The re-housing effort is under way as 70 apartments in a luxury block, where prices usually start at £1.5m, have been procured by the government.
#dayofrage
All those conservatives who went absolutely fucking mental at this dangerous, communist idea will be seething.

^ I think the "dangerous communist idea" that ruffled a few feathers was the government requisitioning private property for the re-housing effort rather than procuring it. But hey... just semantics, right?

huh, maybe

Here's my hot take though:

Labour lost the election but they appear to be in power.

They've lost on pretty much every manifesto pledge, haven't they? How far back do you have to go for a government that was unwilling/unable to push legislation for more than two years?

Wait 'til you hear about CPO's, Scumbag. Or is the part that's dangerously communist the acquiring of rich people's investments to provide homes for poor people, rather than vice versa?

At least central government have something to work from, and it suggests that the individual councils contributing to that figure have some handle on the situation.

Residents from Tower block in Camden evacuated as the fire brigade can not ensure their safety.

I'd probably just hide under my bed and ignore the knocks.

Cladding from 95 buildings across 32 local authorities in England have failed safety tests, so BBC news is reporting right now.

That fucking prick in the council who threatened legal action against residents who complained about health and safety violations, if he doesn't get prosecuted someone should do him.

A bit like a certain MP (look it up) who voted in 2005 against a government proposal to make it law that that all tower blocks should be fitted with sprinklers, the same person who critisizes the government for not installing sprinklers in the tower block that killed so many people,it's nothing to do with Corbyn though it's always the government's fault even though he opposed safety laws that could have saved many more lives.

Yeah the original tweet claiming that was deleted. Not sure why Mowgli is trying to defend the idiot at the council anyway.

Murdoch is a prick and i don't believe what his papers print just as i don't believe what The Mirror and The Guardian print. I'm lucky enough to be able to keep an open mind on anything that matters to me so i can make my mind up without being influenced by some arsehole who owns a newspaper just to promote his or her own views.

It goes international

The German city of Wuppertal is to evacuate a flat black housing 72 residents, because of exterior insulation similar to Grenfell Tower

If that's the case you'll be able to link to the vote in question. It's not difficult - several websites have extensive records of how MPs have voted. One would obviously check that out before they post... wouldn't they?!

Best part of that awful post is the 'look it up'. Make a spurious, unevidenced statement then shift the burden of proof. Brilliant, mowgli could be a Fox News presenter.

Bit of an update on this today
They reckon 255 survived the fire. 80 dead is the current figure they're working from. A criminal investigation gets underway working on the basis of manslaughter of those 80 individuals.

The most concerning part of that story is Scotland Yard being involved.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Technically it's a public order offense.

None of them are going to be chucked into the clink, but perhaps a good reminder to people to not be such a c***?

The video shows that people can be dumb, insensitive and joke about things in poor taste. We knew that already. There are approx. 7 billion of us scuttling around on this godforsaken planet and none of us are perfect. Some amount of human stupidity is inevitable; and, all things considered, stuff like this is at the less harmful end of the scale.

The criminalisation of upsetting jokes, however, is not inevitable. That doesn’t need to be a thing. It is a thing only because people in positions of power and influence (elected parliamentarians, judicial activists, etc.) have passed ill-thought-out laws that have helped to make it a thing. The Public Order Act was not passed to cover things like this, but it’s so badly written and out of date that it’s routinely misused by people who want the State to step in and play a weird sort of auxiliary parent role every time someone upsets their feelings.

15-20 years ago these bonfire numpties would have been condemned in the public arena* but it would have been thought ludicrous for the Police to get involved. If we must indulge in State of the Nation type fretting, we should probably start there. Or, better still, focus on problems that clearly are matters for criminal law – e.g. the rise in fatal stabbings and shootings – even if that lends itself less well to virtue signalling and cheap grandstanding.

*Assuming it had been publicised widely, which in the age before social media it probably wouldn't have been.
