Lewisham is a very diverse borough but on the other hand Millwall have managed to attract some new support from the communities that have settled in Lewisham. The fanbases of the lower division London clubs are still pretty white but I have noticed a change at Barnet in the past few years and I think the same is true of the other small London clubs. Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea actually have a pretty diverse mixture of people in their crowds on matchday nowadays.

Yeah, the same process has taken place at Bramall Lane, the Blades were at the forefront of the anti-racism camapaign over the years " Lets kick Racism out of Football" and its paying dividends with local communities following the club.

Surely one of the strong selling points of English culture is the strength in depth of its football clubs, the 92 fully professional league system, which probably extends to Non-League clubs, is the envy of the Football World, no one else has anything like it. I wasn't aware of the current situation before now, if Millwall fans need our support we should've give it to them.
Somebody has to resist this all powerful beast, " Free Market Capitalism"

Fair enough but it is a typical social democratic centre-left/centrist thing to do. Most London liberals couldn't give a damn about working-class football supporters with views that get you viewed as an undesirable. A historic football ground is collateral damage for these bastards.

I think/hope Millwall is the wrong club to mess with.

No it isn't.
Anyway, there's nothing remotely centre-left about them, they're Blairites and it's been the liberal-left Guardian who has brought this to wider attention.
In our case, Barnet council were supportive when a Lab/Lib-Dem administration was in charge and unremittingly hostile with a Tory administration.

Anyone who you don't like in Labour must be a Blairite then ffs, you've no idea what their political persuasion is other than they're somewhere on the left.

What the council's doing to Millwall seems pretty Thatcherite tbh. And Blair was centre right no?

Have Millwall put an "asset of community value" order on the stadium? We did it at Oxford a few years ago, and were the first club in the country to do so. It has stopped the stadium owner from putting housing on the stadium car parks, or selling/developing the site without giving us (our supporters trust OxVox) first option, and it holds the whole process up by six months. It's not 100% failsafe, but it makes their lives fucking difficult, which is why Kassam (stadium owner) fought it in the High Court. He lost.

If Millwall lose this, we play at the New Den in what would be the last ever game there at the end of this season. That will be an "interesting" day out for sure…………..

Not funny Vic :told:. As a lot of other posters have said, they might not like 'Wall, but they will defend their right to play in their manor.

I personally have no problem with them, and I sincerely hope they get through this. Nothing like going to the Den to set the pulse racing at any rate :)

This is really good news. My dad's a peckham boy, and he took me to the old den (where he celebrated VE day) as a kid a few times.

Belated congrats to Millwall, wonderful news. But, stay vigilant, those assorted tossers* at the council and their, err, associates, still need exposing and cutting down, as Bobbin alludes to above. I'm sure AMS(?) is still on the case though.

* tempted to use a different adjective but don't want to get this place closed down
