Waterfall and Ogbu come in for the injured Öhman and Rose respectively.

Don’t think today will be a draw, FGR will out-football is or we will out-muscle them.
I'd take a draw, but yeah this will be a good test of how cloggery we are. Is there anyway to listen to this outside of the Radio Humberside area and not with iFollow?

Well this is pretty boring. FGR with some very slick passing play amongst the back 4 and keeper, before getting bored of us not losing our defensive positioning and hoofing it long and out.

Us just cutting out the middle men and sending it long. We've probably had the best chances from balls into the box but nothing clear.

For the second home game running our first shot comes on 47 minutes!
Complete non event so far, I don't think either side has brocken sweat.

FGR’s first shot on target after 75 mins gives them the lead.
They are Head and Shoulders luckier than us. ;)

Second half same as first pretty poor. This time though FGR against the wind and realising they are not kicking it out of play everytime.

One cross poorly cleared lands at the subs feet in the box with an easy strike on goal and they finally hit it on target.

Had 0-0 all over it, neither side deserving to win really. Poor to watch.

Unfortunate as it sounds like we were relatively solid at the back for most of the game. We still need a creative spark or two going forward and it showed today. At least we weren't absolutely battered, the gap is closing one way or another.

Another game, another win v Grimsby. Just seems inevitable really. :woo:

Always in control, knew we just had to stay patient, not gift them anything and we'd win it.

Nice to see Coops psyched Hanson out by calling him the best headerer in the football league......Grimsby tough side to beat, will do ok I think. Need a bit more creativity though. Bit like us tbf.

Yep you've almost got half as many as we have against you now, congratulations!

Odd tactics from both sides, both standing off, a repeat of the Oldham game.

Mondal the right player in the right place for the goal. Grimsby missed two guilt edge chances that both should have been in!

No kind of spectacle to watch but very happy with the points.

It's because teams are scared shitless by the prospect of trying to go head t0 head with us, if they try and get tight we'll pass it round them and run riot. Probably.

xG tells a different story to what’s been said on the forums. Can’t say I’m not disappointed with defeat but the fact that FGR have beaten us with a half chance leaves me feeling more optimistic.

Glad that it’s brought a few of our fans back to Earth, they were getting ideas above their station.

I thought we were shite, one dimensional (hoof it or long throw it into the box) and we tried to 'bully' FGR and it didn't work.

I also didn't think FGR had the nous to break down our defence but the one time they did, they scored.

Stopping away supporters going into your club bar and then putting us in an open terrace along one side. Not such a friendly place anymore. said I wasn't going there again last season, well that is the last time for definite.

Have to laugh at Grimsby fans on the fishy moaning about the poor spectacle, it was a poor spectacle because your team set up to make it one. We would have been quite happy for it to have been a more open, attacking free flowing game. I really hope at some point a team comes here and comes out and really attacks us, would love to see how our attacking play looks when we've got more space and don't have to keep passing sideways in front of an opposition parked behind the ball..

Why would we come and allow you to play free flowing attacking football?

Our game this season is to play direct football which is what we did, we were quite happy to let you play it around amongst your back 4 and not go anywhere and it worked perfectly in the first half.

You had one half chance all game and took it, poor defending from us. We had a couple of half chances on another day one might have gone in. It was a boring game to watch but if we won who cares?

Not sure how you can complain we didn't play to your strengths why would the opposition do that???

I'm not complaining about the spectacle though. I have no problem with you playing that way, it will get you results, I just don't get why some of your fans are complaining that it was poor entertainment as if both teams were to blame, when it was only down to how you set up. You came to stop us playing, not the other way round. Fair play it nearly worked, and if it had you'd have deserved it for executing your game plan well.

I quite enjoyed it.

As GTFCfish says you made the mistake of reading the fishy, even I rarely read it anymore. If we win a game we're pissing this tinpot league, if we lost Jolley should be sacked and were getting relegated.

We lost today, it was poor viewing because we let you pass it about at the back and stopped you going forward and when we had the ball we lumped it up. Hoofball is always going to be poor viewing unless we win usually, though the Morecambe game was poor viewing but we won, and the Bradford game was entertaining and we only drew. Neither side deserved to win today, and either side could have nicked it 1-0 just happened to be you today.

We move onto the next game and still confident we will finish just inside top half and avoid a relegation battle. We are much better than last season.

Grimsby having to defend their hoofball tactics. Tiring, isn't it?

Meanwhile we're sat on top of L1 and playing liquid football. Funny how quickly things change.

I think enough of us knew that was the way we were setting up this season, it’s just such a contrast to FGR’s ‘total football’. Least we can accept that’s what we’re doing unlike a number of Imps when they were doing it.

Must admit, thought you’d do OK this season but wasn’t convinced by several of your first testers but your midfield is outstanding for that level. Would be interested to see what would happen should you get any injuries but it doesn’t happen!

A lot of Lincoln fans are in denial when it comes to receiving any sort of criticism, I'll give you that. But the Cowleys change our style to what division we're in, hence the frustration at being labelled long-ball thugs last season when we weren't, not compared to our National League winning days anyway.

We had players who can head and kick it because you quite simply have to do that to be successful in League Two. But we also had Jason Shackell, Lee Frecklington, Danny Rowe, Harry Anderson, Bruno Andrade etc, players who aren't exactly going to thrive in a side that launches it forward every time we get the ball. And this season we've brought in Jorge Grant, Jack Payne, Tyler Walker etc, another indication we'll be playing more stuff on the deck/counter.

As for Grimsby, I think Jolley's doing the right thing, but it's all about finding the right balance. It's unrealistic to expect a side to go from being pleasing on the eye to direct/long ball, especially on the back of just one transfer window. Will take time, although it helps having a bastard like Hanson who will win the majority of his headers.

I think it was more the crossover season when you made the playoffs when Rhead was still the focal point that certain fans had a chip on their shoulder and obviously, that was pretty successful as you finished 7th. We seem to be trying to replicate that with similar sorts of players and style but we now need to start scoring goals. Been a problem ever since Bignot left and once we’ve got that sorted, we’ll be alright because even last season we were pretty defensively sound.

Back to our game, pretty disappointed with our style to be honest. Never liked hoof-ball and never will.

Also, if there were 100 seats sold (looked fairly full to me) how come the away support was only 283, surely we had more than 183 standing along the length of the pitch?

Crowd announced never looks right to me tbh.

When the announcer said "Welcome to the National League" just before kick-off I wondered if I had been transported back in time...but apparently that was a Football League game this afternoon, on that showing I think it is overrated.

I also thought our 'robust approach' played into your hands, with some of your lads hitting the ground before we'd even kicked them (and Matt Green seemed to be really up for a knock)!

Ref loved it and the lines person with the yellow flag was completely out of his depth, not too sure he knew the rules of the game.

No complaints about the result, we didn't deserve a point with our tactics and 'antics'.

To continue with my moaning: very unsporting to switch the sprinklers on our half of the pitch during the pre-match warm up. Didn't switch on the ones where your lads were.
