Let me tell you right now, Shrewsbury will be right up there in May. You don’t win away from home against a team chasing promotion with ten men if you aren’t a bloody good team. Make no mistake about it, they are here to stay and our top two spot is under serious threat because that’s two teams in succession who have come to our place and deserved to win. January window can’t come soon enough.

Sorry i disagree. I think Shrews will fall down to around 8th. I dont think Rotherham are chasing promotion, think they will struggle for a play off berth. Yeah Shrews have a decent first 11 but a season you need a minimum 18-20 good players which i dont think they have. Others have better squads i.e Bradford, Charlton and Blackburn who i think will be more of a challenge.

And what do you know about our squad......my last comment was. Because we have run out to Catch us if you can by the Dave Clark 5 since the 1960's.

I am reasonably confident we will finish in the top 6 anything more will be very much a bonus but we have to enjoy these moments. It is a long time 1989 since we were relegated from the then Championship equivalent.
I think you are only a young guy so will excuse you exuberance of youth seeing Wigan as a big club who are certain to finish in the top 2, that is the mistake Villa made once. The pressure on Wigan is they need to get back to the championship otherwise they may become the unfashionable minnow again that Dave Whelan picked up.

So how do you explain Burton Albion two seasons ago then? The theory that you need a big squad is a complete myth, always has been.

The question is whether Shrewsbury can hold their nerve in a title race with a big team like Wigan. I think Wigan are just such a big team that Shrewsbury might become awestruck and then the superstars will win another big trophy

I think you are right about us, but wrong about Shrewsbury. They showed enough yesterday for me to be convinced they have what it takes. Our own manager believes we are two transfer windows away from being the strong team he wants us to be, and I agree. Shrewsbury however aren't just a decent, well organised team of battlers, I was impressed that at 1-1, having just conceded and with ten men, they put a striker on. The corner was needlessly conceded in the first place, but they took the chance and got the reward. Fair play. They'll still be in the hunt alright.

Whitney somehow still hasn't been sacked. The loss yesterday wasn't his fault as we battered Gills with them not having one real chance (other than us gifting them a goal with a poor mistake from a kid), but to be honest we dominated the game without ever really testing their goalkeeper. We look just dire at the moment and I wouldn't be surprised if we were in the relegation zone in the next game or two. We had 5 academy lads start yesterday and that's all well and good and love watching the lads come from the academy into the first team, but us winning games, actually entertaining the fans, and climbing the table away from the drop is so much more important.

Old enough to have coached along with Brett Angell your very own Joe Riley when he was at Bolton Academy...

Shrewsbury are the best team we’ve played and absolutely ruined us. I know we’ve been bobbins in the main but still. Not quite sure how they’re doing it but they are.

But them beating a very poor team like Rovers does not mean they are definitive promotion candidates?...even an average mid table team like Peterborough hammered you lot 4-1 on your own bog.

Stuffed at home again, check
Red card , check

Yes normal service is resumed. (this may change on Dec 9th, however)

Yep. I must say I've been pretty patient before jumping on the Adams out train but our home performances are absolutely woeful. Same stubborn negative tactics home and away that only work away when teams come on to us. Entertainment is at an all time low and I'm struggling to motivate myself to attend on Tuesday night, especially with our famously dismal Tuesday night home record.

If we don't at least show some form of positivity and initiative to take the game to Northampton on Tuesday (preferably with 2 up front!) then my mind will be firmly set.

The players are still playing for him and giving their all but the style is simply wrong unfortunately.

I've a question for you or any other Wigan fan. Why Doesn't Grigg play over Toney? Has he being injured, or due to form? Grigg's always been a danger at this level, where as Toney...

How have Wigan possibly ruined Toney? He was incredible for us at the end of last season.

He is not at the level that we need/want to be. His level is mid table League One which is probably why he did well for you and we need better than that. I said when we signed him I had my doubts. He failed at Barnsley who had similar expectations to us and who shot up the table once they got rid of him. As for Grigg, my gut feeling is Cook doesn’t fancy him. He likes his frontman with a bit of meat on him and a physical presence which is why I think he plays Toney. Fans won’t accept that any longer though after Saturday.

Like Bambi on ice and all arms and legs, he was one of our own, I was surprised when Newcastle took him from us for a fee (£500k?). He's played 17 minutes for Newcastle and 12 of those was against us in the League Cup.
Good luck to him but I don't see much, if any, improvement from when he was with us.

We finished third last season. Not sure that's exactly mid table.

I’ve not really worded that last statement correctly. But your aims as a club are different to ours. You just hope for promotion, we expect promotion. Ivan Toney is nowhere near good enough to lead the line for a L1 team who will consider any position lower than second this season as a failure. You’ve then got the pressure of playing for a huge club like ourselves compared to little Scunthorpe...

Come on Lance, I know you're reading. :fish:

No one is buying that Wigan fans have any self awareness. You haven't supported a team long enough to develop any.

We're not chasing play-offs, we're abysmal. I'm lumping on a 3-0 Pompey win with around 33% of the crowd being away fans. Jackett is a shrewd experienced manager, it won't take much for him to outfox the clueless one in charge of us.
