you're a valuable player regardless of what the stats say.

Or if you're a playmaker who spends all game attempting to thread ambitious through balls, of which only 2 or 3 come off but put people in, your passing stats will on paper look poor next to someone who does nothing but pass sideways all game. Again the stats will say they are the more valuable player, which again would be bollocks.

The fact that you now see FM stats given credence as official Scouting Ratings by Sky Sports shows how far down the statistical analysis route football has gone. It's ridiculous.

They're trying to turn real football into Championship Manager.

If CM/FM were realistic this country would have no problem finding enough quality English managers/coaches, as millions have shown their amazing managerial talent by winning the Champions League with Conference teams.

I would take Jon Parkin over Reece Styche, Styche does loads of running and has a great work rate but just isn't a good striker, Parkin is a proven goalscorer.

I don't think the data is for a simple 'player 1 vs player 2' comparison. It's more about checking fitness progress, improvements in power and pace, analysing set piece movement etc. There is a lot more to it than just logging how far someone ran.

But it is often used as a tool when it comes to deciding which player to sign. Which gets you the statistically better player, but doesn't necessarily guarantee you actually sign the more useful one.

Didn't take you long to see just how frustrating Rooney is.

Too deep holding up play? Trys impossible balls? Corners not beating the first man?
What about a less than 50% conversion rate with penalties.

I am and I will be more confident if DSY and Yakubu are back for it which sounds a possibility. Big weekend for us, away at York and home to Chester. Four points from that would be a decent return.

We'll see.

Btw who is that dodgy-looking character on your avatar
