I am amazed they found 5 teams for us that can be considered as rivals.
One things for sure it ain't port Vale. I don't thing either set of fans give a shit either way.
Reality is, we have no rivals. We think it's Derby but it's not.
Perhaps it will be stoke next year.

We only really have Colchester. Orient is fair enough as second but it's a bit of a divisional rivalry, both teams don't really care about each other unless we're both in the same division.

Who have they surveyed anyway, when was this done? Gillingham, Ipswich and Millwall as our others?!? Gillingham and Ipswich have been put there purely due to location, we have no rivalry with them whatsoever. Same goes for Millwall.
I genuinely would not have a clue as to other 'rivals' for Southend, maybe we can strike something up along seaside themes with Brighton, Blackpool and Bournemouth.

Ours should be those in that order but if you ask 90% of our fan base then it would be Sheff Wednesday for certain.

Port Vale, Crewe and West Brom?! Who the f**k made up that list.

I would say it's Wrexham, Walsall and then perhaps throw in Telford as a local one

In fairness I do have a strong dislike for Southend if it helps? :hypo:

Judging by Millwall being the top answer I'd imagine this was asked of a younger generation, although I've genuinely no idea how nearly a third of people asked picked Colchester. Fulham seems an obvious one to have been missed due to bad feeling in the 90s, but we haven't played each other for the best part of 20 years now. Swindon will always get dragged up in these things but I haven't got anything positive or negative to say about them, they're just another club.

What I want to know is - who are the 11% of Sunderland fans who don't see Newcastle as a rival?!

Coventry resurgence in 3rd place, it's 1977 all over again.

Ours makes sense. Mags, Boro and Leeds are the evergreens of our lists due to geographical reasons so I suppose the remaining 2 will be whoever fans generally dislike at the time in whatever division we're in.

The 11% of Sunderland fans asked who don't see Newcastle as a rivalry is an odd one.

We only have one real rival and that's scum.

Bournemouth are pretty much the opposite and Brighton is a media creation because we're both on the south coast. Millwall is a feisty affair but their rivals are all local to them. Sunderland is just a big competitor in this league and we've played 5 times this year.

What about Plymouth? I live in Southsea, not far from the ground and it gets very tasty round here when they are in town. Pretty sure it's kicked off the last few occasions anyway, normally loads of old bill about.

Swindon is most definitely a fierce rivalry, Reading is a rivalry, although not a recently revisited one. There is a bit of something with Luton but nothing major or vaguely close to Swindon and Reading.

Northampton is a normal game that is local which briefly picked up a little only because of Chris Wilder and battling for the L2 title. Wycombe is just a normal game that is local. If these are rivalries then so is Millwall and any club that is close like Pompey, Bristol Rovers, Southampton etc and they simply aren't rivals in the way this is suggesting.

A trip to the Manor Ground was probably as good as it got for us in terms of a rivalry. Used to be a cracking and hostile atmosphere. Some good memories for us there, and some not so good... I hate the Kassam, just as much as you probably hate the Madejski. The Manor and Elm Park were a different kettle of fish.

Plymouth fans were in a small minority to help Pompey fans and our trust when we were in danger of folding, they held a fan's day to help us. For that I have a lot of time for them.

The media, as with Brighton, like to play up the (Dockyard) Derby thing. There was a rivalry as we challenged for promotion in div four and it wasn't helped by the animosity between the 2 managers. Fair to say the media doesn't help in the run up to these games. Spoken with a fair few visiting Plymouth fans and they never seemed to get the derby talk either. Now we're in div 3 Sunderland seem to have replaced them as a part time rivalry.

Agree regarding our fixture. Our paths have crossed due to being in similar circumstances not least the conference years but there is no traditional rivalry just a mutual dislike which could so easily disappear should we not play eachother for a few years. Same applies to Cambridge. Rivalry could well depend on when you watched most of your football. All Luton fans will say Watford are our traditional rivals but I remember a much more intense rivalry with QPR who we play again this season. Milton Keynes is certainly not on our list, we've hardly played them but there is a hatred for all they stand for, as well as their attempt to relocate our club to their city pre Wimbledon. We've had lively fixtures with many clubs over the years not least Milwall and even Arsenal during the 80s. Don't think their fans or ours would class it as a rivalry though.

If it's about who we hate, it definitely should not be in that order.
Wednesday would be way out in front as the most hated.

Chesterfield would be next because we just couldn't beat them for years.

In the 80s and 90s Barnsley matches were interesting but not so much any more.

Doncaster will figure now due to being in the same division but we just don't hate them as much as they hate us.

Sheff Utd have always been supportive of us when we were struggling, so most of our fans are ok with them unless we are playing one another.

Everybody hates Leeds.

Grimsby don't see us as a rival, they see Hull, the Sheffield clubs, Scunny and Doncaster ahead of us.
We certainly do, afterall we were formed to stop them winning county cup every season, back in the days when county cups were the no.2 trophy to win lol!

My top 5 bearing in mind I'm an old git lol would be

1, Grimsby
2, Scunthorpe
3, Notts County
4, Hull
5, Doncaster

The likes of Peterborough, Boston, Cambridge and Northampton would be up there too.
Forest Green see us as a rival due to the national league title run in, as due our local media, very odd indeed.

I don't think non-league clubs are considered here. I suspect we'd make Tranmere's 5 and Stockport, Chesterfield and Notts County would make a list or 2.

Since no one asked, I'd say ours goes something like:

1. Chester
2. Shrewsbury
3. Newport
4. Tranmere
5. Crewe

We used to have a fair bit of beef with Cardiff but due to divisional differences, they tend to just feel sorry for us nowadays (or at least those who I've spoken with on Wales aways do).

To be honest, unless you grew up in the Martin O’Neill years when the Col U rivalry was at its peak then it’s hard to think that we have any proper rivalries at all.

Proper rivalries are long standing ones established over years, and you can’t just contrive them.

Other than the bad blood between us and Wimbledon the others are purely geographical, although Peterborough have moved up the list a bit purely because of that 4-0 tonking last weekend.

I thought I might take this thread seriously, but then I read it through and realised the person who started it is a poundshop wum. With a big chip on his shoulder.

We don’t have any rivals, so erm, yeah.

I think those that pointed out it could be 'most hated' rather than 'biggest rival' might have a point.

Either way ours is pretty accurate: 1. AFC Wimbledon 2. Northampton 3. Peterborough 4. Luton 5. Wycombe - although I'd swap Posh and Luton around, and maybe swap Wycombe for Swindon.
I’d say posh has to be higher because of the history of the fixture. For years they were our main rivalry as we didn’t play AFC.

In terms of my personal list I’d go
1: AFC
2: Posh
3: Northampton
4: Luton
5: Swindon

1. Scunny
2. Grimsby
3. Mansfield
4. Boston
5. Posh

As far as I'm aware there's only two non-league sides that can even muster a mild dislike of us. Must try harder.

I'd disagree about Orient I think there is a pretty strong rivalry there tbh. There aren't really any other rivalries. Been a through run-ins with Charlton in recent years so potentially one there. Same as Joe for us I don't really like Gillingham I see us as better than them as I'm sure they do for us when in reality we're pretty much identical clubs.

We are, which is why I think we don't really love each other too much.

We're better though, obviously. Bit like two bald blokes fighting over a comb though.

Really?

I know of an incident last season that has resulted in a few banning orders but can't think of anything else?
