I thought Sunderland looked a decent side, played much better than Wednersday, Reading, Cardiff, Barnsley and Millwall at Deepdale anyway but obviously there was the Grayson factor.

O'Shea, Cattermole, N'Dong, McGeady, Honeyman, Vaughan... decent players at this level.

If they can get a couple of wins next month and kick on then i think they could trouble the top half.
So were Elokobi, Edwards, Jarvis, Kightly, Ebanks-Blake, Johnson, Doyle, Ward, Berra and O'Hara in 2012-13...

Struggling to see us beating anyone at the moment. Wonder how long the new owners are going to put up with it.
Given how much they have invested in the team this season, I cannot imagine too long. I do not think he should be too close to the sack yet, but needs to shake things up as it is clear his tactics are not working. He cannot afford to do an Adkins and blindly trust his failing system. I am the point now where I think it is more likely he will be sacked before Christmas, than remain our manager.

His comments after the last couple of games had hardly been promising for his future, and show his inexperience.
"If you are negative, why do you need to come to the stadium?" - And now the fans are staying away. I think that was our lowest Saturday home attendance in 13 years (admittedly being on TV would not have helped)

"If the club feels they can do better with somebody else then they need to make that decision" - Have to admit I don't know the context in the interview, but does seem like a very arrogant thing to say.

To be fair Matt Jarvis went to West Ham when we went down from the Prem so can't blame him.

Doyle and Elokobi are legends so you can't blame them. Kightly was permanently injured so that excludes him (he also moved to Stoke at the same time Jarvis left). Ward and Berra were shit I'll give you that.

Oh.. Jamie O'Hara was too busy cheating on his missus and Roger Johnson was too pissed up to even turn up to training so you can't blame them either. Footballers have priorites too ya'know.

Easier just to blame Dean Saunders.

If we go down, which me might, we won't get cut adrift imo. We have a bad run then we come good again to stay in touch. I still
Think we could stay up,especially when we get our record signing back at xmas from
Injury.
I think Sunderland will drop again. They have a vortex of depresssion hanging over the club which is tough to shake.
If they sack Grayson I think they could drop. Keep him and they’ll comfortably stay up. I don’t think you’ll get cut adrift but I don’t think you’ve got the quality you had last season. You need another January window like last year to have a chance imo.

Grayson isn't a clown like Saunders though.

We're beginning to put a run together, still only one win but we aren't losing, and are unlucky not to have won quite a few.

Lots of injuries over the past couple of games, hopefully won't derail us too much. New aim now is just to stay up. Anything else is gravy!

Should have easily beaten us on Saturday so you have as much chance as we do right now.

We really need to decide what our best formation/team is and quickly. Also not playing Howson/ Shotton would be part of my plan moving forward.

Brentford certainly didn't deserve to lose to us in the 1st match and from what I hear didn't deserve to lose at hillsborough too.

I don't think Brentford deserved to lose or draw most of their games, but they only seem to score 1 out of 100 chances. You can play the most attractive football around, but if it's not clinical then it's all for nothing.

Yep. This.

Think we've also had some bad luck, teams have been super clinical against us, but we are making it hard on ourselves.

Should be fine, but can't ever be happy and safe till it's all mathematically done

Luckily for us the bottom 3 teams are poor, though I expect Sunderland to have enough to stay up.

We're beyond dreadful without playing a striker currently. We've only started a striker in 3 games this season. Thankfully Yann Kermorgant could be back next week.

We managed 86 points last season.. we're currently on course for 46 points. Whilst also having one of the highest net-spends in the league. Fantastic.

You were awful I thought today, probably the worst team I've seen so far after Sunderland.

Agreed. Apart from the final 5 minutes we were utter crap. Scoreline flatters us. Usual baffling team and tactics from Stam. Not sure how much longer Stam will be in charge.

Last season he often made baffling team selections, but they worked. Every week it is looking more and more like last season was a fluke. Today he decided to change-up our defence from last week, that had done so well. Last season that probably would have worked, this season not so.

The severe lack of forwards is obviously a problem. Though Stam was not selecting Bodvarsson when he was fit, despite us looking much better with him in the team on most occasions.

At this point he is only still in the job because of last season. This is our second worst start to a season in 30 years, with the worst having the caveat that we were in the Prem. Nigel Adkins and Brendan Rodgers got sacked for doing better, despite having less funds to spend.

Embarrassing that we were two penalty kicks off the Prem last season, have spent £10m+ on improving the team, and we're sat in 20th and playing like we're 20th (or worse).

I'm not calling for him to be sacked, but I would be honestly surprised if he survives until Christmas.

I'm disappointed for you guys and totally baffled. Deserved 3rd place last season and like a few inches from the Premier League. You'd think that surely Stam can't go from those heroics to being a poor manager in such a short space of time.

Or maybe he's one of these one season wonder managers, like Owen Coyle, Gianfranco Zola etc

I thought Reading were shit last season to be honest, amazed me they finished 3rd. Looks like their luck has finally run out.

A shit team doesn't pick up 86 points. I know last season was a poor quality league, but we still managed to be consistently good. When we were bad, we very bad - but most of the time we were good.

We had the best home record in the league last season. We took the lead in 29 games last season - Won 27, Drew 1. So we knew how to hold on and see a game out.

In 3 games and over 300 minutes of football against Huddersfield we were only separated by one penalty shootout kick. Here we are now in 20th in the Championship, and they are beating Man Utd and holding their own in the Prem. We also beat Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham multiple times last season, who were the other playoff teams.

The simple answer to how we are so bad is that teams have worked out a way to play against us (high press as soon as we get into the oppositions half) as we do not have the quality of players to pass through an organised defence. With our only method of playing being to pass it about. Our lack of a striker means we cannot take the 'route one' option as we ended up using the end of last season when we were starting to be found out. Stam has a good Plan A, but seemingly no Plan B.

This season is reminding me every bit of Brendan Rodger's season where we were playing shit passing football that was not threatening the opposition in the slightest. He was sacked in December with us 22nd in the league, we brought in a manager (Brian McDermott) who played a counter-attacking style of play which suited our players strengths and we went on to finish 10th.

Sunderland were terrible today, despite scoring 3 goals. If they play like that every game, they’ll get a few results here and there but not enough to get out of trouble.

You know you're in for a long season when Bodvarsson makes your team look better.

Ignore what the Wolves fans said last season - he's a good player, just not necessarily a goalscorer. Depends if you want your striker to be a goalscorer or more than that. I've been happy with his contribution as he brings others into play which is what we need. He's only supposed to be our back-up striker, as Kermorgant should be finally back next week.

Still averaging a goal every 200 minutes for us, and was Iceland's key player over the last international break (3 assists in 2 games).

I'd just like to reserve my seat in the Circle.

Typically, we don't appear in this thread until after the early season euphoria wears off (also known as "September"), but then we flirt with this thread, watching season-ticket holders from Brum, Bristol City and (usually) Huddersfield discuss pies, baps and favourite Hovis advert.

Going down in May 2018 will be Barnsley, Bolton and that blonde girl off Brazzers.

No spare seat for Doriva, can he take your reserved chair you really won't be needing it. Mind I can't Doriva finding much need for it either.

You said to ignore what Wolves fans said about him, what did we say that was incorrect?

You said he was worse than Joe Mason for starters..

Hardly a ringing endorsement

Mason scored more than Bodvarsson last season whilst being out injured for half of the season.
